This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Perfectly executed bow ties. The big crack cleaned out very nice and complements the natural edge, while the bow ties add a sophisticated contrast. Thanks for sharing!
nagyon szép munka és nagyon jó videó, remek szögekkel!! nagy segítség ez nekem, mert hamarosan szeretnék egy kis asztalt csinálni, aminek az alapanyaga valószínűleg hasonlóan repedt lesz.
I just gained access to a recently cut down Oak Tree, I’m hoping to make a table... I assume it will crack as it dries and plan on using bow tires, but also resin filling the cracks after installing the bow ties.... I’ll probably make three tables, one for me, one for the owner who had to remove the tree, one for the person who planted it over 30 years ago (who was upset it had to be cut down)
LOVE your videos! They're so very clear and interesting to follow. You have a great style of delivery and also the work itself. Thanks for sharing! John in Halifax, in Canada.
Szilard Pinter Working on new video at the moment. So i hope that wow will be soon :-) I'm so busy with commission's that i have very little time for everything. I must reorganise my self :-)
Good work! The outermost bow tie would have looked awesome as a solid piece through the slab. Maybe even have an inlay on the visible side of the bow tie....
Stop drilling those crack would keep them from continuing to crack and then insert dowels make of the same kind of wood the bow ties are made. Made a shelf out of pine ends and eventually they continued to crack, thus destroying the shelf. Good job on the bow ties.
I really liked the addition of the strip of wood in the middle of your bow ties, but I'm curious about the look of using a thin flat piece of wood over the deep crack. After tidying up all the splinters, did you consider using the crack as a template to cut a contrasting piece of wood to fill in the crack before using the bow ties? You simply shape the crack so it's tapered to be slight wider at the top edge, taper your insert wood so it's narrower on the bottom edge, and of course longer vertically than what the crack is. Then you'll reach the point where it's snug on top and bottom crack edges, trim off the excess to make it flush, and you'll get a perfect fit.
I have a similar slab, what is your opinion on splitting it in half and using other wood in the middle to make it into an oval? I was thinking I could insert an induction top in the middle for hotpot. Or would it be better if I cut a hole in the middle of the slab to insert the cooktop? The slab is ash wood and any other wood I use would be oak, poplar or pine from home depot.
Hi sir, I hope you are doing well. I am wondering what is the tool machine you are using in your work starting at the 5:51 of the video. If you send link of it that would be cool and thank you.
Love that stripe in the middle but do you think it adds a certain amount of instability to the key? How did it hold up? Just asking because I may steal your idea but I’m pretty much a rookie at woodworking and am concerned that it may separate 👍
Magyari Balázs köszönöm Szepen! Ertelek😊, csak az a baj hogy a Magyar kozonseg a feliratkozok kb 0.2% -at teszi ki, Es lehetseges hogy az a maradek 99.8% annyira nem dìjazna! 😊👍
Came out great, but......sort of painful to watch you free hand cut the inlay on the top. There is a router jig that cuts them perfectly, both the bow and the inlay cut. I use it all the time, makes for a perfect press fit.
Haha not near the pain of my knee replacement last year, but I will get over it...Guess I just do not have the patience to chip away with a chisel. I love my router collection, and am not afraid to use it. Here is a mahogany, walnut, paduk and oak bar top a I made a few years ago using bow ties to hide the joints in the paduk.. Also a jewelry box I made with double double dovetail joints, using that Jointtech router table system. Came out great..... My wife caught me watching your chopping board with bow ties video , and now of course wants me to make her one . n oakley no not really. Based on the fact that the glue stronger then the wood. Also side grain glued with side grain, it's not weak at all! But I appreciate your comment, and the fact that the only thing you had to say is what to be picky about tells everything I need to know! Cheers 😁👍

Great presentation and the close up is great. Nice work, and gives me the confidence to try the bow ties out. Thank you.

