The original "Nosferatu" back in 1922 was an unauthorized adaptation of "Dracula" that had some plot points, names, and locations changed in order to try to avoid a copyright strike; it didn't work, and "Nosferatu" ended up being the only film that studio ever produced. Also the word "Nosferatu" is just a cool, foreign-sounding word Bram Stoker made up to be used interchangeably with "vampire." The vampire's name is Count Orlok.

I belive he read "transylvanian superstitions" in which he found the word. Its not romanian though, its most certainly an archaic romanian word bastardized in english translations
