All along i thought the hinduism in Mauritius & the east indies were quite similar, it looks like the northern & southern traditions had somehow mixed a little more in the latter countries. We do have fire walking, walking on machetes(only one village) & some goat sacrifices, the last two becoming extinct slowly but surely BUT have never seen or heard of any ceremony like the one i'v just seen. Also Kateri & Kal bhairav (we also have madurai veeren) are folk deities which are worshiped by very very few ppl, while the rest of the ppl focus more mainstream deities.Having said that it is interesting from cultural, societal, religious & anthropological points of view.
These traditions are realistically of NOT hindu origin. You have to understand that Hinduism in itself is not indigenous to India, these traditions pre-date Hinduism. This tradition of "ancestral" worship is practiced mainly by the Dravidian Indians (Tamils also known as Madrasis) of South India. Madurai Veeran (hero of Madurai) was the son of a king that was martyred in Madurai (city in Tamil Nadu). Sangili Karuppan (literally "dark man with a chain", also known as karuppasamy) was a forest bandit who became popular after his death - these were people that existed, not "gods". Anywhere where Tamil Indians (madrasis) were taken (Trinidad, Guyana, Fiji, Mauritius, South Africa, Malaysia, etc), they continued their cultural traditions based on these beliefs. This is almost exclusive to the Tamil community of South India.
its not the pujarie's fault or choice that the little boy takes on manifestation. that is between the devis and devas and the little boy himself. they're the shakti thats within him.. not the pujarie.
Crystal Singh Which world are you living in?..These type of traditions are nonsense.Fear is passed on from generation to generation. What is there is fear, not God. If you are lucky enough to be free from fear, then there is no God.All our experiences, spiritual or otherwise, are the basic cause of our suffering. The body is not interested in anything that you are interested in. That is the battle that is going on all the time...There seems to be no way out.
+Rahul Kumar so what about what Africans do? Or what about the Monks? It's about having pure minds, & about letting your inner spirit guide you thru. Your telling no mind can be as spiritual as what you see? Opinions on religion shouldn't have no rights to speak. Everyone believes in someone different. & FYI Hinduism was one of the first religion to be around. So explain to me again why you feel as if Madrasi is a blind faith?
Dillon Allie Tamil is a very old language that’s y u ask them to speak English cause Tamil is from the very old mothers and they will leave and younger mothers will come and speak English

Why do they need so much water to be poured over them?
