Interesting about the dark/light side on an individual basis. The message I took was that it was about how there are two Americas - the haves and the have-nots. And, we pay an eventual price by dividing ourselves and remaining ignorant about what others are going through, and how we are all really connected in consequence.
US made me not sleep well for a week and be afraid of mirrors and my own reflections. But it’s a masterpiece! I love Jordan Peele, his imagination and the cast.

Was US really a "Horror" movie though. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVED the movie.... but I saw it more as suspenseful Thriller. The movie was brilliant but I wouldn't say it was scary enough to be called horror.
It's horror in the way a slasher film is horror. And it is inspired from horror classics so it has a lot of horror "tropes" like jump scares (although not very many), phoning for help not working, an abandoned place, vengeful beings, etc. I wouldn't say it was very gory... not like Saw or anything.
Horror thriller. A Quiet Place had monsters but didn’t frighten me but is definitely classified as a horror. Us is definitely a horror film. Only the Tethered are the monsters.
As a thoroughly white dude, I am absolutely LOVING the cascade of movies and shows with predominantly black casts, writers, and directors over the last 2-3 years (Hidden Figures, Moonlight, Atlanta, Black Panther, Get Out, Blackish, Us, Empire, etc.). It's going to sound cheesy, but "black" movies making bank seems like the first step towards mutual understanding. Also, Trevor and Lupita, go on with your bad selves! Did I say that right? Probably not, I imagine. Still learning.

Some European (white people) based religions started the whole "black signifies evil" thing, as far as my knowledge can tell me. It's highly guarded and not questioned enough in European and American cultures... I have European ancestry so it's not my job to educate anyone on this but I read feminist and humanitarian authors and bell hooks a really amazing black feminist philosopher who I look up to and she speaks about this in her book, *Sisters of The Yam* : "In a space before time and words, the world was covered in a thick blanket of darkness. It was a warm and loving covering. Since it was hard for the spirits who inhabited this space to see one another they learned to live by and through touch. So if you were running around lost you knew you were found when arms reached out in that loving darkness to hold you. And those arms that held the spirits in that beautiful dark space before time are holding us still."

She took this movie a lot more seriously than it deserved and that’s what makes her such a great actress she sells it better than wack ass JP
But I think we can all agree is lupita playing (red) saying “you better ruuuunnnnm” is as terrifying as “it’s Johnny” from the shinning.
