This was dope man. You got the juice
A lot more "dope " and in depth than anything you'd make to "help" people right bud? ;)
"I think this is going to take half an hour" he says.
*takes 3 times that length, video eventually ends* Me: "OH COME ON WHY WAS THAT SO SHORT"
Virtual Riot is without a doubt the best at sound design!
It would be awesome if you did a "Studio Time with Virtual Riot #7 - Mixdowns
where you cover levels, bus's, compression, side-chaining, eq-ing, etc..
Just search "SeamlessR" on youtube, and then tell me who"s better!
Virtual Riot even mentions him at 12:21 :D
thats standard music production that alot of youtubers cover. in the mix is worth checking out
"We got some YAEE-WLUAHLAUWUA going on here"
-Virtual Riot 2015
absolutely love this ! thank you so much for still taking the time to help, and inspire other producers even though you are most likely mad busy ! seriously loving your new music, Keep going man !
54:48 has me crying
I’ve watched this about 5 times in the past two days and I’ve learned something new each time! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Wow, this is great stuff: you cover a lot in a relatively short time. It's much easier to retain a lot of this info when it's put in context, and you do that well and quickly. Thank you!
This is the best guide I've ever seen. Bro you are a great teacher. You are constantly sharing your thoughts about why you are doing what you are doing. And you went into so much detail. I'm gonna watch this until I fully understand everything in this video. I need to check out your entire catalog to see what other tutorials of specific sounds you have on here. But this is great for anyone who wants to learn.
Your generosity in sharing this program is truly appreciated. Thank you!
Seriously, for you to sit down and take time to put in so much work helping others is ridiculous. I wish more artists (most not even close to your level) would do more things like this. Very inspirational, Thank you so much.
One of the best Serum reviews so far! Congratulations! Definitely I´m in with the fx chain n post processing stuff as additional processings for serum on a new video! I will be waiting for it!
This is like the best thing I have found on the internet for quite awhile. Thank you for this, it is pure gold. subscribed+like
This was posted over 6 years ago, but it's still one of the best serum tutorials (along with his others). Love your work VR. Just keeps getting better
It's great that you decided to make video dedicated to Xfer's Serum. It still not have attention it deserves. And it is now probably the best wavetable synthesizer in the World.
+Synthferatu What I like most about Serum is that you have the liberty to create your own warping modes and even distortion, not to mention wavetables...Basically there's an infinite number of sounds that you can come up with, and it seems easier to work with comparing to other synthesizers, at least for me.
Thank you for making this. This really helps me get a grasp on how to use serum and not be confused most of the time when watching a certain sound tutorial
Seriously got so inspired watching this.
Lowkey died when you made legit sounds(Dubstep/Bass House/etc) in 15 secs. So awesome
49:30 still the dopest pluck + melody i ever heard
Finally decided to check out your YT channel after falling in love with your songs and hearing a shitload about you from Seamless.
You're my new hero
Each time i listening to your tutorial, i learned more into them than my others tutorials, your explanations are so clear and easy i love them
Thank you so much Virtual Riot, I've so been looking forward to your next studio time. And being all about Serum, well that was just the icing on the cake.
45:17 He literally sits down and starts messing around with no end goal and comes up with this. I'm officially convinced that Virtual Riot is a god
45:22 His finger stops him from talking and he was pissed at himself. Lol
Must say for someone who wants to start getting into production that this video helped a bunch! I feel like I have a much better understanding of what serum is capable of and a great attitude to just play around until I get what I want! Thank you for the knowledge
The best explanation of anything, ever! Ha! Love that you play as you tweak. Old but timeless. You're a star!
The best tutorial of Serum on YT is this one :) And it's amazing to see that this is Virtual Riot's one. I will have ableton live 10 standard for Christmas and I've been looking how it works for one month. I practise the guitar since I'm 7 years old and I have ever liked these kind of sounds. Sounds so chaotic but perfect.
I hope I will be able to start using Serum because it seems so impossible ! I have to learn more and more and to find my own style. Thanks Virtual Riot. This tutorial made me understand all the possibilities and put me on thé way of changing my life. 👍 I really hope to see you on the TV winning VS David Guetta because I don't find his songs good. There is always something missing, the voice fill the blanks.
Super informative man really helped me understand a lot more than I knew of serum. It's awesome because I feel like this is helpful for people making sounds of all genres not just riddim and it's hard to come by videos that are like that. Thanks brotha
There's such an unbelievable amount of information in this lol. 30 minutes in and I have almost 2 pages of notes, I feel like I'm in a class
Love You man, thank you for this gold mine trail of producing tips! was awesome seeing you out at the armory last friday even though you didn't play lol
VR you re one of the best producers out there....and the fact that you help other music lovers making the difference is such a wonderful thing.....lot of thanks you are dope!!!!!
28:23 virtual riot learning to be an aussie
