@Sayre Joseph try a macaroni wrap!!! will blow your mind!!!
Don't hide your eyebrows! Your eyes are so expressive they could win an Oscar! They make your stories all the more compelling. Really.
I'm from Canada & yes.....it might be colder in the winter, but the taps aff happens here just the same. As soon as it get's past 13ºC, people are out in shorts & tank tops. It might need to go north of 18ºC before you start seeing actual taps aff......but I understand completely! A couple of weeks ago - in the middle of March - it hit about 15º. We were up at our cottage for the day. Lake still completely frozen over & there were still patches of snow on the ground, but the sun was shining & it was a gorgeous day. I was raking out the gardens. Off came the sweatshirt......the pant legs got rolled up.....and spent the rest of the afternoon drinking in the sun....... both literally & figuratively :D
Oh man, 13 degrees is actual taps AFF weather if it's sunny. You'd see topless men everywhere 😂
I completly agree! We get our first sunburn of the year ahah
I loved the guy I met who described haggis as being a sausage with “the tubes, the lights and the dangly parts plus oatmeal and black pepper” !
I need to try haggis sounds delicious 😋
@@catchyname5403
I hope that you may have tasted it by now. It is delicious, imho.
This Scots great-gran loves haggis, with the traditional bashed neeps and tatties!
My respect to those who understand this girl without the subtitles
The subtitles don't even understand me, soz
@@ErinsHoose yes you are right 😜
I understand 99% of what she says.
@@flawyerlawyertv7454 you are a legend
@@ErinsHoose Oh wow, how could they not? I understand you perfectly and I'm Swedish :D
You forgot about well fired rolls and being Scottish we chuck anything on a roll pot noodles or Scotch Pie bung it in a roll 😂 I remember I went to my local bakers in Perth for a pie roll and there was some tourists in and they looked at me all shocked and confused
We got Morcilla, which is pig intestine, filled with rice and blood and spices (cooked).
Yes, please. More on Scottish tweets.
My time in Glasgow has fully ruined me for Texas weather, which I already hated six months of the year. It was 26 Celsius here in Dallas and I was sweating in jeans and you see folks in hoodies 😑. I don’t go outside in Texas summers lol. I must admit I don’t understand the carb on carb macaroni pie... love greggs tho.
There is nothing wrong with your eyebrows. They are part of what makes you so expressive. You are lovely.
Most charming accent I've EVER heard in my life
I just subscribed in honor of my American 4-year old grand-daughter who is enamored by unicorns (your national animal). I started watching your pronunciation videos because I am a proud American-Scot. One of my life's thrills was touring "my" castle in Dunvegan, and signing the "MacLeod-only" guest register.
Thanks for subscribing!
We enjoyed The Abbey, in Edinburgh, several times when we were there. Good food, good people, good Whiskey!
First time my dad and I were in the uk, we ordered a full breakfast, we read it included "black pudding" we were very confused, couldn't figure out what it would've been. (Where I'm from, pudding = custard). Until I googled it after we finished... bit of a shock😂😂😂 (not gonna lie, I love it)
You are without a doubt, a funny hen, witty and energetic. It's refreshing, really. Smiles per minute on my end are often quite high watching your uploads. CDN fella, older and in love with my heritage. Thank ye!
Nice to hear another McKay doin good in the world, doin the clan proud, Tommy McKay
1:18 - I thought the national animal was Haggis Scotticus? 1:25 - Out of the mouths of babes....
2:47 - That's all basically a Scottish yarn to reduce exporting of the national delicacy to places like America.
Great video! 😂 My husband visited Scotland for work several years ago (I didn't get to go sadly) Anyhow, he asked a bunch of locals where the best local food was, several times in different towns and everyone responded TGI Fridays 🤣 we we're both baffled. Thank goodness for Yelp and food blogger's
I don't think the macaroni pie is weird, honestly. Seems like a great thing to do with mac&cheese to me! In America we will put mac&cheese on a burger, or even fry it.
