It’s incredibly ridiculous that people critique your photos on social media!! 😓 No one asked for their opinions to begin with!! 😒 Like you said, people are so focused on looking “proportionate” or like an “hourglass figure”, and it’s a very outdated / conformist / narrow way of thinking.
You are absolutely gorgeous and artistically inspiring, I love the way YOU approach getting dressed, and I would really appreciate hearing more of what you have to say / suggest on this topic! ❤❤ Xox!

I personally go for all skintight and I think the all-black outfit with the short skirt is my favourite on you too! I've realised through your video that all my favourite outfit combos are because they highlight the waist. The whole pear/apple/hourglass/whatever thing never really made sense for me because I don't really fit into any of the categories. So it was much more helpful and interesting to hear your take on how certain clothing types have an effect on how your body looks :)

oooh, I have a new rabbit hole for you, now, that you mention the body types ❤ have you heard of the Kibbe body types and the Kitchener essences?
Its all about how fabric drapes around your body, so you feel comfortable in your own skin and know which cut and fabric, stiffness and so on makes which proportion and effect. So nothing about looking like everybody else or 'balanced' but comparing yourself within your own body, not to others. And the Kitchener essences are more about the vibe you give off, from mostly your face, your gesture and mimic. Its so interesting and helped me A LOT to understand my body and why I look completely strange and off in some clothes. It lead me to experimenting more with various styles and I feel waaaay better in my skin now. I look more like 'me' - I also highlight my shoulders, long arms, long legs, big hands and every roundness I have. More draping, nothing stiff...😎I could talk about it all day..
Aly Art and Ellie Jean Roden make awesome UA-cam videos about that. I typed myself as a Soft Dramatic, maybe you are a dramatic too? :)

As someone who has an extremely similar body type I love these videos! I spent a huge part of my teenage and adult years trying to camouflage my 'undesirable' features because teenagers are cruel. Now as I reach my 30s I've realised that those are some of my personal favourite features about myself so I'm too busy making it everyone's problem. Thanks for fueling the fire 🔥

Actually, I don't think you are pear-shaped, you look like an hourglass because your shoulders balance your hips. In a pear shaped person, the hips would look much larger/bigger than the shoulders.

      I agree. She's no pear.

    • @AkiUtada
      @AkiUtada Рік тому +8

Yes! Many people think hourglass = busty, when in reality it’s defined by shoulders having the same width has the hips. Pears also tend to have bigger thighs and/or legs, even when they are thin, which I don’t think is the case for Jenny, who is tall with very slender hips and legs : visually, not “bottom heavy” at all.
(I realise it’s weird to discuss someone’s body so closely, but I think it might be helpful for people who have a similar frame).

@@angeles381 yes. I used to watch her videos years ago and in one of them she said she was a pear. I was like, wtf, but I didn't know enough about body types at the time and left it alone even though I thought it was wrong. Now, years later, she still seems to think that. I have no idea why she does, maybe she was informed wrong about what being a pear actually means or maybe she has body dysmorphia.

You are very dramatic, sharp and narrow. I think anything that reflects that in some kind of way will look good on you. your advice in this video is good for someone with a similar build but will not work for example for some who is more rounded and petit. But I completely agree we should highlight our qualities instead of hiding them and label them as imperfections.

Absolutely love this video Jenny. I hate when people say you should do this or that to look this way or another. I personally agree with you on the oversized style looking so cool although I am basically the opposite of your body type. Some people might think I sometimes look like a leprechaun, but then again - I think I would make a good one 🤷‍♀️. Style is so much about how you want to express yourself. I think it’s time to stop dressing for others, it really should be about who we want to be.

i usually go for tight top/loose bottom or vice versa but other than that i go for all loose and not all tight very often. i love having my shoes or socks being a highlight and i love a good hoodie/coat to pop out, sometimes a mask or hat. I love having good sunglasses and jewelry too, specifically multiple necklaces and rings. I like having no colour or all aggressive colour and mismatching laces or mixing styles (ex: vintage feminine with combat style) and I adore having an incredibly unique piece (I have balaclavas that have bunny like ears). Ive never been one for trends so I tend to float around many styles.

    Hi,
your video just popped up on my UA-cam and I watched it out of curiosity. I would just like to add that it would be worth check out David Kibbe's system, which I think is a-m-a-z-i-n-g(!) "guide" on how and what outfit to wear and which pieces are perfectly in tune with your "body type/skeleton". True, David's book, written in the late 80's, is labelled by some as outdated, which is justified in terms of fashion trends. However, his system is not at all about blindly following -fashion/body- trends, or making women look different from their true selves (that, e.g. all women try achieving themselves into an idealised, hourglass-shaped body by dressing up), on the contrary, D.K. concept is trying to teach women to become their most unique, authentic themselves by bringing out their most beautiful qualities and this is not at all weight or trend related, because his style method is fundamentally based on our skeletal system + our essence and charisma. (Although I don't know how tall you are, I assume you are a 'Dramatic' or possibly 'Flamboyant Gamine' in the above system.)

