A bit of nostalgia.... I had a few Indian Runners among a group of ducklings I raised. I don’t know why but the dark brown Indian Runner would always run to me when I went out to see all of them and he would put his feet on top of mine and just stand like that and look up at me. Just thinking now and I can remember what it felt like!!! Enjoyed your video very much and I must say the Cayuga was my favorite. Never seen them except in catalogs. Beautiful.
I admire your work on conservation of the breeds. They are all so beautiful to pick a favorite. Also, so funny to watch. Nice to meet Walter, the guy in charge. Thanks for this informative video.
I love ducks!!!!!Yours are all very beautiful. As a child I had a Pekin, who thought she was a bantam chicken. That was because she lived with them. Now I have pied Muscovies. Thank you for showing all your ducks and your wonderful farm.
The work you are doing with poultry breeds is wonderful. These videos are some of my favorites. I hope to visit Moss Mountain Farm this year. Travel from East Tennessee will be a short trip!
Nice video! I actually had Khaki Campbells a few years back and got out of chickens and ducks. I'm getting back into it and have decided on Cayuga ducks and Black Australorp chickens. Both are fairly good egg layers and I got the dark black colors to keep predators at bay up here in the mountains of Colorado. Plus both breeds can be used for meat and eggs.
Beautiful ducks! We have hundreds of mallords here at Lake Kiowa!! So many!! We had two ducks that would come and eat off our bird seeds on the ground. Then they would fly away the most beautiful picture of them flying! Huge ducks. We figured they were a pair with one expecting! They were so gorgeous to watch!!
I I never knew there were so many different breeds in ducks ( let alone the rest of your breeds of poultry). I've learned so much from you about them all, so thank you. As far as my favorite, well Walter wins hands down!! I mean come on, he such a stinker and so dang cute :-)
Thanks for the informative video. I’ve had Indian runners for years now and each of my female ducks have sat on their eggs and have hatched many duckings. Maybe, because I give them a secluded nesting box.
Hey, I actually raised a Cayuga hen for about 8 years now, and I’ve always been enthralled by the plumage change females undergo. Mine is almost completely white, and looks like a completely different duck. Sadly, the drake passed away about a year or two after they were hatched, but she’s been surprisingly hardy. Excellent video, I learned a lot even about ducks I raised for ages
Loved this and all videos about your poultry. I have ducks, Swedish blue and Khaki Campbell's! When you reach the standard you want do you then sell the offspring so as keep the breed going? So very hard to find the Applegate and the Saxony ducking from commercial breeders!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I've had ducks since I was very little. They were my first pets. I know ducks taste good but I still have trouble eating them because I see a pet on my plate, not an entree. 🙄
Allen I love your ducks. They are really fun pets a little messy but fun to have it is great what you are doing or them, you have to love ❤️ that WALTER he is so much fun to watch.😊
I like your voice... you are very relaxing to listen too! Great video too. I am deciding on some duck breeds for when I get my self sufficient Irish cottage in the future! I like the Indian Runners, Saxony and White Campbell ducks. I also think Muscovey ducks are good as they forage well and don't need much water... but I HATE the way the males look!!!
This might be a silly question, but how do you catch your ducks? We raise Welsh Harlequin and Ancona ducks. When we have to catch one for whatever reason it's a bit of a circus!! Is there a way you recommend that is less stressful for both the ducks and me?
He described the Cayugas eggs as green or buff but did he mean the base color? I have a flock of Cayugas and the breed is known for having a 'bloom' on their eggs that makes them dove grey to charcoal black even granite, it can easily be washed off though I just thought it odd he didn't mention that trait about them as everyone I give eggs to always wants to know about it
I have a question , I have bought some chickens in my home country: Iran , but I don’t have any idea about their ancestors, they are all hybrids , secondly , how can I be sure of their health ? Thanks so much.
Allen I've always wanted to have a small hobby and birds were at the top of my list. Just the other day an Indian runner ran across the road in front me! Now seeing your video, maybe it's time to think more seriously. lol. Is there a breed of duck that would you would suggest as a starter? Now all I have to do is convince my husband....our daughter would be thrilled!
indian runner duck is not from india you got it wrong it came from the dutch indies(indonesia) thats where the indian runner duck comes from, to be more specific the island of Java,Lombok and Bali.
@@PAllenSmith So how do you keep a Hawk from attacking a duck . I had to put burlap over the rabbit run which I didn't think I would have a problem with Hawks or Owls until one was attacked by an Owl ,thankfully she was too big for the owl to pick up but she had some really nasty wounds on her head which she recovered from.
Great place great intro but sorry Indian runner ducks are NOT from India. They originate from Indonesia. Or East Indies islands not the India in sub continent. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Runner_duck
I have Mallards and Khaki Campbells I’ve learned so much from this video 🦆
My campbells still don't love me playing with them. Very disappointing.
I love it every time when you let them go how fast they dashed back to their flocks lolll♡
I love when you talk about ducks Mr Smith it's always very interesting and I learned something new all the time.
Thanks for educating us Allen on the beautiful endangered breeds of ducks. The Aylesbury's are my favorite. Yes, I love Jemima Puddle Duck!
Me too!!
I just love the Indian Runner ducks. I remember another episode with Walter running around in the garden..👍😍

I just loved this video! Thank you so much! Because of Walter , last year I bought an Indian Runner and named him Runner. He's a character!

Cayuga is definitely my favorite
Thanks for the informative video. I’ve had Indian runners for years now and each of my female ducks have sat on their eggs and have hatched many duckings. Maybe, because I give them a secluded nesting box.

I really enjoyed this video. I have Pekin and none of the breeds you showed. This video really educated me. Thanks! BTW, any thoughts on Pekin?

I love 💕 ducks.
Indian Runners, they are just so funny looking.

That Cayuga drake is such a good boy 😭
Definitely amusing to watch.

Which duck breed is least likely to eat all my grass? Thanks
Love them 🥰Use to feed the wild ducks crushed corn but never tried to touch them...🦆

It’s nice to care about barns animals
I would recommend a voice over next time hahaha 😂
Muscovy is my favorite duck.
Have you ever had the Swedish duck breeds?
Where can I buy good quality ducks to help improve the lines? Great video!
I like the Cayuga and Rouen.

Than you for sharing.
I have a question , I have bought some chickens in my home country: Iran , but I don’t have any idea about their ancestors, they are all hybrids , secondly , how can I be sure of their health ? Thanks so much.
They’re relaxing
Allen, Do you have more than one male in each flock?

How do you keep your ducks from flying away?
Do you have a problem with the Drake's being violent toward ducklings?
indian runner duck is not from india you got it wrong it came from the dutch indies(indonesia) thats where the indian runner duck comes from, to be more specific the island of Java,Lombok and Bali.
If your female duck start laying eggs and you remove the male will her eggs be fertile
So where are the Mallards? I like the one from India(?) the ones that you said you like to watch. Good information, thanks for sharing.
Chrystal Sabin we don’t keep Mallards as domestic ducks. But we have plenty that stop through here in Arkansas. Thanks for watching!
Look I found some!!! 🦆 🦆 🦆 lol :)
Lol
You mentioned locking them up at night because of predators, do you have a problem with Hawks there ? I would think we might here in Western N.C.
Kathy Hughes we have hawks, eagles, coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, bear. 👀