Speaking of which, I don't think frying Mars bars is weird either -- in fact, I've known deep fried candy bars as "fair food" for a long time (as in food you find at a county fair, where they have carnival rides and farm animals and all that other bullsh*t). We will fry any goddamn thing at the fair, candy bars are just the start. Seriously, look up deep fried butter and deep fried Coke. You wouldn't even think you could fry those things, but we found a way by golly.
Taps aff, skin red raw from either sun and/or ice burn
In Colorado, I seek the sun in the cold days too. I get a little seasonal depression if I don’t get some sun. Thankfully here we get a lot of sun but it can be too cold to sit outside. I am able to sit in a little spot in the kitchen to catch the rays. If there is no wind and it’s above 40 F, I will sit outside if I can. We are having a couple hot days right now and it has gotten up to 70 F, which in the summer will seem cool but now seems almost too hot because one is not used to it yet. Spring here is like a menopausal woman with hot flashes!
That is definite taps aff weather!
I know what you mean about the weather and how you acclimate to your area. Here in SoCal when it’s about 12° I for sure start to bundle up. When it’s 7° I’m wearing layers of clothing, coat, gloves & a beanie. 🤣
I was supposed to be in Edinburgh last May and had every intent to swing by Gregg's. I think you had a video where you said they have the best sausage roll? Am a sucker for a good savory pastry. Fingers crossed for the borders to reopen someday, I want to go island hopping with macbackpackers!
Me, too -- Erin and Wee Scottish Lass Mosco have me wanting to stop by Greggs's when I finally make it to Scotland.
Scottish twitter is just brilliant. Great video Erin!
Thank you!
Good to see you back
Was listening tp bagpipes yesterday, because of you 😂🎶😂🎶😂♥️
I subscribed to the Red Hot Chili Pipers because of Erin. That could be dangerous.
I remember my parents commenting about the sun bathing thing when they came back from their trip to the UK
Ever had a chezey beno wrap
BTW I did not know about Gregs one
Wrap put beans on it grate cheddar on it wrap it put in a gorge forman grill
So macaroni pie is a Scottish thing!?! That makes so much sense to me now!! My Great Grandma (Great Grandaddy was a Scot) made macaroni pie...most people have no idea what I'm talking about when I mention it .
Amazing as always Erin ❤️❤️🏴🏴
Hiya ! Just found you posted this new video. Happy to see you.
In Wisconsin, 13 C is jackets off for me. My melting point is 25-27 C. I think I'd love Scottish weather.
First hope ur uni stuff and ur new flat is going well! Love ur videos, so good to hear someone with my accent doing well on UA-cam. Now I have a craving for a macaroni pie, not had one for ages!
About the heat/warmth, I get it. In Sweden, it's a different kind than in, for example, Tarragona (Spain). Even if it's 10, 20 or 30 degrees (celsius) it's not at all the same kind. I don't think it's much of a difference between London and the west coast of Sweden where I'm from though. When I have a chance to go to Scotland it'll be fun to see what I think the difference is.
This has to be the funniest video you have ever made. I can totally relate about the weather, that is so relative to where a preson lives and what they are used too. You shook make a video about Scotch Whisky, like tour a distillery. Keep up the good work!!!
Great vid.
Hi beautycreep I always enjoy Watching your Amazing videos. I look forward to seeing New Videos of you.
And sometimes we even have chips with the macaroni pie (because that was obviously not enough carbs!)
Thanks for the weather moan haha, loved it!
I could easily do a whole weather moan video ahahah v passionate about it
Really enjoyed this! That macaroni pie looks delicious! Loved the humour in this too! Another video like this would be great! Also, hope your writing is going well! Thanks Erin!
Thanks Zen!
I’m Canadian and I wish I could eat haggis ‘n lorne every day
Here in Indianapolis I would guess that the vast majority of us are an exact match for that tweet! (it was very funny btw, I definitely laughed when I read it) But I have noticed from some of your videos that I was pronouncing it very wrong, so while I can't promise to try out Skillshare I will at least work on saying Glesga.