I would feel uncomfortable in totally oversized look… I’m short, and in baggy boxy large clothes I just look as if I’m undergrown or consumed by clothing. I don’t like that.
I’d rather wear all tight clothing than all oversized one 😂
But my favorite formula so far is clinging top + wide bottom and waist definition; could be turtleneck with high waisted wide leg trousers, could be cropped top with pleated midi skirt.
I think I have quite balanced body proportions. The only thing I ever wanted to change was my height, I wanted to become taller when I was around 15-16 years old, but when I learned how it could be done and all risks and complications… I never thought about it again and became happy with my body as is. I didn’t want to torture myself for additional inch or two, they wouldn’t make any difference honestly, because I’m 141 cm (4’8”)

Totally agree. This weird idea that we all had to basically do whatever it takes to make ourselves the “ideal” hourglass or classically proportioned body is so obnoxious and unhelpful, really. I’m not an evangelist for any one “system” or “rules” when it comes to dressing, but I did find studying the theories of David Kibbe and John Kitchener helpful in getting my eye to see MY body’s lines and overall character or personality if you will. What I like about them is that they advocate harmonizing with and honouring the lines you have instead of compensating for them or hiding them or any such thing. It has helped me see why certain cuts and fabrics make me feel like myself and look my best and why others are just weird. But even with those theories, there can be this inclination to take the guidelines offered as hard and fast rules. But nobody is 100% a type of any kind. We’re complex and unique and should wear whatever the heck makes us feel the way we want to feel. But, having knowledge like you are sharing in this great video helps us have more control over how our clothes reflect whatever mood we may be in, whatever effect we are going for which, I think, gives us confidence and confidence is always attractive. I know that my body is put together in such a way that when I wear oversized, bolder clothes, I actually look “normal” and “proportionate”. If I dressed in a way that tried to bring the illusion of a “proportionate” body (which always seems to mean an hourglass figure) I would look ridiculous and I would be so uncomfortable everyone around me would immediately pick up on how awkward I felt. I loved that you showed how the lines of your clothing pieces can effect how the lines of your body are perceived by the eye. Trying to be something you aren’t never really works, anyhow. It’s a big ole waste of time and energy.

This reminds me of when I was in high school reading make-up tips. The magazine said things like, "Are your lips too big? Then, blah blah blah." "Are your eyes too close together? Then blah blah blah." I remember the more I read the more indignant I felt. I asked, ""Are my lips too big for What?" "Are my eyes too close together for what?" I mean, I couldn't express it well, but I already knew that the magazine and beauty industry were trying to make us all look like mirror images of each others--like dolls. Shortly afterwards I saw an old episode of the Twilight Zone where everybody has to have a Procedure done to them before adulthood to make them look beautiful and perfect. The main character didn't want it done saying "if everyone is beautiful and perfect, then there is NO beauty."After that I decided to dress as I liked.

My body type is similar to yours except I think I am slightly taller and therefore bigger overall. I like emphasizing my waist and skimming over hips ( love wide legs trousers, do not like 'flare' on me because I think it makes a very weird post-modern silhouette). I also like to emphasize my 32" inseam legs. High waist long trousers, long skirts, maxi dresses. . . used to wear a lot of mini-skirts and shorter shorts, but been reassessing that as it does attract judgy-ness sometimes when I'd rather fly under the radar.

I am 5'1, rather small but not bony, and I have a huge chest. I don't need to hide it, or show it off. I'm okay that it's there. My chest will sometimes lead an outfit into looking "too sexy" or "dumpy frumpy." I don't need either of those when I'm just trying to get stuff done on a Tuesday. I hope to control for those variables a bit more. Tricky though

I am really petite, pear shaped and I also add short legs in the ecuation. I hear people telling me ALL THE TIME to wear slimmer shoes with high heels and give up my oversized clothing or 3/4 pants. I don't get it.. I look in the mirror and I find those give me a way better proportion than then classics that I'm always recommended to wear. Oh well, let all the calf length t-shirts and chunky boots come to me :D

The way to backhanded compliments is paved with words like "balance out" 🙄 oh yeah, and "to pull it off" too... If you know other words, please write in the comments, I'd love to read it 🥰

Love love love this!!! Yes, please - more videos like that! Especially showing different outfits in comparison is so great!
I have a super super short torso and long legs and arms, also small boobs, but my hips and shoulders are medium I´d say. I love to experiment with proportions and love your outfits as inspiration

I was wondering if you could share the brand details for your bra? 🙏 Your video gave me some food for thought, because I seem to try and follow the masses rather than focus on how my body is. This was a good reminder to be myself ❤

Jenny I do love these kind of videos and make us think more out of the basic box and more into our unique features and quirks. Every body shape is unique and deserves more then just the classic hourglass.

Love your view on body types! I bought myself a black oversized blazer with shoulder pads these days, and now I know why I feel a little bit weird in it! Very nice and educational video 😊. Thanks for the clothes list. Is the black Skirt (2:16) second hand or can I buy it anywhere? I just fell in love with the fit… ❤

Thank you SO much for the message! Such an informative and inspiring video with so much helpful footage, I took away a lot for me.
I have pretty big boobs and a slim waist which (the waist) is often not so easy to show - because of the bigger boobs I often wear size L tops that are way too wide in my waist. I don't feel that comfortable to highlight my boobs so wearing tighter tops isn't the best solution for me.. I often go for oversized or slightly cinched waist.

I have a similar body shape as you, but I'm 5 ft ;) I always hate when an hourglass is seen as "the most beautiful". I personally wouldn't like to look like to have this body shape.

Thank you for this video. Your explanation in combination with the visual examples were great!
I am smaller than you, also have thin legs, wide shoulders and small tits, but I am quite straight at the waist-hips area so no wide hips and no small waist.
I do like my body a lot. I usually tend to wear wider upper wear and tighter bottons to draw attention to my bottom area. But I also like my shoulders and tits. So in summer I will show them off :-)
