Have an awesome start of the year!!! ❤️ Being NeuroDivergent as well myself, some of the big reasons I love watching, (in addition to the cool content 😆,) is that I not only find your delivery and approach very relatable, but it’s like, “Hooray, a cool person to listen to, and we’re not ACTUALLY staring at each other!” 🤭🤭🤭
Loved the surprise Review Brah cameo in there. Also, I like that the carry case is entirely modular. I’d be unlikely to spring for a $200 box upfront, but I can see myself buying an $80 box, tossing in the little plastic boxes I use to store paints, and upgrading it over time. A bunch of great tips, thanks! There’s a cool coffee/tea shop near me with event/activity space in the back, I’ve been meaning to bring some minis there to work on them in public for the first time, might finally do that!
Hey! City slicker here! I have a TINY portable painting set up. It's a small tackle box that I bought from Blick(art store), with ArtBin printed on the side. Think I paid $20 for it. This thing holds enough paint and or glue, all your brushes, knifes, sculpting tools, and a small cutting mat to assemble any start collecting box for any one faction of any game. In most cases the assembled minis don't fit in it. But its hard to argue with its light weight and small size. I usually stuff it in my back pack and carry an empty amazon box with the wip minis. I do get peeps on public transit that peek into my box and start asking about stuff, but I don't mind too much.
I used to use a tool or tackle box for a long time when I was younger when I didn't have any really established preferences or workflows (or money of my own). I always appreciate the integrity wen you mention any biases you may have.
On the backpack note, have you looked at allplay's backpacks that they make for board games? The bags are 20" x 12" x 12", which looks like it would fit this at 9.64" x 9.25" x 15.35" according to there website. allplay have different tiers of their bags with different carrying types like a shoulder strap, wheels and a handle like a suitcase, and all of them come with backpack straps. I think this is kind of perfect! Hell, You might even be able to fit a small board game to one side of it with that little bit of extra room.
24:30 - Yep, them suggestions are golden. Been looking at this as well. My solution was 3rd printing parts to go together but that is a solution for me alone I reckon. This system would solve a lot that I had to make on my own to be sure.
Nice video Dana. It's been a while since I've watched one for some reason, but nice to be back. By the way, your page talking about your sponsorships etc is great. I really like the transparency and it really puts to bed any issues re recommendations etc. So close to the 100k!
As always, love the transparency in your content. I've had a Frontier Wargaming box for about 3 years now and love it, but there are definitely things about it I'd change. I find that less is more when it comes to portable set ups!
Almost my whole family are neurodivergent, my 2 sons and myself. Can therefore understand everything very well. Many thanks for your great video. Lots of ideas 💡 that I will soon be implementing.
Those mats are an example of european paper sizes being a neat design. Each type is numbered, and each number is half the size of the next number. This is why the smaller one is as tall in portrait as the bigger one is in landscape.
I like to just paint in my livingroom so for my entire setup I went with a make-up trolley! It's awesome to just roll it out and unstack it on my dinner table, turning it into a full sized hobby station in a matter of seconds.
Always love to see portable setups. Im using one of the Frontier Wargaming cases with some custom designed 3d printed drawers. Still looking for a good light tho. Thanks for the great level of transparency!
My portable painting kit is a 1650 Pelican case I jacked from work. Fits about 500 bottles/pots of paint, my airbrush and compressor and a large container with all my other tools, supplies and brushes. Being a Pelican case, its completely water tight and impact resistant. My plane could go down with all souls and my paints would have a good chance of making it out alive.
One of the bigger board game bags, like the kind from Allplay, would easily fit that case with plenty of extra room. Most of them can be worn like backpacks.
Thanks Dana I actually need a solution for my Son for both at home and going to friends houses and the warhammer store for painting sessions - If you took one side of the unit and made a thinned down door then it would fit into a Fjall Raven Kanken 17" laptop back pack. The Kanken is light, has a foam pad to soften it against your back and would make a super system with the second half being the storage part to keep at home.
I haven’t tried it outside the house but my Monument hobbies evo bag is sooo good. I have it filled with paints and you can still fit lots of other stuff. So good and its a bag with a strap so it’s way easier to carry.
I mean, if you don’t mind the odd large mouth bass embossed on your kit you can find a lot of comparatively cheap kit in the Fishing section of your local superstore.
Awesome video. Maybe they could split it horizontally but make it in a way, possibly with clips and magnets where if you buy two it forms the large one. Thus offering flexible options depending on usage and destination.
I use one of the Monument Hobbies Go Bag Evos and I love it. Blacksite Studio makes and MDF storage rack that can hold minis compatible with the bag. It's a great and easy setup
Oooh, I did something like this to carry my paints up from the basement in the evening, to paint in the living room when the kids are in bed. I put the whole thing in a big metal pilots case to keep it safe, but would live to build something more like the toy repairer's case in toy story 2 that collapses out to reveal all sorts of compartments.
I've been using hobby zones desktop setup for a couple of years now and quite happy with it. A couple of drawbacks are the longterm durability of the mdf. While cleaning I dropped one about 15-20cm on the desktop and the mdf was damaged. This has withheld me from buying the portable kit from them actually. I am really interested to see how it holds up long term. Another drowback is, since the drawers are glued on the edges and you open it in the middle, with time the fronts of the drawers will come loose and have to be reglued. But this is really minor. Thank you for the great review!
Dont worry dana, im exactly like you in many ways, my mind races sometimes but neurodiversity can be used as a benefit when you can hyper focus on things , love all your videos, hope you and yours have a healthy, happy and prosperous New year 😊
The 'Thunderbird 2' Suggestions are an excellent call, I would say that Hobby Zone are missing a trick if they do not take these suggestions on board as the amount of work involved in designing/tooling these would be minimal and I would see the potential benefits both for customers and the company being exponentially greater than the cost outlay. The Backpack idea is also great but as you pointed out with the wet pallet, this is not really in Hobby Zones core product range and I would not imagine the cost/benefit being there for them. Maybe something a 3rd party creator could address after all that is what Etsy is supposed to be for (rather than Wish/Temu/AliExpress resellers). Great review and I would definitely be on board with buying a smaller version - which knowing me would lead to me buying everything. Happy New Year
I would personally like this kit if I could purchase like a frame/wheel kit to turn it into a wheelbag. I know it would need to be an external frame specifically so the horizontal forces don't pull the kit apart.
Im using a makeup case to store my paints. 1 it limitthe amouth of paint I'm buying, 2 it's always ready to go, 3 there's even space for my paint brushes and 4 it's super cheap
I work in a job where i have a lot of free time. I use the Monument Go bag and bring it with me. If the option in this video seems a bit too much/heavy id recommend the go bag.
Thanks for the transparency, it wasn't needed to this detail but it shows how dedicated you are to earning your viewers trust.
Have an awesome start of the year!!! ❤️