How swearing has just.... become a second dialect hahahaha 🏴❤
Macaroni pies are sold in Lochgilphead, plus MANY other fillings
A Glasgow girl told me she put a pie in her soup 🍲
You can get a Macaroni pie in any good bakery, maybe that's why Greggs dropped them.
I really like your animated eyebrows.
Makes me sad that you don't use the proper name for blackpudding which is marag dhubh
Very interesting to say the least. Don't change a thing . You got it. What it is , is what you get.
Erin, love your channel and would love to visit Scotland one day since my Great grandparents on both sides of my family immigrated to the United States from Scotland. I grew up in California and can’t stand the cold weather there either, which limits when I might be able to visit Scotland. No, my true name is not Jimmy D’Nada. My last name is that of a Shire in North Scotland! I currently live on my sailboat in the Caribbean and from people I’ve talked to, I have about a five day window of survivable weather per year to visit. I’d appreciate your input since you actually live there.
Could your surname begin with S.
Nah taps aff in Ayrshire can be anywhere from 10 degrees!! This past weekend there's been hunners
People from outside Scotland think it's all bonnie hills but it's more like trainspotting
Och,....I have not have great Scottish cooking in long times,....I miss Scotland 🏴 so much
You can find macaroni pie sometimes in New Zealand but not often. It's so good!
I’m Lovin this video! Scottish Twitter is MAD! And yea stop feeding the national animal the wild hagis that’s in your garden LoL! Seriously I really want to try Haggis and a full Scottish.. maybe one day.. by the way you should definitely write some slam poetry 😂 I’m always buzzing when you upload a wee video 🏴👍
Thanks for the videos! They are so much better than Joel & Lia (England) and I love the way you handle the rude people's comments. You Rock!
🏴 Scotch morning roll with a flat sausage then can irn bru wash it down 😋
Wish I could try Gregg's macaroni pie now, hopefully it comes back!
That's why I saw lots of unicorns while playing Subway Surfers Edinburgh 2020.

Hi Erin, I think a brilliant video for you would be one of you and your pals enjoying the North Coast 500. I know you love the outdoors and our beautiful Scottish scenery. How amazing does that sound right now?
To reach more foreigners with Scottish cuisine, you're going to need McDonald's to introduce McHaggis and the Big Macaroni.
I'm jealous of your weather but I'm not sure how I'd deal with it long term. I live in AZ, USA and due to medical issues the heat makes me ill. I've lived here all my life and I'm tired of it. I loooove overcast and rainy weather and anything over 65 degrees sucks.
Well Scotland is the place for you Lass, you will love it there .
Portland,OR weather iz like they stole tha weather from Scotland most of the year.
I nestled peed my pants on “a honkin jobbie” one 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That glass cow is accurate. I cringe every time an American pronounces it that way
Awesome 👏
Whatever you're saying.. YES 😂❤
Not complaining, but that was too short. Back I’m the day, when I went to uni, the first late winter early spring day with a temp over 45F/7C the men were wearing shorts and the women were sunbathing. Miss PunnyPennie is a fun follow, but if she didn’t say what she wrote out, I’d be completely lost.
I heard that the question in Scotland is not what you want for breakfast but how you want your oats for breakfast, salty or sweet. Is that true or am I confused?
People joke about that, but it doesn't really matter
A lot of local bakery shops still sell the old Macaroni pies (Black's of Dunoon do them - among other weird foods - but I enjoy their "Scooby" - which is bacon, square sausage, potato scone and fired egg all loaded up on a roll
EDIT : Your eyebrows are fine - you're just an animated talker with an expressive face. You're definitely not one of those folks who can't even blink as they've got their faces pumped so full of botox that scientists in 65 billion years will think that it was a natural chemical in some people...
Yum! Aw I know haha, I was just joking :p
I luv how u said unicorns are real 😂 BTW I’m Scottish ano so a understand everything
I want the bridie back from greggs lol
I have dra wn the Canadian emblem theres a unicorn
Glass cow, Eeeeeeeeedin Borrow, LoCK Ness, OrkNAY, What part of England is Scotland in, Gai Lick, where's Lallybroch,......
