A rookie Schumacher showing us a glimpse into his amazing future and the iconic drag race between senna and Mansell. 1991 Spanish Grand Prix was one of the best
1991 is my favorite year for F1. V8s, V10s, V12s most with 3 pedals and H-pattern shifters and some with electronic shifting made each car-driver combination unique sounding. You could tell which driver was comming around the bend just by listening to the engine and the downshifts. The cars were not too heavy on the downforce so there was closer racing and helped all the cars look absolutely beautiful. And the Drivers could actually see out of the car on all sides. 1989-1993 my favorite era. Yes the V10s of the early 2000s are awesome. But thats ghe only thing from that era that stands out to me.
Wow, what a first lap only in the 3rd race of his F1 career. MS overtook (1992) world champion Mansell and challenged "rain king" Senna for 2nd place. Later in the race he passed Prost too. It was plain to see that a new legend was born, from whom you could expect a lot more brilliant races. And this youngster didn't disappoint at all, he lived up to expectations maximally.
And then there was the controversy over the 1994 Benetton that hadn't had it's launch control removed, the crashing with Hill to win the championship same year, the attempted same trick with Jacques Villeneuve in '97 and the "accidental crash" at Monaco qualifying in 2006. Yeah, he's not as spotless as some think.

Even so, today's cars seem so much faster in the corners than the old days with all the downforce they use.
Nigel overtook him a lap or two after. Then Alesi did also I believe. And MSC did a mistake and spun. There's a lag between the images and the sounds...
And back then when I was just a 90’s Kid I thought that those F1 cars were unbelievable advanced in technology and speed. In fact they did a huge step forward in just a few years.
I actually remember watching this race live ( along with SPA when he drove the Jordan )... There was a feeling in the air that this kid had Senna-like speed AND Prost-like brains, and that he just might become better than the lot of them
And then, he didn't become as good as either of them
@@emelle1283 He surpassed them both by winning with 2nd rated cars 3 times.
Keveston LMAO - you are highly confused and clearly werent watching F1 at the time as i was. In fact it was Prost and Senna that won with 2nd rate cars - Prost in 1986 when Williams was best and Senna in 1990 when Ferrari was best and again in 1991 when Williams was best. Senna almost did it again in 1993 when his Mclaren wasnt even second best but THIRD best - beating Schumacher in the Benetton which was the 2nd best car by a whopping 5 wins to 1 and almost beating Prost in the Williams which was light years better than either the McLaren or Benetton. Schumacher on the other hand never won a single time in a 2nd rated car - he had the best car every single year he won.
@@emelle1283 If you really watched f1 in 1990 ferrari wasn't the best. It was most of the time 0.2s slower than McLaren and everyone knew Berger wasn't at Mansell's level yet he was ahead of him many times.
@@emelle1283 Mclaren wasn't the 3rd best in 93 only if you knew the whole story why McLaren wanted to get rid of Andretti.
To the best f1 driver ever lived.
Real cars!
amazing to watch, more please
This is amazing, but please stop faking the engine sounds!
I cannot disagree !
+ExplosiveFace Maybe the original audio is damaged.
+///No Power most likely there was no microphone to record the audio, only a camera to record the footage.
+specdecible
There was a audio, look at this: watch?v=Gs62bkOWkT4
at 45s it switches to Schumacher onboard only,
very poor job by FOM!
Sorry to barge in this late, is it possible they used a Ferrari V12 or Honda V12 for that race? It sounds like it came from the same race but it's simply not too much in sync with what Schumacher is doing in the cockpit.
PS: Screw that, it's definitely not a Honda, that sounds way rougher around the edges at top revs. Me thinks it's a Ferrari, behind somewhereon the track.
Just shows how not only was schuey a gifted driver but a real 'racer' . He was not intimidated from the moment he first stepped into an f1 car and there was nobody on the track that he didn't consider his equal. Despite having only three grands prix under his belt.
Just when you thought it was safe to drive circuit de catalunya: surprise! Extra 90s chicane
Remember that 1994 chicane there?
@@matthy31 yes. Every time I played it on the playstation f1 game I forgot all about it and careened into it
Same with the chicane on the backstraight of montreal
Schumacher amazing this race hello i am Brasil fantastic
wrong sound, it is not ford v8. more sounds like v12 from mclaren
it isnt the real sound.
+joao soares it is the real sound just very out of sync
HaZaRd Gaming
it is not the sound of this car
V12 Ferrari precisely. The sound of the 91 Honda engine is more brutal and stronger.
You are right. The gear shift sound is from a semi automatic gearbox, there is no heel and toe sound. In 91 only Ferrari and Williams had semi automatic gearbox.
Awesome. In some alternate reality timeline Senna and Schumacher battled out the entire 94, 95, 96, 97 and maybe even beyond for the f1 title. Senna , Schumacher and Alonso are the three greatest drivers in history .
the best ever. no one has won as many races in what was not the best car. schumi 92-2006 GOAT
Dream team: Ayrton and Michael
Ferrari 2004.
@Boris Posavec not for schumacher thats for sure. He is faster
Would be a Prost v Senna magic again.
Would definitely empty the bank to see that.
So smooth on the throttle! 😊😊
Great talent. Maybe world champion one day
And Schumacher was always in the fastest cars everybody said. Won 2 Titles & got banned many races in his first title win nobody said
Always in the fastest cars my ass. Who's everybody? Name some of them. If that were the case, he would of had won 12 or so titles.
Schumacher foi ótimo piloto
SENNA: "YOU SHALL NOT PASS"!
of course, he was driving a mclaren and was behind prost who had the same car. Schumacher was in a freaking benetton and his teammate who was way more experienced, was already far behind.
It was Berger leading
@@leandrosantannamarques5066 are you telling me that Senna was behind Berger driving the same car?
@@marcopoloplanner8843 Prost was not with Mclarn then, and if you know anything about F1 racing watch how Senna's car is handling, its a total dog, and he spun out a few laps later, as did the great but novice Schumacher.
@@gerrywhelan5761 hey kid, I know F1 very well. I worked in F1 for 5 years. Schumacher had a dog of a car in Spain 1996. That's a pure victory. Nothing else.
Wonderful video, this is the layout F1 should be using! Today's last chicane is horrible
Senna segurando todo mundo e economizando pneus e o carro, deixando Berger partir. Ele venceu várias corridas nesse ano fazendo essa estratégia pra segurar as Williams e ser campeão.
Viúva detectada 🤣
Great michael, he was only at his therd race in F1 !!!.
