Love it! I had a 67 f250 that I put a 390 with those same heads on it in high school that I built. My friends dad growing up was heavily into mustangs and I got the FE stuff and knowledge mostly from him. He had a 67 s code fast back with a 5 speed that I remember riding in. I remember him boiling the tires through third gear. Now he has a 67 with a 427 Fe tunnel port, and dual 4 barrels.
In 1972 I had a 65 Mustang with a rebuilt 390 and a C6, 9 inch 3:50 locker, rear leaf springs out of a 1/2-ton truck, some big Mickey Thompsons tires. To get the engine to fit removed the shock towers, installed a Ford Econoline van straight axle with boat trailer leaf springs. Installed a radiator out of a Chevy truck to keep it cool. Had a lot of power. Steering was unpredictable but the truck brakes worked great. When it shifted to second gear at full throttle the interior lights would always come on. Did not know why but found out when I noticed about a two-inch gap in the driver's door under full throttle. The body was flexing big time from the torque and the door light switch was turning on the interior light. 😨That was back when I was young, and I would not do these kinds of things now. But I probably would anyway.
I knew they had the 406 dual 4's that were rated 405 hp. Then the 406 tri power that were rated 401 hp. I never knew that they had a 390 that rated 401.
@@Mike583 yes they call it the 401 it came out in 1961 to hit Pontiac and Chrysler between their drag racing eyes as stated.... It's the first time Ford Mass produce motors over 400 horsepower..
I absolutely love, this car! Same color as the '67 I had. Mine also started out as a 6 cylinder, but I swapped in the 289 out of my '65 I wrecked. Mine had the black interior. And kept the 3 speed that was behind the 6, and I never broke it. Brings back such great memories.

< Got a 1964 high nickel FE 390, .060 over, built, in my 73 short bed 4X4. Drove it to work everyday and went mountain climbing, rock crawling on the weekends, never garaged, daily driver. Pretty dependable, lots of torque. Thanks for the video
Evan nails it on the Brittany Blue comment. And, the reason the C6-R heads are so hard to find is that I have all of them in my parts stash. LOL! Bitchin' car!

Another awesome video Evan! I didn't see the side marker lights, that were mandatory on '68 & newer? One year I was in the pits at Indy,we were listening to a guy that raced a 352. He said that everyone knew the 390 wouldn't run. Maybe he didn't know what he was talking about, or maybe at that time, they weren't competitive. It's always sad to learn,of someone passing away, that was into racing Fords like he was. My condolences to his family & friends. ❤
The 390 hp's came with a 780 cfm Holly and a Ford part number stamped on the air horn,, swapping the cast iron intake for an aluminum saves 50 lbs difference
He should take the stick shift Mustang to some 1/8th mile no prep race's for real! He said he's in 4th gear by the 330' mark, so yeah another 330' to the 1/8th mile he's probably topped out by then so he might do pretty good? However he'd be up against turbo and nitrous car's, some big blocks as well so he might wanna throw some nitrous at it, get it to hook on a no prep surface and he could do well! No prep is where the money is these day's! The car in this video is absolutely beautiful, coming from a die hard Chevy guy, that's a nice Mustang, would love to own it.

Cool stuff, but "Stock" is far from stock once you can substitute aftermarket heads/intake/etc. Since NHRA started releasing CC rules I can only assume that porting is legal now so long as it measures correctly and the port work is masked.
The original stock parts are getting harder & harder to find & cost prohibitive. If they insisted on making you use the stock parts, you wouldn't see these claasic engines at the track anymore, because no world could afford to trade them.
