    Thanks for your review ! Been waiting for one for a while.
    I’m currently struggling with choosing between Kobo Clara BW and Boox go 6 and for me the most important feature is an accessibility to dictionaries. Which one of them in your opinion is better in purpose of reading in a different languages ? Not many information with comparison of translation process on different e-ink devices.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 місяці тому +1

      I'd say it depends on your proficiency in the target language, what you want to achieve and also which languages you need.
      With Boox you get direct access to online translation services for whole sentences for a lot of languages, which can be really helpful. However, the downside of that approach is that you don't have on-device translation dictionaries available out of the box.
      Kobo on the other hand has built-in explanatory and translation dictionaries for selected languages that are generally working well (but not always perfect) and add context to the words you look up. That's probably the better approach for learning a language.

    • @ChalidRaqami
      @ChalidRaqami  2 дні тому

      None of the ones you mentioned support WACOM pen input, so note taking only works via the virtual QWERTY keyboard. If that's what you're looking for, then the Boox Page out of the three.
      For WACOM pen support, there aren't a lot of options in that size segment and no B&W devices if I'm not mistaken. I'd go for the Boox Tab Mini C when it comes to that.

      If I'm not mistaken, Boox has never updated Android to a higher version. So it'll most likely be stuck at version 11 on the Go 6.
      As I said in the video, I don't think it's a huge deal right now, because most apps work just fine. And with a roughly 20% market share, Android 11 will most likely be supported by many apps for quite while.

      You summarized it perfectly already :D
      I'd say Kobo is the better choice if you don't want to tinker with the device. Its UI is cleaner, easier to use and the Klara B&W is just a much more focused ereader. The Boox device can do a lot more, but is also more difficult to use and prone to distractions.

      @@metallica1361 Both won't get upgrades to Android 12 most likely, so that's a potential concern with either one.
      It's definitely possible that some apps won't run in the future anymore as they'll be updated to only run on newer Android versions. But personally I think that will take a bit more time than 2-3 years for most apps. Android 11 still has a large user base (around 20 percent of all Android users last time I checked), which means that it'll take some time for that to go down and apps to drop support.

      I wouldn't be surprised since this is a Chinese device. So if it isn't a financial thing, it could be a US legal thing as well.
      While app support in two years is a concern for many with them being android 11, they dismiss security concerns due to how they may use this device. the more I've been following this rabbit hole of E-ink devices the more I think "oh, that thing can be solved with an iPad" (or your Android tablet of choice).

    • @channelDD25
      @channelDD25 2 місяці тому +4

      Its not about dumbing it down, Its a totally different technology. iPad is LED screen, and these devices are eink. The point of eink is less strain on the eyes and battery life.

      @kookythymes2838 2 місяці тому +5

      I think these devices are meant for people who only want to read text. In that scenario, eink can't be beaten by something like the ipad. In a perfect world you have both devices and use them for different reasons.

      @@channelDD25 I get it, you're right. I love my kindle. What I meant is the annotation part of these e-ink devices and their poor ecosystem. There's so much hassle to sync files and unlike, say Apple Notes, you can't use your e-ink device for notes and then continue in your phone, iPad or Mac. It's like the only three things these devices excel are portability, battery life, and they're easy to our eyes. But for those tradeoffs I'll rather use pen and paper for "writing/thinking" and an iPad to "store" the final versions of my notes.
      That will solve those issues I have with the e-ink devices and will solve all their problems for less money (including a power bank to increase battery)
