Your videos are not just tutorials, they have sort of therapeutic effect. When i watch you drawing and speaking, i feel better. It’s kinda separated feeling from learning aspect, which i also appreciate a lot. I like pencil sketching, marker sketching, watercolor motives, however, i practice it no so often. Too many other hobbies , i need 36 hours in a day :)
Leaving room for the imagination is one of my most favorite things about drawing. The eye never tries to take in every bit of detail at once when you look at something, so a drawing should reflect that. Otherwise it's information overload and it can look cluttered. You teach better lessons than most artists on this site!
I agree the eyes really work in that way. And thanks 🙏

In this tutorial, I have clearly understood the importance of the negative space and imperfect or uncompleted lines makes still sense for the observer. So we should not worry about it. I think the psychology of the drawer makes an impact on the paper. Thanks, Alphonso you are really helpful. Love you.
I am a multimedia artist, learning to watercolor by watching youtube. I found your sketching videos on youtube and spent the last two days watching, learning, and sketching. I am so grateful for your guidance and tips. I am hooked! I ordered one of your books on Amazon yesterday. I am rewatching one of your videos as I write this. Thank you immensely from Tucson AZ
My favorite artist is Kim Jung Gi, and he says that when he was young trying to draw faces, he would always get stuck up on the little details like the face not being symmetrical and he would always get upset over it forgetting the bigger picture. So now, if a detail doesn’t go right, he works with it, and it actually adds character to the drawing. A perfect drawing with no mistakes is bland, a drawing with a couple of mistakes is fun and great looking.
Thanks so much Alphonso for lots of amazing advice. I’m loving urban sketching. I am a complete beginner and using the horizon line is already making a difference to compositions. I’m now drawing loads of things I avoided before such as trees and people.
I just discovered your channel, in particular, this series. Invaluable! I’m a newbie at urban sketching and your breakdown of this process is eye-opening to me. Thank you!
I started urban sketching four months ago and Your tutorials were first i stumbled upon. I'm so glad You're covering the subject again!:D Thank You so much!
It's really hard for me to figure out what to not include as a detail...It would be really great if you make a third book, specifically for urban sketching :) I would love to practice this more with some guidelines.
New to sketching but really enjoying, your videos have given me much confidence, especially what not to draw and also that it does not need to be perfect, thankyou
I am an amateur (my cartoons were published in a textbook as comic relief, but that is still in print, 40 years!) and I teach a bit of cartooning, silhouettes are a really effective way to suggest rather than distract from your subject
This could not have arrived at a better time, my Brother. I've been struggling to understand and practice these concepts. Thanks for a clear understanding ...I'm operating out of my "Child" mind. ANd Congratulations on your accomplishments. Outstanding!
Hey Alphonso! I've been drawing like crazy and during that time I've been focusing on simple shapes and I gotta tell you: It works! I was always good at drawing BUT have struggled with color. As soon as I started focusing on simple shapes everything snapped into place instantaneously. It was quite a rush. But one question: How does "cone of vision" work more specifically: what does 60 degrees mean?? Does it have anything to do with angles or a compass? Please help.
Thanks for these v valuable guidelines. Like Veselina, I too feel confused about lines that are not so important for a particular drawing and can be left out. Please guide..🙏
Great video, thank you Alphonso. I'm a comic artist and I'm starting a new story with a real setting. Places must arouse emotions. Not easy :) But a great chance to learn something new.
Your books are soooooo awesome!! I learned a lot about drawing with you books ! I'm really enjoying your UA-cam videos also :D Thank you so much for your videos every time ^O^
You legend. It’s like whatever I needed help with, you’ve already created a video. This is probably the best video I’ve come across with the most helpful tips for background art.

Brilliant: "...sometimes it's not what you say, but what you convey"

I have a hard time doing that. I try to capture every detail. Got to learn to fight against.
You’re such a wonderful teacher. You make this make sense- I have the drive and passion, I just needed a good teacher like you.

to learn is always an exercise in mindfulness... funnny to see how much acknowledgement is behind a "simple" drawing.
Consider creating a book about Organic Forms and or Environments.
I am sure everyone would love more books from you.
Awesome lessons, by the way. ♥
Thanks much
Hi from Luxembourg! Seeing all your examples is so beneficial, awesome vid!
