Lago Di Braies (Lake Braies) is nestled in the majestic landscapes of the Fanes-Senes-Braies Nature Park in the Dolomites. With its emerald green waters this lake is not only a breathtaking wonder of nature but also a favorite destination for tourists from all over the world.
Also known as the "Pearl of the Dolomites " this emerald lake is surrounded by steep rocky slopes. Located at 1,496 metres above sea level Lago di Braies has a maximum depth of 36 metres. Situated at the foot of the mighty Seekofel massif (2,810 m) it blends picturesquely into the Dolomite landscape.
The popular circular route around this magical mountain lake is a great experience for young and old because the entire hiking trail is safe and well marked. Starting from the historic Hotel Pragser Wildsee we started the circular hike on the right bank of the lake. In parts the route runs directly along the lake shore and in sections a little higher on the wooded slopes. Around the lake there are seating areas and beautiful small beaches.
The surrounding mountains and forests create a picturesque backdrop that adds to the lake’s mystical aura. Although it is known as the largest natural mountain lake in South Tyrol, Lago di Braies holds countless secrets and stories waiting to be discovered.
One of the most iconic features of Lake Braies is visitors to experience the serene beauty of the lake up close and enjoy the stunning mountain reflections.
Lake Braies is also a starting point for hiking trails, including those leading to the Prato Piazza plateau.
