One problem that noone discussed is the associated crimes that can arise in charging stations where people has to wait for an hour. This will be an issue in highways, especially for lady drivers.
What I feel is that government should have promoted hybrids in the first stage, EVs should be fist introduced as taxi's.

    I have two questions:
    1. Why isn't the government pushing car manufacturers to create more strong hybrid cars (petrol/diesel + electric generator)?
    2. Why are hybrid cars taxed so heavily?
I believe hybrids are a good compromise for better fuel efficiency and reduced pollution. In city traffic (stop-and-go), they would be more efficient than pure internal combustion engine (ICE) cars.

It is because hybrid cars are being mainly manufactured by Japanese company Toyota and Indian purely EV manufacturers restrict govt from giving any subsidy to them because foreign company mainly will be benefited. That will go against the make in India concept.
now some Domestic companies also are focusing on hybrid like M&M but they are very far yet in the race.

EVs will only succeed if and when Maruti, Honda and Toyota launch their EVs made for India. The other option is Chinese companies entering the market either alone or in partnership with an Indian company. The reason I say this is that EV tech is changing rapidly and is becoming cheaper. But Tata and Mahindra are using costly outdated tech from China and are forcing Indian consumers to bear the cost. They're r&d is only focused on providing cosmetic tune ups to their trucks and tractors which have been converted to cars. So if EVs are to succeed in India, the real car companies will have to step in.

My 1.5 yr experience with Ioniq 5 EV: Range is > 500 kms and good enough . It provides home charger and a portable 16 A power plug compatible plug in charger that takes care of emergencies too. Non availability of super chargers anywhere that can charge fully in half hour is a little concerning on long route . But , if provision exists in the house in parking place , charging is very convenient . It takes 6-8 hrs overnight to fully charge ( much less time if charged before full discharge ) 72 KWHr battery .
Cost per km is usually Re1 to 1.25 /km if charged at home .
Hidden cost is that of expensive tyres ( Rs 55000 x 4) that need replacement at 50000-60000 kms or 4/5 yrs , whichever earlier . Almost Re4/km cost . Tyres being special are not easily available in free market . Any burst or flat tyre replacement takes a long time .
Its ADAS and assisted safety systems for collision avoidance are extremely good , without disturbance in normal driving .
Concerns are 1) non availability of Stepney 2) RSA though provided by Hyundai , not being so good 3) Non availability of competent repairers locally and missing expertise even in authorised centres . 4) What if the car remains submerged knee deep water in heavy rains . Battery is at bottom . Ground clearance is low . 5) Battery replacement cost is exorbitant and unspecified for India . Could be unbearable 2/3rd price of car or so ( unknown) as per unreliable internet information ; who bears it if not covered in warranty or insurance , if it is due to damage on big speed breaker or in a pit or on off roading or sbmerged in water > 1/2 meter for > half hour ? No clarity on conditions . What if it needs replacement after 8 yrs of warranty . No after market or free market repair/availability 5) No provision of extended warranty on Battery beyond 8 yrs and extended warranty on other parts beyond 5 yrs even on extra payment .
Plug in hybrid may be a better choice unless driving is very heavy .

    E v has 100 negative sides
    1. High buying price
    2. Inavaibility of charging station while driving away from home
    3. Chances of sort Circuit
    4. Lowest resale value
    5. Dependence on dealer on malfunction
    6. Batteries are to be purchased at high price when finished
    8. After few years when the battery is going down its pick up and torque is questionable
    9. Battery company will wait and watch in its R&D cell for further improvement
    10. Battery dealers will think over and over their stocks
    11. If petrol diesal prices are down, since OPEC will not feel good if demand for petrol goes down as people are opting for EV.
They will keep prices down for several years so that demand of if EV doesn't increase. Still world is enough of oil deposits.
    12. Government promots EV only for their own short term gain. But in long run government will have to loss lot of taxes and problems related toindustriies.
    13. The ancillary automobile industries shares more than in overall automobile sector than what vehicle manufacturing companies industries.
    14. If everyone goes for EV ,there will be a issue of electricity. Government will have to cut forest and hills which again will be a problem .
    15. Disposing of damaged batteries and semicoductor chips will create enviromental problem
    16. Government thinks that if dependency of petrol and Diesel is finished they don't require to rely on oil exporting nation. But this will initiate new geopolitical tension because if oil is not purchased how these countries will maintain their economy.
Oh I m fed up with my negative thoughts
But there are still many micro level problems which are more serious than those which are already mentioned

Problems galore! But our government is so dumb. 10 years down the lane when electricity rates will shoot up then this Government will just vanish. Or just say 'if u don't have money to charge then why buy it in the first place?' And the government is silent on future too. How will they dispose off batteries in such a huge quantity? There is huge risk of environment pollution in future too.