Oh I feel that 😂
Thank you for labeling your free stuff and biases, it's a breath of fresh air and integrity in these murky times!

wow miniscape being cameod in a dana howl video!!! two of my favorites 🥹🥹
Great review Dana, I can see this being very useful for people living in apartments and the like too. Thanks for the video.

Maybe one of those little fold out wheeled racks to strap the big kit to? You could then just roll it along while walking some place.
I have had Hobby Zone paint racks for some years now and have loved them. I need to expand my setup still but they make some quality products

I agree on the smaller version!

I prefer to say procured rather than jacked😂
Great choice if you plan visiting warzones/trenches for inspiration for your well...army, but notbest option in price departament 😅

Dolarama plastic boxes FTW! :)
This is so timely 👏 thank you for your tips 🙏
Very nice! 👍👍
No pale sand in the paint list? 😢
I suitcase handle and wheels could work for the larger one too potentially. Though that may make it slightly larger to make room for it.

Nice review and summary! I am working on something like that on my own
I use one of the Monument Hobbies Go Bag Evos and I love it. Blacksite Studio makes and MDF storage rack that can hold minis compatible with the bag. It's a great and easy setup
Nice useful video, thanks for that Dana.
Thanks Dana, Happy New Year

If you use wood glue the mdf should break in half before the glue give out.

Nice Windows96 vinyl in the back
Dana, i hope that, someday soon, you receive a review copy cookiee tin.
If only 😍😍😍
Love the eubicquadis shortbread cookie tin. I'm going to guess there are no sewing supplies contained within.
What if hobby zone put wheels on the case. Either clip on or can fold away
Hi. For future issues with the weights of things, can we see comparisons to the 🐕 bears? 👉👈
The cardboard box I use is exactly like the one you got your kit in 😂
Did you see the Omni4 printable cases?
Tacky glue is pretty much just PVA, just a bit thicker.
Hey, just wanted to let you know that the image links in the gallery on your website appear to not work! Love your Orks btw! They are so pretty.
Im using a makeup case to store my paints. 1 it limitthe amouth of paint I'm buying, 2 it's always ready to go, 3 there's even space for my paint brushes and 4 it's super cheap
i am proud to announce that i looked and looked and finally found what brand of hummus that was. has been bugging me for ages. now i know peace.
I'm guessing the wood glue is just a water barrier
I work in a job where i have a lot of free time. I use the Monument Go bag and bring it with me. If the option in this video seems a bit too much/heavy id recommend the go bag.
hair looks great dana! happy new year!
Ahhh a Canadian showing off the wealth of natural beauty they have 😂
Canadian pennies in the year 2025?? A girl after my own heart! /jk (I'm a coin collector (for americans we discontinued the penny in 2012))
I bought this hummus container myself. We get it, you’re rich.
Nice try, but we know you’re really a shill for Big Hummus.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
I hate the way you say squarespace. It really is cringy/annoying. Good video otherwise.
