I got a bloody nose playing this game in 1967 when I was in 2nd grade. I got the "bacon," but when I ran "home" the boy chasing me tagged me hard right into the gym's brick wall. It is a fun game though.
We have the numbers on one side going ascending and the other descending so all players have an equal distance to run. If the bacon is not back within a set amount of seconds its a tie the bacon is returned and a new number called. We call it steal the bone.
When I play this game with my students I have more than one piece of bacon. I tell 1-4 the blue scarf is your bacon, 5-8 the red scarf is your bacon, etc. I call more than one number at a time. For example; I will call 1, 5, and 9. Six players will be going at the same time but to different bacon items.
the way my school played was there was seven 6 graders seven 7graders and seven 8graders and each side of a box and the teacher was on the other and if the teacher called out "4" all the 4s would go and if an 8th grader got it and they were tapped by another grade they would have to set it on the ground but they could pick it back up. it was really fun and very entertaining to watch xD
probably how you teach it and it depends on the class time and the class.. I taught it and my kids loved it.. but it's only a once in a while kinda thing...
They actually play this game in PE?? I played this on the street. Its not a brand new concept. Too much sitting and not enough time on task. Especially for 5 and 6 year olds.
Fun thing I like to add to this game is math equations. 4-3 = 1's go, 6=2= 8's go. I like to challenge my students minds and body and soul.
Man my students wouldnt be able to do it
