  • Standing behind your horse just to the side of his quarters, use a hand to stroke just above the tail to encourage relaxation and make sure that your horse is aware of your position. Using both hands start to gently apply pressure either side of the spine and down the hamstrings, either using the finger tips to circle or scratch downwards, your horse should respond by slowly lifting and rounding the back.
    Tip: if your horse is prone to kicking this exercise is not advised. Standing slightly to the side allows you to gauge your horse's facial expression and reaction to pressure on the reflex point.
