Can you imagine how many amazing moments we would have had had he not been fired so soon? This is the dota commentator equivalent of mozart dying at the age of 35
This guy was just plain funny... I wish people would stop trying to turn Esports into something it's not by removing personalities like this from the scene
I yearn for the day where 'Professional' no longer means wearing a suit, sitting in a semi-circle facing a camera and talking laboriously at length about the provided subject matter and nothing but the provided subject matter until the end of the so-called festivities at which point the show ends with some trite musical outro. Professional only means paid to do it. Being professional should only mean doing a good job, not doing the job a specific way. The amount of preparation and work James put into this was professional quality, he acted as a professional in the face of a completely inept production team. Let the audience dictate if they want him there or not, dont just fire him before the viewers have voted with their feet.
+Bunnies Kitties I don't mind a lot of the stuff he did, but where it suffers is when he does it at the behest of the games he's supposed to cast. I'm at 25 minutes in and he's talked over two interviews and a draft. I know this is a cherry-pick video of this event's fails, but that's still pretty bad. Especially since for the draft at least he admits it's because he got too distracted mucking around and wasn't paying attention to the feed he was paid to monitor.
@@geneparmesan8748 Rewatching this yet again, so I might be 5 years late in the defense, but only reason why he talks over things is because the correct mics cut out and he's trying to avoid dead air. Often the interviews would not have translation of any type or the mic would be dead. During games and interviews you could sometimes hear production screaming because they had no idea how to mute/unmute mics. Angles wouldn't change during desk sections, and the desk area was a joke. There weren't computers of any kind of comprehension of how to swap to game footage or highlights. Often the commentators and desk would not have eaten or slept in forever because of how the production was so behind. 2GD was sacked as a peace offering with Perfect World, because he was a symptom of a problem their production created and it was a political move by Valve not to look complicity in shaming their botching of the event. If you need any more evidence, look at James at Dreamhack, the GD Studio casts, or even prior DotA Internationals. He says things that are slightly off-colour occasionally(that was actually his persona from Quake as well, he's hired to do that), but he isn't trying to kill dead air with a piece of chart paper for 5+ hours at a time in those broadcasts and he can actually be a more standard host when things are serious. The difference is that the Shanghai Major was a joke and an embarassment, and it was even worse for the players, we just didn't see it.
Swindles: After this lan, NA and SEA are gonna be considered the strongest regions *everyone pauses* James: uhmm... Delusional. hahahaha!... haha!.... ha... oh right, RIP JAMES! :(
Дмитрий Сусов No shit! and the audience gives the MVP to w33 and EE, not that they don't deserve it, it's just PLD deserves it more than them. James kept flaming him because he played Silencer way back in the day and he just keeps getting caught when all he had to do was press global silence.
Six years later and this hosting is still the best out there in the history of the Dota 2 pro scene. James could have been more professional, sure but, we cannot deny he is brilliantly funny. He singlehandedly made Shanghai Major watchable as a live event. Wish there is a redemption arc for James in today's pro scene.
James saved this event and production so hard with the air time he got. It's a joke if he doesn't even get payed by Valve, which is likely. Get ur head out of ur ass Gabe..
i think they just fired James because he put the shitty stream on blast and made Valve look like morons for having this shit happen. its not the host that was the issue it was the fact we couldnt watch dota during a dota tournament
+Roman Horaiskyi It makes for a really entertaining panel though. Russian panel is like 5 friends getting together(which is mostly true, since PGG, Smile, NS, Jotm and LightOfHeaven used to play with each other or at least against each other for a loong time, and the commentators like V1lat and Casperr are really well known by players, especially guys like NS, PGG and Lost) and discussing Dota while not pulling any punches, kinda like the 2GD panel. And I personally love it. Ever since they fired 2GD I've been watching only Russian analysts(while still enjoying english commentary of ODPixel, Tobi, Cap etc.). Because as much as I enjoy watching both Sheever and KOTLGuy run their panels there still is this tension after the firing of 2GD that makes all of these guys choose their words a lot more carefully then they probably should, imo P.S. There is a couple of weird running gags in russian hub, but it's still entertaining, and that's what matters the most.
Thank you very much for this compilation. I was out of the loop and I love that you compiled all the great moments so I can see for myself how Gabe made a mistake firing 2GD.
I love how James take the blame for the fuck up which was this tourne. The production level was terrible with a lack of communication and a lot of air time. James had to fill it with something. Also worth adding is that James has plenty of experience which is well documented, Valve knew exactly what type of guy he is.
WAIT THERES A SECRET TO WHY JAMES GOT FIRED. Here me out here. James has been training for a while. He's reached 2GD level and hosting this major would give me power. Enough power to evolve into James 3GD. It all makes sense. Gabe saw this and fired him so he could stay at 2. Dota stays at 2 half life stays at 3. Therefore James must stay at 3. Damn you wizard Gaben I see your tricks
So... Where's the terrible stuff? Did you leave it out or what? I've heard and seen more disrespectful behaviour and below the line jokes in the past. Have people just lost their sense of humor and are content with that situation?
+h4z31nut He wasn't professional. He wasn't a good host, lots of dead air, doesn't stir up much discussion, doesn't really know the players/teams that well, and makes some really over the line jokes. He's the host of a major tournament. Just not the place for a lot of his masturbation jokes, cursing (called someone a cunt on air), and other crude behavior. I really think Valve had the right idea firing it, but I do not agree with the way they did it.
+Ryan Hollenshead He had a lot of "dead air" because there were hour long pauses because of failing equipment, because he had no highlights available and because the whole production sucked shit big time. Plus tell me the "over the line" jokes from him only - the whole scene is like this. Not only streams, but also the panels in every tournaments had this - and dear god, look at the Russian scene (which is the biggest in terms of viewers = the most money) where if you find ONE analyst who doesn't make jokes about assholes, farting or whatever you could claim jackpot.
I miss Yames, but one of the best parts of this is when he is ripping on Envy, and flat out says they aren't going to win the tournament 100% because of him. Fast forward to end of tournament, they won 100% because of him.
"we all know I'm done after this event anyway" what a prophet
Can you imagine how many amazing moments we would have had had he not been fired so soon? This is the dota commentator equivalent of mozart dying at the age of 35
True that he is really really talented at entertaining
And he’s back bitch
and this was more entertaining than half of games gg Gaben
This guy is hilarious. Was so disappointed when I heard he was fired.
I mean just look at them, how much good time they are having, unlike the following days where everything is just...ughh...
did you saw ti10?
mr wangs amazing wheelchair antics... never forget
"They're all waiting to die"
God, if 2GD isn't in TI6 there's no reason at all to watch it.

