Yes I bought a book by Jerry Salz and Eric Fischl many years ago, it’s called Sketchbook with Voices. each page has a great quote and the rest is blank, so you can draw.
@Jennwiggs....Oh wow!! I have that book and loved each page so much- I never drew in it but just kept reading it as a source of creative inspiration!! It was published in 1986 and is truly an oldie but a goodie !!!! ( Still in print on Amazon if anyone is interested). thanks!
Hi Cheryl, thanks for putting this together. I'll have to go check out some of these books since I've never heard of any of them! One of my favourite books about sketchbooks is An Illustrated Life by Danny Gregory. There's a second volume called An Illustrated Journey that I would like to someday get my hands on too!
Hi Louise I love Danny Gregory! I read The Creative License: Giving Yourself Permission to Be the Artist you truly are. Another author I love is D. Price -How to Make a Journal of Your Life. This little book is a gem! He also wrote The Moonlight Chronicles: a Wandering Artist Journal. (travel-related journaling)
@@cherylwarrick Thanks for the suggestions! I'd never heard of Dan Price before - I'll need to check out his books for sure! Actually another couple of books I like to flip through for inspiration is 1001 Artist Journal Pages, and A World of Artist Journal Pages (both curated by Dawn DeVries Sokol). There's a real mix of different styles, from pure sketching to pure collaging and everything in between. I'm always amazed by the amount of imagination among these artists!
Love this, books I haven't seen. I always find art books really get my brain going m sketchbooks will. It be shared. But I love seeing these. Thanks long ago I saw the original Tier ice by Picasso. An experience for which I have few words, but tears
art is so subjective... some of those sketchbook pages were "meh" (ie: 5:19)... and as I flip through my own sketchbooks - I would say some of my pages blow these out of the water! Lol.. but I am a nobody so no one puts them into a book. Same with the Picasso book... you kept saying "Amazing...".. but if someone just handed you a random print and it didn't have the name "Picasso" on it - would you still think it amazing or just odd looking scribbles, lines and colors (ie: 9:02)? I think it is the same for small restaurant chefs... some can cook amazing dishes that blow the dishes produced by so called "celebrity chefs".. but since they didn't get on TV - no one thinks they are amazing.
Thank you so much for sharing this! 🎨 Art is so subjective, and that’s the beauty of it, right? What speaks to one person may not resonate with another. I totally get where you're coming from - it’s interesting how much a name or reputation can shape our view of a piece of work. And honestly, I’d love to see those sketchbook pages of yours that blow these out of the water! 😊 As artists, we all have those pieces that feel ‘meh’ to us (I know I do!), but those are often the very pages that get us closer to the ones we’re truly proud of. It sounds like you’ve got some amazing work in your own sketchbooks, and just because it’s not in a published book doesn’t make it any less powerful or worthy. Keep creating and sharing your voice - it’s unique and valuable, and I’m sure others would find it inspiring too! 💪✨
Very interesting video. I've never seen another video about sketchbook books before so it was unique to me.
