I had the pleasure of working the show. Electrics and Automation. Few would ever realise how much and how much heavy set was under control to get the those scenes. Deb and Hugh were just amazing. Electrifying. Have worked on a tons of shows and THAT was just superb. Such a pity the costs to run it meant it was hard to keep financial when it didn't catch the audience it deserved.
I knew crew on the LA production and I work in Entertainment. I knw EXACTLY what you had to do on this show. Lifting Artie's apartment above Norma's home was one of the most amazing, high gear and probably dangerous things I've ever seen on a live set. I've seen this show five times. We had the wanker guard gate that "made" you sign in every morning and every morning I signed in as "Norma Desmond". Never noticed once. Norma just breaks my heart and Hugh is a darling man.
@@mysteryminx2619 Norma is one of the most tragic characters ever brought to stage. I remember when doing Auto, it was literally a blessed relief to get through the" on the road sequence". So many cues, so much scenery and weight being shunted around at high speed. I miss it.
I saw it the first week it opened and it was amazing. I didn't know who to look at, Debra or Hugh. They are both outstanding performers that you could not take your eyes off them.
Whether he is singing, dancing or in a straight acting role Hugh always stays in character. He remains an accomplished actor and is incredibly true to his craft. Will he ever try some more classical stuff, I wonder?
I was fortunate enough to see 3 versions of Sunset Blvd - in Melbourne with Debra and Hugh, in New York with Glen Close and in London with Elaine Paige. Glen is just about to open in a new version of it in London.
Damn they're good! And the performance is so well captured by the camerawork and recording. Someone would've had to hide him under a basket in the Outback to prevent his becoming a star!
what an absolute shame that they never recorded an Australian Cast Album of Sunset with these leads. Especially seeing how Jackman's career has taken off, one would think this could've outsold the Patti Lupone and Glen Close soundracks combined. Perhaps Jackman could star in a movie version of Sunset?
Cats, sunset boulve, queen of pop, rebel, diamond in the rough..this women can do it all.As her battle with drugs and depression continue to haunt, she keeps rising to the challenge. A true Aussie through and through
Her Fantine was Cameron's absolute favourite, and there we're a heap of them. He put her on the full symphonic international recording, along with Quosty.
@JoshMich1985 Isn't it great seeing these gems again? I think you want to see the ones titled "Hugh Jackman in Disney's Beauty and the Beast as Gaston" (just before doing Sunset - very pophetic about how Hugh will one day conquer Broadway!) and "Hugh Jackman on Today Tonight (1997) ".

I worked on this too! Set- I gold leafed the staircase and painted the little portraits on the wall that follow the staircase up.. great times!
Deborah Byrne's voice is sublime!!
Very Beautiful Hugh Jackman ❤️

To think she was once the Queen of Pop way back when.
To think I remember watching her on Swallow’s Juniors befor it became Brian and The Juniors
It was a phenomenal show....

+chernjam He's far too old now to play Joe.
well if they can cast Glenn Close again as Norma... :)
I've been looking for this forever! Thanks for posting. He is SO young in this clip! :)

This production of Sunset Boulevard was in 1996, before Hugh did Oklahoma! in 1998
I love Hugh´s singign but can we just appreciate his dancing for a second? The inly thing he can´t do is getting pregnant!!
