Plenty of native English speakers misspell this too. Or, should I say, use lose or loose in the wrong rhetorical context.
But "I didn't want to lose you" (i.e., I didn't want you to leave or abandon me---what Kara's saying), has an extremely different meaning compared to "I didn't want to loose you" (a pretty uncommon usage---perhaps apart from BDSM! i.e., I didn't want to untie you ;-/)