Macaroni and cheese pie looks.......Delicious !
You forgot to mention how you call fizzy drinks and soda Juice. LOL
In your video you briefly show the Black Pudding as part of the “Scottish Breakfast”. I tried this dish one morning. Although plenty of food on the plate, hearty as it was, I found the items a bit eclectic. The baked beans were unseasoned, the grilled tomato was curious. The Black Pudding sausage was interesting. How did this collection of items come to be on one plate as a breakfast? Just curious. I enjoy your videos.
Hi Erin, First, I really enjoy your videos, you keep posting & I'll keep watching. Now, have you ever thought about doing a video about the largest Scottish population on Earth: Scottish-Americans! Did you know that there are more people of Scottish decent in the US than in Scotland? And, we have very unique ways of expressing pride in our ancestral homeland. For example, we invented Utility Kilts! If you don't know, these are a uniquely Scottish-American style casual kilt that some of us, like myself, wear all the time. We call ourselves "serial kilters". Every major city in the US has yearly highland games. We know our clans, our family history and some of us even study Scots Gaelic - An urrainn dhut gaelic a bhruidhinn? As I tell people when they ask about my kilt, "My arse may have been born in America, but my soul never left Scotland!" Anyway, just a thought... Alba gu bràth!
Lol the people saying "You wouldn't survive my country's weather" are just jealous they cant have perfect weather too
A guy from Glasgow told me about the "taps aff" phenomenon a few years ago, and it made me laugh to think of all these pasty guys walking around shirtless! I used to live in the Pacific Northwest, where the winter/spring climate is pretty similar to Scotland, and the same thing would always happen around April or May. You get ONE day where it's 60F and suddenly everyone's out sunbathing in bikinis!
A canny find this macaroni pie song anywhere! Geez a link eh?
Haha I literally just bought a year subscription for Skillshare. No idea what I want to do yet, all the things!
So. Many. Things.
I am going too make macaroni pie tomorrow :-)
so .. staying in a lodge near pitlochry in 2 weeks . the plan is..driving , fishing , photography ..... and nice food. any tips for places to visit ?
Bring back the macaroni pie...
Another great vid Erin. Haggis has never been a favourite of mine so I tend to avoid it but, I can take a bit of black pudding as long as it is from the chippy. Quick question for you....When I was your age and younger, (i'm 50 now), most women and girls didn't object to hearing themselves and other women being referred to as "burdz". Do women and girls these days object to that term? Maybe you could have a ginwag with your pals Amy and Steph and ask then what they think. Hope you are having a brilliant weekend.
Thank you! Can't speak for all women but personally I'm not a fan lol
"cuttin about" probably also needs explaining to some :-)
The unicorn as the national animal of Scotland, I think is the most confusing, and intriguing as well. As much as I want to understand it, I cannot imagine why, ...how mysterious! I have to know why.
Scotland has two animals. One is the unicorn and the other is the lion. Check out the Scottish royal banner and Scotland's coat of arms, the one with the Scottish yellow crest. Also it's King James IV of Scotland that gave England its lion; when he became King James the I of England and Ireland. Before then England use to have a Leopard.
No other animal was epic enough for Scotland.
I checked out Scotland's coat of arms and royal banner, I like the artwork that went into both. Thank you for the bit of Scottish history, now I want to know more, actually, I am interested in Scottish history, and I am always learning more. This makes me want learn more about King James. Big cats, scary... unicorns, not so much.
Scots are as epic as unicorns.
@@amirbehrooz3857 Yeas learn all you can about King James VI of Scotland and King James I of England and Ireland. His Mother was Mary Queen of Scotts. She was Catholic when Scotland just became Protestants because of that she fled to England. Also she wasn't there for most of King James' childhood. She was beheaded by Queen Elizabeth I first of England. Queen Elizabeth didn't have any kids so she made her 2 cousin King James VI of Scotland her heir to the English throne.
When King James became King James I of England and Ireland he had the King James Bible Commission because he hated the Geneva Bible.
