Pulled into Austin in 95 and the radio announced delbert was going to be at dessall (sp)hall the next night. Man o man never forget that night. I think they had to put a new roof on the next day. He blew it off
Delbert is now - always was - and always will be the best vocalist on the planet .I now have every recording he ever made and even some that weren't released. His son Clayton is carrying on the torch... The Amazing McClintons ! =R=
Delbert is awesome !! I first saw him in the early 80s . I have seen him several times since then . In 1990 I saw him at a little club in Little Rock . I met a young lady that night and we have been married 28 years now !!
I love everything that Delbert has ever done but I especially like this song. It's not everyday that you can write a song about bar b que and jumper cables!!
One of the wisest thing I have ever heard you say. The very first time you hear Delbert sing he has, heart and soul. Once you listen to him you want more. I love him so much. 💜💜💜
I ahd been digging Delbert for about 10 years before I saw him live. I had played his stuff so much i knew everyword to everysong. My 1st time seeing him was in a small club in Greenville S.C., about 150 people. After one fix of him live the CD's are like methadone they only keep you from withdrawl. You will be needing that live fix any time you can get it, even TV if that is your only option. He is one of the rare artists who sound better live than on recordings. i am up to 89 live shows now.
He , Delbert Mc Clinton is the absolute best song writer, singer, musician I ever had the pleasure of seeing. I will continue to enjoy his music as long as I can.
He let me sit at the piano with him at the boardwalk in Greensboro NC in 1980. I sang with him because he held the microphone between us. He was such a cool guy. I love seeing great acts in small bars. There is nothing that compares to it.
Saw him a bunch when he played in Philly at the old Bijou in th 80's He was backed by some of the Muscle Shoals guys: David Hood, Roger Hawkins, Jimmy Johnson. Always a rockin' show
Yes Delbert worked the circuit hard in the 70s & 80s. He played Butchertown Pub regularly in Louisville 500-600 sweaty dancin fools by the end of his show.
I agree entirely. Strangely, I'd just heard a track by Delbert that put me in mind of Delta Lady and I was about to seek out Joe Cocker when I glimpsed this and had to stop off here. I'm glad I did. What a concert those two could put on!! I wish you peace and well-being.
Delbert is an excellent singer, but when I sought out Frankie Miller's catalogue (an artist who McClinton covers), then I found an even more impressive voice! If you haven't listened to this Scottish blues/soul singer yet, do yourselves a favour!
Let's start over....for music lovers (country, rockabiliy, R&B, blues etc.) check or re-check Delbert McClinton. Something for everyone who is moved bu music!!!
+Donna Thibodeau Donna: Love Delbert, have you listened to Russell Smith? My all-time favorite singer, does everything too, lots of blues, toured w/Delbert also w/Amazing Rhythm Aces
+ sandy connie...I've just discovered Delbert in the last 5 years or so. Quickly becoming my favorite. I'm afraid I am not familiar with Russell Smith. Heard of but, again, not familiar with the Amazing Rhythm Aces. Happy listening
Donna Thibodeau...are you from Canada ..all the Thbodeaux's I know have an x at the in of their name ....I am from south of I-10....Cajun Country ...been a Delbert fan for 30+ years have seen him live dozens of times ..go out of your way to see him live the energy is wild
True Nicholson and Delbert are great friends. Gary has written some of Delberts best known songs. Ever heard of Whitey Johnson? That is Gary's alter ego he dresses up and plays as Whitey sometimesd, and it is almost delbert Good, LOL.
I can't understand in any way - why this monolith of a performer is still a relatively unknown in the music world. He's the best soul man I've ever heard.
Dialoquese he is well known in the music world, not as well known to the public. The people in the business know and have great respect for him. It's a shame that more people don't know about his music. I have been spreading the word and been gifting his music to others since the 70's. He is best experienced in smaller venues up close. Of hos music doesn't move you, you need to make sure your organ donor card is filled out.
I am a DELBERT DECIPLE, He isn't commercialy well known because he won't play the radio and major label game of fitting a song to the pigeon hole fomula. It may not be well known but in the early to mid 90's SONY developed a computer algorythim they have refined and is now used by most labels. You load a song the computer uses the algorythim to decide if the song fits. Think about it, using country music, 45min and u c u have heard it all. the basic 6 song styles. take away vocals, c how its 6xx
I agree that Delbert is the top but Rickie is showing his musical ignorance when he says, referring to Delbert's screams, "I've never heard anybody do that." James Brown is hands down the world's best screamer.
Feel sorry for any real music lover who doesn't know of, cherish and love Delbert McClinton and his unique style and superb voice...
Delbert is a Master Songsmith and a fantastic performer. The epitome of a smoky bar entertainer.
Catch him live if you can, buy his CD if you can't.

Saw him in Philly a few times in late 80s early 90s, and here I am in 2024. Love this blues man! .💓

I think I was born lovin' Delbert's music. My kids' first concert was Delbert. There is nothing better.
He and we are both very lucky he has been doing what he was born to do all these years.
He , Delbert Mc Clinton is the absolute best song writer, singer, musician I ever had the pleasure of seeing. I will continue to enjoy his music as long as I can.

BLUE IYED SOUL i
Saw Delbert in the 90.s .I saw his video on MTV with Vince gill..Bought the album "One of the fortunate few" and loved every track.
Mm, mm, mm.
The only difference between Delbert & Mick Jagger is one of them is a great singer & the other one is just a rolling stone
Nah, it's Gary Nicholson. They been writin' songs and producin' for years.
I agree that Delbert is the top but Rickie is showing his musical ignorance when he says, referring to Delbert's screams, "I've never heard anybody do that." James Brown is

+thirdbase6870 Right! Tom Jones is a good screamer too.I'm a singer myself, but screaming? Forget it! It's not easy.
Tied.
