Its pure stupid building houses in Ireland without a chimney. You need a place to warm oneself when you have no electricity for days. I hope lessons are learned from this disaster.
We had a young man in his 20's killed her in Clifford,Donegal with fallen tree RIP. So very sad 🙏 And homes here still with no power,no heat no fires😲 and lots of people with no way of cooking and wer told from ESB that it could be into beg. Feb.before we are sorted. So those folks are staying with family members that's lucky enough to have power. And might l add no way of contacting family either because no phones. My own family also lost all their food as freezers not working,so Val we are not out of the storm here yet in Dear Old Donegal
They will never wake up until there is a genuine alternative party running in elections. It needs to be a middle of the road party that is interested in real issues like taxation, health, education, transport and immigration.
I don't think the electricity supply network is being maintained adequately at a local rural level. I've been looking at the roadside poles in my area leaning one way or the other for the last few years. Prior to that, the ESB pole truck was out replacing aging poles and cutting back trees on an ongoing basis.
On demand Lectric is one of our biggest achievements. Taken for granted by the youngens. But it only takes a power cut to go back to the 1930s in a Big Flash.
I’ve never seen so many trees down. Out near Killykeen, macrocarpas (cypresses) strewn everywhere, many ash trees - snapped from mid trunk - debris all over the roads. Friends out Aghagower, Co Mayo - parents planted trees 35+ years ago, couple of acres - 3/4 of trees decimated. I agree, Val - no fire 🔥 or heat, even to cook and pour a hot water bottle- vital!
Most of the trees that fell were rotten. Ireland has a very wet climate so if the trees have disruption in growth that water can create moulds and bacterium in the centre of the tree that reduces their structural strength and one bad storm brings them down.
@@Art-is-craft The lack of maintenance of trees in Ireland is a disgrace, especially road side trees. The roadside trees get butchered by utility crews doing subbie work for the ESB.
@Toyotaamazon80series Ireland has a serious lack of planning and very poor infrastructure. It would take very detailed planning and about €100 billion to solve all the issues. And about €80 billion to build out the defence force. Healthcare can easily be solved with no real expenditure.
Well val I'm probably around your age and got through the storm fine with no damage we were well warned about it and I thought it was a bit over top but it was one hell of a storm i used a welder generator that I never used before iv only ever used it as a welder it powered up everything we needed lights kettle toaster and we have a big boiler stove in kitchen and most of our family round to charge their phones you 100% right about modern homes with heat pumps i know one family with a brand new house and two electric cars they had no water no heat and phones and couldn't go anywhere some of our own kids have new houses with no chimney now there all looking at getting a switcher plug on wall for a generator the big wind 80 years ago houses in the country had no electricity no phones and no cars everyone cycled or walked everywhere I was reared on a farm we had all our own food back in 50ts and 60ts.
Hello, I just stumbled upon your channel. I'm old school, I enjoy chit chat which is why I subscribed. Folks, nowadays seems to have no patience for conversation. I'm subscribed to another channel Bealtine Cottage, her name is Collette living there in western Ireland. She lost some beautiful trees as well. My home is in Alaska. Some Irishman, William Foster Sr., made his way all the way to the Aleutian Islands back in the 1800's, now I have Irish ancestors from the Country Cork area hence my interest in Irish folks. The Aleutian Islands, my original homeland, are called the birthplace of the winds, so that's what I got use to as a kid, high winds. I was surprised you spoke about President Trump and huge changes coming. I happy to hear you are aware of it.
Excellent video again. You always give us a bit of a laugh somewhere through it. Yes unbelievable that people dont at least have a gas hob for occasions like this. I know that a lot of people on social welfare had to put heat pumps into their homes , i think last year or year before, and had to block up their chimneys they must have been freezing. No electricity no heat. Unfortunately a tweny year old lad was killed by a falling tree in Raphoe in Donegal, GOD have mercy on his soul. Harris didnt go on Joe Rogan she made too many demands. I guess she wanted the list of questions so she could make up a load of lies in answers. Its possible that Trump will do something thats going to annoy us during his four years, but he still stands for a lot of the values that we hold dear, and more importantly that the majority of the Americans hold dear. We cant all agree with everything that people say or do but if they get most of it right i know i can live with that. And the alternative " we are no longer burdened by what has been" ( nobody knows what it means except her, if she even knows, but it was her mantra,) Harris. 😂 No competition there. Thanks Val.
In cash and coal we trust.
Hopefully people got a real wake up about those silly heat pumps.
Our Esse Ironheart wood burning range was brilliant.

Valuable and informative commentary. Great stuff.
Hopefully you are right Val, and the powers that be will wake up in regard to these passive houses.

Big storm val, I used to live down the coast Galway and Clare, I think it was bad down that country 😮
We all need to get offgrid solar panels batteries small auto start diesel generator i did it 12 years ago
best thing i ever done .
Nope. That will never work. The reason most electricity networks went down is due to bad infrastructure.

The technology is not there for everybody to get off grid.
@@Art-is-craft you talk nonsense go do some research
The old ways , cast iron, will the little flowers learn. NO.
Where are the green party folk no fire no gas , no ESB.....?...all that wind gone to waste!

Is it a human right to keep yourself warm by all means possible
It’s priority for these councillors to build as many houses as possible but not a chimney in sight, glad you’re safe in these dastardly winds.
Houses for foreigners is their priority.
'FTTP' - Fibre to the premises telecoms has no battery support. To run telecoms requires a 12volt battery to power the modem and router.
It is not just that. The networks have not power backup at all. Even when people had their electricity back the networks were still down.

Disobedience is the problem and the cause of all the storms, climate change and any other madness.
What about homes with big electric gates.