" The Geneva Bible is one of the most historically significant translations of the Bible into English, preceding the King James Version by 51 years.[1] It was the primary Bible of 16th-century English Protestantism and was used by William Shakespeare,[2] Oliver Cromwell, John Knox, John Donne, and John Bunyan, author of The Pilgrim's Progress (1678).[3] It was one of the Bibles taken to America on the Mayflower. (Pilgrim Hall Museum has collected several Bibles of Mayflower passengers.) The Geneva Bible was used by many English Dissenters, and it was still respected by Oliver Cromwell's soldiers at the time of the English Civil War, in the booklet "Cromwell's Soldiers' Pocket Bible".[4]"
"In 1604, the year after he claimed the throne of England in 1603, King James I hosted and presided over a conference pertaining to matters religious, the Hampton Court Conference. While the Geneva Bible was the preferred Bible of Anglican and Puritan Protestants during the Elizabethan Age, King James I disliked the Geneva Bible and made his views clearly known at the conference: "I think that of all [English Bibles], that of Geneva is the worst." Apparently, his distaste for the Geneva Bible was not necessarily caused just by the translation of the text into English, but mostly the annotations in the margins. He felt strongly many of the annotations were "very partial, untrue, seditious, and savoring too much of dangerous and traitorous conceits..." In all likelihood, he saw the Geneva's interpretations of biblical passages as anti-clerical "republicanism", which could imply church hierarchy was unnecessary. Other passages appeared particularly seditious: notably references to monarchs as "tyrants".[10] It followed that the need for a king as head of church and state could be questioned also. James had been dealing with similar issues with the Presbyterian-Calvinist religious leaders back in Scotland, and he wanted none of the same controversies in England. Also, if annotations were in print, readers might believe these interpretations correct and fixed, making it more difficult to change his subjects' minds about the meanings of particular passages.
So when towards the end of the conference two Puritans suggested that a new translation of the Bible be produced to unify better the Anglican Church in England and Scotland, James embraced the idea. He could not only be rid of those inconvenient annotations, but he could have greater influence on the translation of the Bible as a whole. He commissioned and chartered a new translation of the Bible which would eventually become the most famous version of the Bible in the history of the English language. Officially known as the Authorized Version to be read in churches, the new Bible would come to bear his name as the so-called King James Bible or King James Version (KJV) elsewhere or casually. The first and early editions of the King James Bible from 1611 and the first few decades thereafter lack annotations, unlike nearly all editions of the Geneva Bible up until that time.[11] Initially, the King James Version did not sell well and competed with the Geneva Bible. Shortly after the first edition of the KJV, King James banned the printing of new editions of the Geneva Bible to further entrench his version. However, Robert Barker continued to print Geneva Bibles even after the ban, placing the spurious date of 1599 on new copies of Genevas which were actually printed circa 1616 to 1625.[12] Despite popular misconception, the Puritan Separatists or Pilgrim Fathers aboard the Mayflower in 1620 brought to North America copies of the Geneva Bible."
From Wikipedia
He was king of England when the first permanent English Colony of Virginia was founded. It had the the town of Jamestown named after him. The colony has the cash crop of tobacco. He wrote pamphlets to try to get people to stop smoking. Under his rein the Plymouth colony started. It had the Pilgrims. He had the first British flag made to show he was both king of England and Scotland; which many in Scotland hated. He wanted to unite England and Scotland into one Kingdom. With England becoming southern Great Britain and Scotland becoming northern Great Britain. The Scottish at the time like it but the English didn't because they didn't want to give up the name England. He kissed men in court and flirted with men. He could have been gay, bisexual or even pansexual, but most likely he wasn't straight; differently not heterosexual.
His son was King Charles I. He was beheaded by the puritans under there leader Oliver Cromwell. That started the English Civil war and led to the English Commonwealth. The first time all of Great Britain was united into one Nation and it was a republic; no monarchy.
So yes, learn all you can about King James the VI of Scotland and King Jame I of England and Ireland. He is one the people that help shape our world.