alex zannettou it was somewhere near the end i think?? I can't remember, just watch the whole thing you'll laugh your ass off.

Also, flaming PieLieDie. The guy is playing out of his mind right now on his Lion.

ay bro what if
@@niv2500 ikr. what if... hmmm.
HES BACK!!!
People had more fun watching 2 days of 2GD than the entire tournament
Facking Gaben
I would give up my last pair of underpants to here James commenting on Secret wining
100% the Yames the community wanted to see the return of. Shame Valve dropped the ball on this but it was good for one last time.
Revisiting this after eight years is so amazing!
James saved this event and production so hard with the air time he got. It's a joke if he doesn't even get payed by Valve, which is likely. Get ur head out of ur ass Gabe..
I'm not as hands-on as Richard Lewis. That's absolute gold.
i think they just fired James because he put the shitty stream on blast and made Valve look like morons for having this shit happen.
its not the host that was the issue it was the fact we couldnt watch dota during a dota tournament
its good gaben doesnt speak russian, or else the whole panel would be fired, and russian players woulb be banned from all valve sponsored tournaments
+Roman Horaiskyi
really? :D
give some examples
+Roman Horaiskyi Replace "good" with "too bad". Kek )
+Roman Horaiskyi Just few days ago Starcraft II duo Tastosis made 'balls deep' joke during GSL. These jokes just come and go. Nothing wrong with it.
+Roman Horaiskyi It makes for a really entertaining panel though. 22:06 after the long pause "delusional" that was epic 😂😂😂😂
he's right though. TL + wings ripping everyone
such a funny man, cant believe they fired him for this he was doing gods work
It’s 2022 and I really miss my man james
21:53 That one was the best imo.
I love James being entertaining at an event meant to entertain. The idea of taking games super, super serious is ridiculous.
I love how James take the blame for the fuck up which was this tourne. The production level was terrible with a lack of communication and a lot of air time. James had to fill it with something.
Also worth adding is that James has plenty of experience which is well documented, Valve knew exactly what type of guy he is.
10:30 "So we hve one D, and lack of growth.." xD
thanks XD
This is amazing, hilarious, and entertaining.
"we're not going to a break. i'm in charge of this show." lmao we need more of this dude
James is a natural at hosting, sure his humor is a tad crass at times. He is a funny guy, its a shame he was let go.
Man, I'm missing this now, 2gud was a funny guy.
welcome back
I don't know a single thing about Dota but this is the funniest thing I've seen in the last month
2gd is back again in dota scene
Anyone feel like when 2GD hosts it feels very natural? everyone seems to be very mellow and not uptight.
HAHAHAHA 30:00. And in the end Team Secret won XD.
TI11- 2022 2GD IS BACK YAY FINALLY
That whiteboard idea had so much potential if they bring it to TI. Too bad they let him go before he blossomed in the dota scene
omg man first 2 days of shanghai major was the best of all event man so funny is james i hope i see him again host some ti or major
This will be the most hilarious Major just because the 2GD event :D
We need this man to come back and host eSports tournaments. It's just not the same without him
I loved his awkward and quirky humor that threw off everyone on the panel. He had a unique style that made it entertaining.
