Akechi... you already saw that Shido had a contingency plan set up in anticipation of you betraying him, not to mention we know that he was fully aware of you being his son. The most likely endgame of your little plan was a bullet between your eyes.

@@yilgis8129 he stated before you fought him that he had a feeling that Aketchi was his kid, because he reminded him too much of his mom. He didn't fully know, but he was pretty sure about it.

Just saying "We might've been too hard on Ryuji" in Joker's head doesn't make up for beating him unconscious for saving your lives and leaving his body in front of the Diet Building, girls.
This just shows even Joker thought the girls were too hard on him
Calling it "beaten to unconscious" is a stretch considering how Ryuji's laid out pose is over the top with him slumping to even take seriously, it's the kind of comedic pose you see in other anime and games. It's not like they left him at Shinjuku where it's super seedy there.
Maybe they hugged him too hard his oxygen ran out and got unconscious.
I like to imagine that they just hugged him so hard he passed out

i truly feel with akechi during the first conversation. i get it, yusuke had horrible madarame to deal with BUT also had time to cope. yusuke turned that hate into acceptance. akechi on the other hand, had been hating shido for years compared to yusuke realized madarame’s crimes that day at the palace. shido has became an amalgamation of everything horrid in the world, and expecting him to have rationalized it and move on so soon is a little sudden. so in all honesty, i really take akechi’s side in the conversation. it really illuminates a very relatable and human side to him.
I'm more surprised he didn't agree with him. Shadow Shido is nothing less than hideous and gaudy, more like Madarame's palace.
Another thing to confirm this is that during your text messages after defeating Akechi, Yusuke states if it weren’t for the Phantom Thieves he might’ve ended up as Akechi...
Yusuke knew all along he just turned a blind eye, what he didn't know was that Madarame killed his mother.
@@unkoire2649 Yeah, I agree. Yusuke not only have time to deal with his traumas, he have a group of persons supporting him, and that also makes the difference.
Funny thing is, Goemon is the closest thing we have to a real-life Robin Hood, which symbolises that Yusuke is a true hero while Goro's a fraud.

What's interesting about the Thieves' Den is that the people inside, the Thieves and the Confidants, are all cognitive beings based on Joker's perception. The fact that they're rather faithful to their real-life counterparts shows how deep their bond is with him, much like how the cognitive beings in Shido's Palace have deep ties to their leader. One thing that Joker and Shido share is their ability to have deep, meaningful connections with others for their own purposes.
I don't know about Shido, whilst it's true that his cognitions are likely based on real people yet at the same time, he sees them all wearing masks which projects a bit of cynicism with how he views people using masks to keep up appearances. Shido likely sees them for who they really are in a bad light, hence why he takes them in to use as tools.
Wouldn't call Shido's contacts meaningful, not the right word due to how he is willing to dispose of anyone who are a threat or outlive their usefulness.
The fact is that several of Shido's cognitive beings are also Shadows of the same people in real life, which means that those people do mean quite a lot to him in terms of usefulness. The strength of a bond doesn't necessarily have to be out of friendship so much as Shido needs their connections and skills to make his desires a reality.
So the thieves den is joker's "palace" and if that is so, what's his treasure?

I never realized how much of a dynamic Akechi and Yusuke have. For one, I sometimes noticed Yusuke mentions (somewhere in the game, I think in chat?) that he would have turned out the same way as Akechi did if it were not for the Phantom Thieves. And then for Akechi, at some point, he mentions "if only we had met earlier" to them, or at least, to Joker.
And its so interesting because if you do think about it hard enough, they both could have walked the same path. Yusuke's story shows how being helped by others made him the "good" person he is, whereas Akechi is somehow the bad ending or outcome because he had no one help him when he was young, making him the "bad" guy he is.
I'd like to believe that if Yusuke and Akechi interacted together alone, before or during the Shido's palace arc, he would have been one of the people who would have caught on and understood Akechi's hatred towards Shido before the others did.

It's cool we got Yoshida and Sojiro's thoughts on Shido as Sojiro knew him back in the day as would Yoshida. Although I was hoping that Ohya and Haru would give their thoughts too as it's because of Shido that Ohya's friend got framed for murder and went comatose whilst Haru's father being disposed of on live TV to frame the Thieves.

I feel like morgana is the only person who talked to akechi like a person despite knowing what he did he talks to him the way he would joker.I always liked that and he a velvet room attendant so he probably feels responsible for him
It is interesting wgen their talking together there’s little hostility between them and in fact they kinda tend to wax philosophical a bit during their coversations.
I feel like if akechi survived and was integrated into the phantom thieves for real, he'd probably get along with morgana second best, after joker of course

That could have multiple layers to it, he could be thinking of Wakaba, maybe Futaba too, he could be thinking of Joker, and how his reputation as a criminal will likely stay with him the rest of his life, or he could be thinking about Akechi, and how Shido made him grow up to be who he is, he could even be thinking about Haru, and how her dad died ultimately because of Shido, even if it was Akechi who actually did it
On the bright side. Atleast they feel bad about beating up ryuji.

I have to agree with Akechi in the 1st convo, wile yes Yusuke did go threw some shit, Madarame never got him to kill anyone nor did he try to kill Yusuke. Wile what Yusuke went threw was rough he had time to get over it and had friends to sport him wile Akechi was alone. Yusuke also had someone to look after him (even if it was Madarame) were as akechi just went from Foster home to Foster home so u can imagine why he'd hate Shido so much especially since he put in no effort to help him and his mum
Ironically the lion which Shido rides seems like Envy from FMA real form.
Intense opening talk. Also liked Yoshida & Sojiro's.
The girls recognizing Ryuji's key part & feeling bad over their attack was nice too.

You know how in Tycoon everyone has a few lines when someone plays a super high card after a low one was played? Like how Ryuji says "Welp I'm screwed"? You think you can make a video with all those remarks? :)

Very late, but I can't help point out how Yusuke is in the wrong in that first conversation. You think he'd be more open to Akechi's perspective on Shido after Madarame. And put bluntly, Yusuke went through nothing compared to Akechi it seems like Yusuke is just saying that to get on Akechi's nerves. He doesn't know at all.
The versions that we see in the Thieve's Den aren't real of course, but Joker's perception of them. Joker seeing them as 'unable to get along' is all you can really take from this. I just don't think the real Yusuke would have that line of thinking. It just seems like scripted confrontationalism. Doesn't seem natural after all he's grown at that point in the story.
It's just a reminder that these convo's aren't canon, I guess.
It's honestly uncommon for ATLUS to develop mighty villains without giving hints on their past lives. Strega from P3 and the Culprit from P4 I can totally get, but I wish we could speculate more about Shido. He is, after all, quite literally the reason of everything bad in Persona 5.

At least they finally acknowledged they beat up Ryuji too badly and just left him there like ungrateful bastards was finally addressed. They should've apologized to him or else they'd get either arrested or grounded for assaulting someone who risked his life to save them from death.
"I hate to admit it but he was tough.." What are you talking about ? Easiest boss in the game. Really anticlimactic, all that running around in the palace, searching for invitations, doing silly side quests, to face a boss that lasts 30 seconds? Was playing with a friend and he said : " don´t worry this is just a preview of the real fight.." Nope, that was it.
