You know what Charlie I’m actually going through so much at the moment and been feeling quite down for the last few months. Every time I watch your videos It helps me a lot for some reason I find it therapeutic. Keep up the good work my friend.
Never had an interest in bricklaying before. Started watching your channel about a month ago. Now i find myself checking out brickwork every time im out and about FFS 🤦🏽♂️! Keep up the good work Charlie!
totally agree, hearing protection just isn't taken seriously, site managers don't care. the other day i saw a duct fitter cutting out old steel ductwork with a metal cutting circular saw, absolutely deafening sound. he had ear defenders attached to his hard hat but wouldn't put them on his ears. personally i think it's at least a yellow card
Could someone please tell me ... after he scrapes some excess mortar off when laying a brick, how does he decide between throwing the excess off back on the board or on the floor?
I am very curious; would you say, as a bricklayer, that you find there is a difference between the quality of bricks and the way they were laid, say, 100-years-ago, in comparison to the modern day? I find that old buildings, such as the ones in London, tend to have a real charm as to their brick-work in comparison to the very characterless modern buildings being dished out. I am curious as to your thoughts:)
There’s less detail in buildings now, say for like cities they used a lot of English bond, where as now it’s always stretcher just one on top of two. That’s why you might think that
there didnt used to be the large cavity for insulation 100 years ago, it was two skins of brick back to back. when built like this its easier to incorporate more detail into the building while staying structurally strong.
Hey Charlie...I'm interested to know why you lay a "bit", coming out of your internal Block corners? I am aware about getting to half bond but wouldn't a three quarter do the same thing? No doubt you would have to use the same size "bit" for an external as well. In NZ our internal walls are timber framing, so we wouldn't encounter what you do. Just interested Charlie really.
I’ve got the same weights. They are good however just make sure they’re properly locked it. I had it a couple of times where I’ve knocked them whilst pressing and one of the weights fell off right on my bonce.
I agree, I’m nearly fully deaf from the building sites, especially when I used the Hilti gun shooting L-ties into steel girders…and splitting blocks with a block hammer. Protect your hearing at all cost. Happy Halloween Charlie and crew.
I'm in the same boat mate, lost most of it in my mid 40's, I also have tinnitus as an added bonus.I wouldn't wish it on anybody. Protect your hearing and eyesight at all costs lads
@@MrThebigredone I feel your pain bud, a also have tinnitus, an impinged shoulder and I’m in my late 30s. Got out of the trade and went back to college to save my body from more damage. Hopefully the tinnitus subsides, for both our sakes!!
@@Bazz11 I got out myself and trained as a teacher, I will always love construction but for the toll it takes on the body, I couldn't recommend it as a career. I hope you find some relief too, take care
Would of save you a few quid taking home a few wet blocks home then buying that dumbbell plus you'll have a few nice dry blocks to lay with in the morning too 💪🤷♂️
Look we are on a job at the moment if you want to get rid of the mother in law , we could lose her in the massive cavity for you , without even her elbows sticking out
It looks like that Site is Using the Cheapest of shite Materials them wall ties are Terrible and Blocks ive never saw them in 23 Year of laying Bricks or Stone

Just wondering why some houses have internal concrete blocks and some have the thermalite ones ?
it's to do with load, how many floors high the building is
I love my splitter, best thing i bought in the last few years.
I remember watching you when had like 100 subs then it started kicking of good with Jim and Jordan and had 20k and now over a mil 😮
Could someone please tell me ... after he scrapes some excess mortar off when laying a brick, how does he decide between throwing the excess off back on the board or on the floor?
Keep the block underneath the end so you are cutting it level more often than not you get the 20mm cut off
Do you only do ‘pick and dip’ when you can get to the back to clear the snots?

Noisewise Charlie, tinnitus is a horrible condition! Protect your lugs and eyes, lads and lasses !
I been laying around 40 years never used a block cutter hearing is fine and always use quarter 3 quarter bond on quions quicker and less cutting
Hope the other trades that follow are as good

I’m no Charlie but I’d assume it’s to do with the length of the wall plus doors windows etc.

Good luck Charlie. The little witches black cat just walked passed you. It’s a good luck saying.
Mate can you send me a link for 40 kg weight? Looks sick
Morning Charlie boy, please be careful when slinging those 7nm blocks one handed. You will end up with tennis elbow if your not careful
Is that a 200mm cavity?

Say that again😂
You have a gorgeous daughter charlie
Bit weird mate
How's your misses cutting the bread you got the knife
Wots ammy cooking g for later .I do miss her really cocky voice xx
Nice one charlie
❤😓
Where did you get 50% hearing loss ?
Not only down to the building trade but think about night outs on the weekends and raves. Everything else combined with on site noise contributes
Going to clubs and raves is just as bad as using the sthil saw without hearing protection.
Betya glad to see the back of that board of compo? 🙄 Annoyed the siht out of me it did. 👍🏻✌🏻🇬🇧
Is Amy not working because of pregnancy?
the easy way to cut blocks is get someone else to do it lol
Come on Charlie tell everyone wats happening with Amy them blocks look ridiculously heavy
Can you say that again about loss of hearingI didn’t here you
