I know it's a joke, but there's a cool detail about the mines that explain why they don't kill. If you pay close attention with the detective mode, the mines turn blue when enemied are in their radius, meaning that they turn non-lethal as a safety measure. I don't know if this is in the original version, i just noticed this in the Return to Arkham remaster.