How does this not have over a million views? I'm surprised you share this much info for free. Thank you so much!
Man VR thank you so much for sharing! Over the years I have learned so much from your twitch streams and studio sessions. So thank you thank you thank you! Cannot give you enough praise! Ps. that next studio session your talking about for sound design processing and overall mixing sound amazing! Also you should definitely put together a download package of all the wavetables you have collected from others synths like massive, Omnisphere, codex, etc because its so annoying to find these files or convert them and lots of producers would pay you for it! Anyways thanks for everything once again and all the best!
You are so adorable ;_;
I can't believe I saw you B2B with Barely Alive at the Amplitude 500 Drive in rave here in CO!!! When you came on, I was literally in tears...I was so FREAKIN happy that night!!! I had such a blast!!! My whole neck, back and legs were sore for a couple days from going so hard XD IT WAS WORTH IT THOUGH. Thank you for this tutorial!!! I am excited to try to make my very own wubz and what better way to learn than from one of my favorite Dubstep producers. I have so much respect for you
@@zxp3ct3r41 wym? Lol I havent made any songs yet. Currently working on a deep house one but I'm in the process of learning what I can in fl studio! I just have a song cover on youtube at the moment.
I like he doing the sound at 1:08:45 - 1:09:10 .. So amazing !!
this was great man thanks for going into deep detail! much appreciated! looking forward to the post processing vid.
Picked up Serrum about a month or two ago and honestly loved it. Got pretty good at it recently but this video just completely helped me just create some crazy shit! Thanks dude! New fan!
Omg! The bass at 1:09:00 sounds like Rogue's bass in his track Nightfall! It sounds so…awesome. Thank you so much for making this video.
"Sounds a bit like-" *plays animals drop*
LOL
Seriously happy you chose to do this as the next thing to cover, so nice to see you back to doing videos aswell :D excited to see what you do next, expecting something in the melodic tutorials way :D
This is still extremely useful 5 years later, it's amazing, thanks for this tutorial man!
YEAHHHHHHH... YEAHHHHHHHH.... YEAHHHHHHHH... Thanks Virtual Riot !!!! I've been waiting on this for sooo long :D
I love how xFer released the Dimension Expander as a separate plugin, which they actually made 100% free. It's really, really cool, when you want to use dimension expander outside of Massive or Serum.
Very nice vid, been debating on getting this plugin and this was exactly the kind of preview I needed.
nearly 5 years later, this is still very helpful. thanks for all the tips!
YESSS VIRTUAL RIOT!!! Fuck this depression and anxiety now I got more than a whole hour of you!!!!
31:43 almost pulled a "carnage" #veryverywaymorestronger
VR, I'm not sure if you'll see this but you've been such an inspiration of mine for the past few years. It mind sound weird but listening to your music has made me experience so many emotions and has made me cry multiple times, and not in a bad way at all. You're music is so beautiful to me whether it be a remix or an original song. You as an artist have inspired me so much and I've actually invested into music equipment and software as of yesterday. I guess what I'm trying to say is your music has made such an impact on my life and it means so much to me. I hope to open for you one day VR, I'll never regret listening to you.
It's never too long. Tutorials are rarely as helpful as yours, would absolutely love a video on layering and maybe an updated mixing and mastering one. Thanks for all the help.
Hey virtual riot, I learned a few good hidden tips from this, so thank you! I would be so interested in watching the video you were talking about making, post processing, FX chains and stuff. That's the part where I'm kind of lost at in Ableton.. I can add the FX chain but nothing super special ever comes out of it.
Thanks again :D
When he hits his head on his keyboard, it still sounds better, than everything I ever played on any instrument...
Been 5 years since this was posted and this still helped me understand Serum so much!
Found you randomly. I watched the whole video while at work. 10/10 no regrets. You earned a new subscriber.
Love the ambient sound at 53:00. Nice run-through. Serum is my favorite synth too. Bought it a few months ago, and it was so worth it.
That modulation part at the end where you showed the random wavetable pluck was SO epiiic !!

Virtual riot: "I hope you can hear this. If you've got headphones on you're definitely gonna hear this, it'll be.... fun."
Everybody with headphones:

1:08:38 omg that was amazing

I've been waiting for this for so long :D
Learns about Serum Text To Speech bonus egg thingy
Instantly types " Peanus Floot "
The results were even more mesmerizing than I anticipated.
You are a huge help! Literally bought serum just cause of you. Cant wait to test it with the midi key board.
still not too long. You packed years of knowledge into 1 hour of content. Excellent videos mate!
Thank you bam margera.
YAY NEW STUDIO TIME. Oh wait I don't have Serum. Cri
+Chen Boi Oh!! in that case you,re in the correct site ;)
+Chen Boi You can grab the demo on xferrecords website
The demo runs for about 20 minutes after which will output no sound. But you can just reload another instance of serum and make new patches.
Thank you so much Virtual Riot! I love your song and you have taught me so much in each and every video! I hope one day that I will be as good as you
52:30 The sound! I love it to bits! It's...it's gorgeous!

Put the video at 0.5 for further understanding

Can you do a Studio Time on how to synthesize Dubstep kick drums and snare drums? Using Sytrus or something like that?
Just bought it and what a beast makes great basses that punch thru the mix!
