    Story time!
    I went on a trip to San Antonio, Texas for band when I was in 8th grade, right around the time when Urza's Saga came out in 1998. The hotel we stayed at was attached to a shopping mall. My brother and I and a couple of his friends wandered around the mall until we eventually found a Babbages (now known as GameStop). We all went in to browse for video games, but I quickly noticed that they had some MTG product on the back wall of the store. In those days, the Tournament/Starter decks were all the rage, so I was excited to pick one up for $9.99+Tax using the money my parents had given me. It was at that moment that I noticed they had 4 sealed boxes of the Tournament Decks sitting on the bottom shelf. One box had a small white sticker on the side of it that read, "$9.99". In my mind, I was like, "Holy crap, wouldn't it be awesome if they sold me this box for 10 bucks!? Worst case scenario, they tell me that is the price per deck and I put it back." I walked up to the register, and this guy with long black hair, tattoos and a tongue piercing (who I assumed was in the MTG crowd) asked, "You want the whole box?" Immediately, my heart sank because I knew I wasn't getting the $9.99 price. With less excitement I said, "Yeah, I think so." He scanned the box and then said the most beautiful words I'd ever heard, despite his quite noticeable lisp, "That comes to $10.76". At that point, I reached my hand into my pocket, shaking. I pulled out my wallet and put 11 bucks on the desk, completely unable to speak. I grabbed the bag and my receipt and practically ran out of the store. My brother and his friends were still looking at video games and noticed me bolt out of the store, wondering if something was wrong. I showed them what I bought and what I'd just paid. They each went in and bought the remaining 3 boxes at the incredible low price of "Ten Theventy Thicth," words and I can still hear clearly in my mind 18 years later. We went back to the hotel room and opened every deck, laughing the entire time. That is by far my best MTG moment....good times...

I can see where he might of thought this content was boring, but I think its ORIGINAL. More of this please. Its really interesting.

    • @AlphaInvestments69
      @AlphaInvestments69  8 років тому +1

      I have, but individual cards beside original A/B/U anti/Leg/Arab most cards do not arouse me, and i would not find the time invested to be worth the potential reward, and i do not feel i could conclude with a high certainty the direction of any new card :-)

    Great reference piece for anybody looking to buy sealed, something no other channel has really looked into or had the ability to do so I'd presume.
    MTGHQ... The more counterfeit product he takes out of the market the better. His crappy click bait crap drums up all kind of interest in what not to do.

    Jeremy had the elliptic seal and the wrapper was thicker and looser, plus he had cut bar code as you already spotted. From what you showed us about the cut bar code, seems it's the wrong wrapper and that should've alarmed him that the box had been tempered with. Unfortunately Jeremy doesn't have your experience with these older boxes.

  • @TheEpicBandit
    @TheEpicBandit 8 років тому

    I enjoy your videos Rudy - I have some recommendations for future videos like this one.
    For clarity sake I think it's important to mention the seals of the most current boxes(all full seals) before the old. The reason for this is that I think there's a different, larger market of people that buy new product.
    For me I was worried for half the video about the state of a theros box, before you mentioned around the 16:00 minute mark that after world wake their is a seal standard.
    You're doing great with these videos, keep it up!

    Insightful stuff. I recently purchased a booster box from a different TCG. Sadly I notified the seller the box was resealed. Considering it was $1200, it hurts. Thankfully I got my money back but for some they don't check and months or years later its too late.

    Rudy, i find you as well as your videos intriguing. You are putting content and info that i think just wouldn't occur to most content posting outlets. You seem like the kind of guy that we could sit and bs about magic for hours and never get bored... You have a truly niche channel and im glad i got to be here from the beginning, im excited to see where you take your channel in the future, as i know its nowhere but up :) .. So without fan-girling out too much harder, thank you for taking the time to make these videos, thank you for giving us a look into your life, and your method. I think your videos are so good because you are sharing something that you are truly passionate about, and it comes through in your final product. Heres to the future, and whatever it may hold! --Chris, an avid mtg fan

    Even though this video might tip the hand to forgers as to what pros really look for, I'm glad someone is getting this information out to normal people in a clear, succinct way. I'm by no means an investor. I find your videos fascinating, but the truth is that, for me, they're not all that useful (but please take this as a roundabout compliment given that I still subscribed to your channel because of the quality of the content). Videos like this, on the other hand, are useful to both investors and normal players alike, something which is absolutely commendable.

    Been following you the last few months. AMAZING CHANNEL. And yes... IT WAS DESTINY. URZA"S DESTINY
    . Destiny packs are TIGHT. Thanks for the insight
    Just getting back into MTG. Now that Iam older and never owned a video game console after the PS2, I have an old nostalgia itch from my past. However brief it was.
    Antiquities, Unlimited, revised (only when Unlimited cards in NM aren't available) Alliances, and all 3 URZA's blocks are what I've been fondest of. Old cards. I wasn't around at the beginning. I quit MTG in 2000 after only playing in 6th grade bc i was too young to appreciate or really just understand the game. Only had like 2 friends that played it. Just getting back into it at age 29 as of 12/17/18. 4 days till I turn 30 XD.
    I've bought strictly reserve list singles from Card Kingdom, only in NM condition, and then booster packs of Alliance's and URZA's blocks from only established sellers on ebay. Ive been on ebay for over a decade, so quite attune on how to choose the right sellers. So far, every pack passes the eye test after a good WIGGLE AND TIGGLE. YES , I SAID WIGGLE AND TIGGLE.... Thanks for the term Rudy ; ) If they were repacked all this time when I go to sell them in 20+ years, so be it. I got them lying flat in Ziplock bags and stored in a cool dark place. People want the sealed product. You'll have it all - and ill have a
    LONG LIVE THE RESERVE LIST!! and S.W.A.G:
    Silver , Wine, Art, Gold... Not a wine drinker but its about tangible wealthy... and a little thing called: blockchain . IT IS why 5G is being ushered in. Giggity!

    That is one of my favorite games of all time, and I thought I was the only one who loved Parasite Eve. The first one in a masterpiece, and the second one is one the funnest games I've ever played. I beat it on every mode, and it was not easy! I love love love Parasite Eve! 😃

    Great video. You mentioned printing. I have a bunch of funny looking Antiquities cards that are very dark and very glossy to the point I thought they were fake. I did every single test on one of the commons, I have a printers magnifying eye piece.. even the rip test to see the blue line. Do you know of these extra glossy antiquities cards? I was pissed because I thought they were fake, but my testing says otherwise.

      i go by "feel" on antiquities and smell of the ink, but your antiquities sound good to me, glossier cards do not always mean fake