Those keys look great. Clever idea on making them with the line down the middle.
swirt thank you! Appreciate that!
lol I always use my table saw as a work bench for stuff too. Awesome work, I am going to attempt some soon myself.
Amazing work man. Can't wait to get that good freehand. Your control with router is good.
I just did something similar but with iroko, mahogany and Ash. The Irish ash I have is harder than steel 😳
Beautiful video 👍
Great video. Loved how you edited it. And a beautiful project.
smiley thank you!
nice stuff, good job man
Nice, very nice. Got a slab similar which I'm going to use this as a bench mark. Thanks.
Daniel Dumbarton thank you!
Your bow ties came out awesome great job! If it was my project I would fill the cracks with epoxy, less problems down the road. Thanks for sharing.

Nice work. Didn't know you listened to so much Alvin and the Chipmunks.. :)
Path in AZ I didn't know either! 😊

Ron Marshall thank you sir, and good luck 👍
Very cool make a feature rather than trying to disguise the ties, nice work 👍
That turned out really nice!

beautiful work, learned how to hang for the wood does not open more, congratulations
It hurt my soul to not see you put a finish on that gorgeous piece of wood.
just beautiful
very well explained. Thank you

What router bit do you use when craving the bow into the stump?
thank you so much.

What are you measuring at 5:03-5:05?

For a split plastic,
It is necessary to pierce the end of the slot, to stop this,
The round shape best divides the efforts.
Now I know, every video game soundtrack ever made is sped up radio broadcast.
I think that the bow tie should be a bit thicker. Because it is the purpose of preventing breaking
ボウタイはもう少し分厚い方が良いと思います。割れるのを防止するのが目的なので
山田太郎 මමත් හිතනවා. හිල නැතිකරානම් තවත් හොඳයි නේද
good job
Nice job.....thnks
Parabéns, muito bonito,👏👏👏👏
hello, this wood is ? doussier ?
Hi sir, I hope you are doing well.

Hi اسير الشوق that is a fix base router!
Szilard Pinter thank you a lot
What shape of bit do you use when you did the work at 5:51 of the video
Great job
Eddie Espinosa thanks!
This is super nice!!! Love it! Can you tell me what type of bit you used on your compact router? Thanks!!!
What router bit did you use?
what kind of wood would one use to make a top ?
Love that stripe in the middle but do you think it adds a certain amount of instability to the key? How did it hold up? Just asking because I may steal your idea but I’m pretty much a rookie at woodworking and am concerned that it may separate 👍
Smoke eater no issues with the strip in the middle at all! Holds up perfectly fine ever since! 🙂👍
Szilard Pinter Cool! Hope you don’t mind if I steal that idea then. Adds another level of coolness to the project. I love that look.👍
I never understood why you wouldn't force the wood together before adding the joint so the crack isn't visible? It would look soo much better imo
Legit Question: Why do people add a bow tie to tables? I've seen a lot of people do it. Is it a necessity with the cracks? Or is it for looks?
Hippestguyever two reasons. Structural reinforcement and decorative purposes as well!👍
do you fill the cracks with clear exopy or something..?
John Hammack no, I will not!
Beautiful job but I would have liked to see another bowtie on the smaller crack under the other two bowties.
Nice! Please show the finished piece!!!
Roger Mattmann thank you!
Hopefully I can next weekend!
Cheers

Here is sort of a long winded usage of the router inlay bushing..

Why always Bowties? Why not Knife, Fork and Spoon? Or three Puzzle Pieces, 3D cubes, three different hammers. There are endless shapes.
super felicitarii
Great content but the music or sound just wasn’t for me. Others may like it but I had to turn sound off.
There are many similar projects in Woodglut's plans.
That's all???
If i'm going to be mega picky, you shouldn't really have used the central piece [in the bow tie] You've created a weak point
n oakley no not really. Based on the fact that the glue stronger then the wood. Also side grain glued with side grain, it's not weak at all!

contrasting wood on pic looks horrible.
jimforjzs777 thanks, l love you too! 😆👍

I don't think you would know beauty if it slapped you in the face. Or you are blind. That contrast is beautiful.
Jesse Evett
it looks like a wart on a woman's pretty face.
OK, that is funny. But what would you have done.
jimforjzs777 trying to match the tone would be just as obvious and wouldn't give the spectacle of contrast
Great job
Great job
