Smart call turning around. The mountain will always be there but if you do something dumb you might not be there. It's a very dangerous mountain and a lot of people under estimate it. I summited it last year during October. That same week a man died from a fall, and a different lady had to get air lifted from outpost camp. That's the risk you take and you just have to be smart. Apply for the permits again next year. I'd suggest investing in quality hiking shoes, as well as an osprey day pack. Also bring a water filter and filter along the trail it saves so much weight and there are plenty of streams. Lastly you could take diamox two days before the hike which significantly helps with altitude symptoms. Just work on your elevation gain. Do a bunch of 4000+ foot elevation gain hikes. Weight lifting as well, but mainly building the stamina and mental strength getting use to that leg burn for hours on end. Very impressed how far you guys made it for it being your first hike. I think you guys will easily summit next year. Just prepare more. Take care, have fun, and stay safe!

Good job, guys! You made a wise decision to not push yourselves and risk serious injury or worse...The mountain will be there when you're ready for the next attempt. Safety first!

Cool video, you guys did really well. Especially for a couple first timers. It's a very tough hike, but it sure is incredible out there. With a little more prep you guys will definitely summit. I'd say give it another go. Get that pic holding the sign and sign the book next to the hut. I've been going back every year since my first summit, and that was 5 years ago. Thanks for sharing your adventure.

At 11:45 When he said: "we're almost there, only 4 miles to go" 😂 Not knowing that the hardest part is coming! The 99 switchbacks and the last 1.9 miles to the summit. This make the first 6 miles look like a walk in the park.😅

@@LegitTomtopia reason why my pack was heavy because of carrying tents and stuff. Party of 8 people and the ladies didn't want to carry any of those things lol. Filter water is key, that way you pack less water and more food. Main thing is to make it to the second camp site before the peak so other hikers can get use to the elevation. My crew some of them got nose bleed or extreme headache, just have to descend a bit on elevation then go back up. they felt better staying at the camp site and leaving next morning and all you need is a day pack, 1 bottle water and snacks, i left everything else in the tent at the site. No one is going to be stealing tents or stuff at that elevation. That way you can move a lot quicker to the peak, take pictures then go home. I also trained my group on other mountains like half dome, etc.

@TestsubX Did you pack out the same day after you submitted? It seems like it would be awesome to do it in multiple days. I think it would be a little more enjoyable verses doing it in 1 day. I can imagine starting the switchbacks fresh helps.