Switching to an electric vehicle (EV) instead of a petrol car depends on several factors. Here are some key points to consider when deciding whether to go for an EV:
    1. Environmental Impact
EVs: Produce zero emissions during operation, reducing carbon footprint and helping combat air pollution.
Petrol Cars: Emit CO2 and other harmful pollutants, contributing to global warming and environmental degradation.
    2. Fuel Costs
EVs: Charging is typically cheaper than fueling a petrol car. Depending on local electricity prices, EVs often cost less to run per mile.
Petrol Cars: Fuel prices are generally higher and can fluctuate based on global oil markets.
    3. Maintenance
EVs: Fewer moving parts (no engine oil, less brake wear), resulting in lower maintenance costs.
Petrol Cars: Require more frequent maintenance (oil changes, engine repairs, etc.).
    4. Initial Cost
EVs: Tend to have a higher upfront cost, though government incentives and tax rebates can offset this in some regions.
Petrol Cars: Generally more affordable upfront, but costs can add up over time with fuel and maintenance.
    5. Charging Infrastructure
EVs: Need access to charging stations. If charging infrastructure is well-developed in your area (home or workplace charging), this can be a convenient option.
Petrol Cars: Petrol stations are widespread and convenient, but the cost of fuel is higher.
    6. Driving Range
EVs: Have a limited range per charge (typically between 200-400 km), but this is improving with newer models.
Petrol Cars: Have a higher range, and refueling is quicker than recharging an EV.
    7. Resale Value
EVs: Resale values can vary, but as the technology becomes more common, they are expected to hold value better over time.
Petrol Cars: Historically have stable resale value, though with EV adoption rising, this might change in the future.
    8. Government Policies
In some countries, governments are pushing for a shift toward EVs by offering incentives or mandating phase-outs of petrol cars in the future. Local policies could play a role in your decision.
If you're looking for long-term sustainability, lower running costs, and are in an area with a growing charging infrastructure, EVs could be a better option. However, if upfront cost or charging access is a concern, a petrol car may still be a viable choice for the time being.

Life of battery is 2000 to 3000 charging cycles depending on type of battery .. i.e the batery can last from 4 lakh kilometers to 5 lakh kms .. if I purchase XUV 400 today at a discount of 3 lakh rs . And use this car for next 10 to 15 years and drive it for nearly 2. 5 lakh kilometers . I will save rs 12.5 lakh / in diesel if the price of diesel remains same as of today.. and. Nearly rs 17 lakh if compared with petrol vehicle .. I will buy XUV 400 ... As it will save a lot of money and also this cars is automatic. Have all disc brakes have hill hold feature and many more ... I have a Kia seltos diesel automatic which is of rs 19 lakh on road .. and running cost is rs 6 per kilometer. When I complained they didn't accept it as the problem. Solution for that is run the AC at 23 or 24 during the starting of the car, after sometime when feel normal or cold, you can increase temperature. I followed it. And I was not seeing this issue anymore in last 3 years. And reason behind this is AC ducts to be kept cold so you don't get Hot air when AC is ON.

A car is anyways & always a depreciating asset by all standards. What % of cost price of your petrol/diesel vehicle do you think you will be able to recover when U will want to sell it after 7-8 years. I do not think you will get more than 40%(best case scenario) of its actual original value simply becoz there are always newer cars with better deals and service warranty & newer features that will appear in the market. In truth, the life of your vehicle battery or gasoline is only 7 years. When the buyer of your 7 year old used car looks at your vehicle and realises that it has completed 100,000 kms + has no warranty + has had few minor/major denting jobs/accident history...what do you think he will want to pay for buying your car?. All my previous used cars were able to sell only at throw away prices vs the actual cost i paid to buy/own them.

With the winter conditions, Delhi becomes a Gas Chamber. Put pressure on manufacturers so that they put more attention to R&D internally. Another government initiative should be allowing roadside dabhas and tea centers to have charging facilities under mudra loan etc. charging facilities are a concern for EVs presently.
