Chapman Stick - Inverted 5ths Chords and Bass - two-handed tapping
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 жов 2010
- Greg Howard offers his take on how the inverted 5ths tuning makes it possible to play bass and rhythm parts all at once with one hand, through easy-to-form chord shapes and natural hand and arm movement.
The instrument used in the video is a Baritone Melody 36" scale 10-string Chapman Stick with the standard Stickup stereo pickup module. It was recorded direct through a StepABout preamp.
For more information about all of the recommended Stick tunings, including mirrored 4ths (as used by Rob Martino), see:

@lockstick Thanks Ricardo. It's nice to know the videos make a difference.
Anyone else out there named Ricardo watching the video?

Beautiful clean playing. Thank you!!
@WyattTheGuitarist There are upsides and downsides to any tuning. If you don't care about playing any chords at all with your left hand, just bass parts, then 4ths in the left hand makes the most sense. If you have 5 accompaniment strings to work with, as on a 10-string Stick, then inverted 5ths gives you the most range and the most possibilities for accompaniment parts on a single group of strings, you can be the bass and rhythm guitar player with just one hand. Thanks for watching
Great presentation, Greg. Your new camera setup really helps get the concepts across.
OH HELL YEAH! Greg I love ya man! Good good stuff!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for closing on "Charmed Life!"
Man oh man do I love the Chapman Stick!!!!
@perboysen Thanks, Per. I really appreciate you checking it out.
Excellent presentation. I like overhead shots. I may use some of that idea myself. Also, thanks for the 240p vs 480p explanation on the phone. I will upload larger formats in the future.
Cheers, Bob
Hey Greg,
thanks much - this is an outstanding and excellent playing technic demonstration and tutorial. Fun to watch and makes me want to play immediately :)
Wow - I'm really impressed, cool stuff!
Excellent introduction to playing the Stick! Great that you do not go into details but rather keep the general perspective.
Thanks very much for posting this accessible lesson.
@tubulartom Hi Tommy, it's36"-scale laminated rosewood with Rails and the standard Stickup pickup. The tuning is the Baritone Melody tuning. Thanks for the interest. Happy Tapping, Greg
really nice information and playing, sir!
Great stuff Greg!
So inspiring. Now I want one. Thanks for the video.
Perfect video material and presentation! *********
@wukeduo Thanks, Ricardo. Give yourself some time. I was the lead singer in the first band I ever played Stick in, and I'm nowhere near the singer you are (which is why I let me audience of the hook and went instrumental)
Happy Tapping,
Greg
That was beyond amazing
Hey Greg, thanks for this video. Very clear, very simple, a good material for pedagogy. And the camera for the player's perspective is a super idea.
A bientôt

i have listen you in sarzana (italy) same years ago in a figer style-guitar event, you are a great musician!
Faaaantastic. So well done.
@karli34 Thanks much for watching and for the kind comment. It was fun to make as well.
@karli34 Thanks Ricardo. I have a lot to learn about making videos, but I enjoy it. There will be more in this series. Any constructive feedback would be great.
Happy Tapping
que buen video... saludos de Chile.
@balatruc Thanks, Olivier! more to come...
@tubulartom Thanks Tommy,
That would be "Here, There and Everywhere" a Beatles tune that I released on a CD called "Shapes" (now out of print) as a duet with drums. I suppose I should add the song titles as annotations to the video. Thanks for asking,
Greg
@superbassguitarboy This is the most basic model, a 10-string with the stock Stickup pickup. around $2,000.
There are other models, 8, 10 and 12 strings and with more expensive pickups as well. Pricing info is at the Stick website shown in the description of the video.
Happy Tapping!
@felipevaander Gracias, Felipe. Algún día voy a viajar a Chile. Saludos de E. U., Greg
@gregplaysthestick Greg, my name is Frank - sorry for not being Ricardo. Keep the videos coming anyway!

@karli34 Sorry for the mistake Frank. Thanks, again!
