When I uploaded this video I haven’t even thought it could get views and comments still even after 1 year of publishing. So I have an urge to write this comment (I should have when publishing this video) that the video was recorder from one pet store in Okinawa, close to our house where we used to live. I have seen lots of pet stores during my life in Japan and I always hated it, I hate the idea of selling the dogs in small “windows” like that. But when I saw this pet store that you can see in the video, I literally started to cry because this one was probably the worst I have ever seen. And the footage of mistreated dogs at the end of the video was sent to me from one rescue dog organization in Okinawa, because I wanted to adopt one of the mistreated dogs. But my fault is generalizing this video to all Japan as I am not 100% sure if this is the case for all the pet stores across the country. I really hope it’s not, but I need to dig deeper into this issue to know for sure. Thank you for understanding!
Exactly. But Japanese people keep visiting the stores and purchasing dogs from there because for them it’s cute and they don’t see behind the door where do the puppies come from. I talked with the puppy mill rescue company in Okinawa and they told me it’s hard to close these stores, local people just need to see the reality and stop purchasing from there..
Shelter dogs are not pure breed and most of them come from the same puppy mills.You wont find certain breeds in a shelter and people always say go to a shelter but they go to breeders.
I really sad for this type of places. But also I want people to understand that this bad situation pet shop is very small number in Japan actually. Most pet shop have been taking care of animals well. In addition, because of a part of unacceptable pet mill&stupid breeders, irresponsible owners who abondon accepted pets easily, most of decent shops have been recieving wrong rumors. Hope those a part of illegal people&shops will be punished more&more. The Animal law in Japan has been becoming stricter than about 10years ago, and the cases decreased so much, it's great sign.
It has to come down to the main issue- people need to realize that by buying these cute puppies they support cruelty on adult dogs - it is the adult breeding dogs in the puppy mills that need to be saved-they are kept in terrible conditions only to breed these puppies so that they can earn money (the last short clip is from the puppy mill). Those are all around Japan, right now in Okinawa there is a group of foreigners who travel all around the island searching for these hidden mills, rescuing the dogs and then post them on Facebook group and their website so that people can adopt. If people stop buying the puppies, the demand will be low, and the breeders will be forced to stop I guess?...
You know is funny how easy it is to make fake news. This is total bs, I been to many pwt stores, the dogs are all kept and fed well, the dogs that become to big for the cages are put on that open one there at the beginning of the video, most of the dogs you see are small breeds, there are no medium or big sized dogs in Japan if there are they were brought from other countries. Plus there’s an area for pet treatment (cutting nails, grooming, shower etc.) one of the Cainz Home close to my apartment has literally a pet spa.

Yes they are probably kept and fed, but the video at the end is not from the pet store, it’s from the puppy mills, where the conditions are usually much worst (at least what I heard and saw from one Animal welfare organisation in Okinawa who rescue these dogs and then offer adoption/Fostering to people living in Okinawa. Many US people from the bases were adopting them. But even just looking at the small dogs in those tiny spaces in the stores seems wrong. At least for someone like me and other people I know who loves dogs🤷🏼♀️

? Don’t understand your comment. These dogs are not for adoption, If I bought one from the store I would be supporting the business. The least I can do right now with toddler and small baby (can’t have a dog right now as I wouldn’t be able to give home much needed time) is spread little awareness.

So many great pets in shelters BUT these shop pets need to be rescued too, not "purchased".

When you buy, you are funding them to continue their cruelty. You are doing the exact opposite of helping dogs if fund these places
I wanted help them but I deadly allergic to animals so I never go to zoo in my whole life
