- This 1 credit run using Meltdown was a request from @jonghyun3725. I saw it in the list when I was looking at MiSTer FPGA arcade cores, so I decided to dig in and go for it!
I had never heard of this one before, but after playing and beating it I discovered it is a part of the R-Type universe...WTH?!? I guess Irem needed an excuse to join the 1990's fighting game craze after Street Fighter 2 exploded.
My strategies I used were very basic: most opponents can be beaten with Meltdown's command grab (f+all three kicks) after using an early jumping normal that whiffs. I also found that the dashing middle kick (drop kick) can be used to "tick" into the command throw with good timing.
A couple characters needed specific strategies to beat: Satinsect (lol) can't deal with Meltdown's jumping hard punch, so I abused it. Hilariously, Cattydox can't do anything about his down jab.
In typical fashion, the Western release of the game omits a couple things from the Japanese version (named "Perfect Soldiers"). Missing are win quotes after beating an A.I. fighter, and the announcer doesn't shout the names of the characters at the VS screen . The names of many of the characters are different, as well.
Played on the MiSTer FPGA's Irem M92 arcade core using default settings (shown after game is completed).
Thanks for watching!

Lovin' the pre-fight staredown, parallax backgrounds, and hit feedback. Fun character designs. Excellent play as always.
I agree, the staredowns are great although I wish the US / World version got the "win quotes" the Japanese version has.
thank you, really appreciate the comment!
I've never heard of this but I could tell by the music Irem made it. 🤣 (it has a bit of a Vigilante vibe)

THANK YOU a MILLION!
In R-Type universe this game's event is to be called "Hidden history".
sure, thank you for the recommendation!
I enjoyed learning it and was pleasantly surprised to discover the end story.

btw, are you still interested playing Dino Rex some day? Characters I requested were either Ceratosaur or Allosaur.
