    I was at Shanghai Disneyland and apparently I was the only one in line meeting Belle that day who knew how to carry a conversation in English. I told her how much I loved reading and we ended up talking for about 5 minutes straight! It was one of the most memorable conversations I had. She told me how she missed having furniture (like Chip) that talked but she was glad that they all became human again. I also bonded with Cinderella when i was in Disneyland Anaheim and we talked about my journey here (it took about a day by plane from Malaysia to LA) and when i told her my journey took a day, she said, “oh my! by horse?” And she laughed. I smiled too :) it’s these little moments that a photo will remind you of forever.

    I hate when parents try to stump characters. like you're the one who paid a lot of money to please your kid, why are you doing this? Why are you trying to ruin the magic? It doesn't make sense to me

      I had a mom in front of me which asked this and i said to her: No it is not hot inside, because it´s his skin. Is it hot under your skin? I don´t think so. She had a little child on her hand, around 8 i think. I said to her: Why you wants to destroy the magic for all of us, especially for your own child. She looked at me with open mouth, without knowing what she should say. I hate people like this. Why they pay so much money when they not like this? Only, to destroy other people their magical days? I love Disney! This is the best place on earth for so many reasons.

    Good tips, I also have one, for the people (like me) that film their meet and greet, hold the camera to the side and not in front of your face and talk the characters by looking at them and don't look at the camera screen. I do it like that and with a little bit of practice it works great and it's more natural then shoving a camera in their face

    If you collect pins, one thing that I've found can help interactions with speaking characters is wearing your pins on a lanyard! It sounds so simple but it really gives you something to talk about and almost bond over, especially if you have a pin of the character you're meeting!

    Thank god you said something about "Don't tell Snow White that she is your favorite Snow White" I hate when I hear people telling them that! Also, I love talking to characters! My friends make me talk to the characters first so I can start a conversation with them. It gets really cool when you meet them more then once and they remember you by name :)) You definitely want to have a good convo with a character because they will remember you for awhile.

    One of my favorite interactions I've had was with Thor in Disneyland. I was wearing a Loki shirt and the handler pointed it out to him. He told me he didn't trust me, so we took pictures standing back to back. If you are shy, just wearing something they can react to will help make a memorable interaction

    AND DON"T SAY "ANDY'S COMING" WHEN YOU SEE A FRIGGEN TOY STORY CHARACTER.
    Nothing will happen and your yelling is annoying. (As you can tell, this one really grinds my gears)

    I saw someone ask Aurora about the Descendants and she was so confused I felt so bad! AND YES TO CHARACTER INTEGRITY. I took a family for the first time and the little girl was so excited for the characters but there were some people next to us pointing out certain performers so she ended up asking me if it was really them and I had to convince her that yes, there's only one Belle and so on.

      My aunt told my little cousin that since there are so many Disney Parks, the Princesses get help from other people so you don't always meet the "real" one. My nine year old cousin had the most fun trying to decide which ones we met were "real'. I was able to convince her all but one or two were. My aunt does the same with Santa too :)

    My tip is when getting an autograph from a character, avoid giving the characters (especially fur characters) a biro pen or a crayon etc, thick felt tips are really handy, they're easier to hold and most autograph books use thick paper so the ink won't spoil through 👍🏼🖌

    I met Peter Pan without waiting in line or trying, it was amazing! We were at WDW, and we were walking back from the pool at Bay Lake Tower (Contemporary DVC) and we saw Peter Pan and Captain Hook walking out with their attendants to the dock where the pirate cruise takes place. They saw guests and immediately started bickering and saying things their characters would say. Captain Hook went off, but Peter Pan slowed back a bit to greet us. He picked up this crudely drawn picture of him over a coloring sheet of Belle and said “I made this for Belle, don’t you think she’ll love it?” We all started laughing and it was just a really great experience.

    Mulan is one of my favorite characters and always have to meet her whenever I'm on vacation to Disney World. When I told her that, she quoted "Really? well then you must be swift as the coursing river..." I blanked. I know the song but I just couldn't remember the lyrics right on the spot. I felt ashamed but Mulan helped me out then I remembered the rest of the chorus. Kinda did a little quiz on me lol but she was great

    I found one interaction I had at Animal Kingdom last summer interesting. I met Flik and it was a great time. And maybe Flik can get away with this because he's traveled to the 'big city" in his film (???), but he pointed out a wrestling shirt my brother was wearing and made an acknowledgment about it. He also got me (after a few tries of me trying to understand) to turn on my lock screen which had a still of Patrick from Spongebob where he says "I love you" in an ep. Flik pointed at the picture and made a belly-on-stomach laughing motion. He was very funny and it was a great interaction, but I thought it was odd and interesting that he went out of his way to recognize non-Disney pop culture.

    I haven't been to Disney World since I was little and it broke my heart a couple of years ago when my mom told me that they have a lot of Mickeys in different rooms for people to meet. Just keep quoting Sarah: "there's only one", and you'll be a much happier person.

    • @vintagealien2594
      @vintagealien2594 7 років тому +2

      gracieliz95 That is not true. I hate to be blunt, but multiple Mickey's do not roam the park. There is only one Mickey and when he is not roaming the park, he is usually hanging out with his friends :-)

      vintagealien I want to believe you, I really do. The one we met wasn't roaming, though, he was a sorcerer's apprentice Mickey and he was in a greeting area inside a building. I'll happily take your word for it, though. I'm sure you know better than I do.

    Nice video! I was at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL back in May, and I had a lot of fun meeting with characters while I was there! I had a fun time meeting with the princesses, got to dance with a few of them! When I met Ariel in her mermaid form, I told her about how I was in a musical about her story for the community theatre where I live, and I sang a little bit for her, that was fun! I made sure to see Donald a good few times because he's my favorite! I agree that you shouldn't quiz/drill the characters about their story, but there's no harm in asking them questions pertaining to their story. For example: When I met Raqunzel from Tangled, I asked her how Flynn Rider was doing and that lead to a nice conversation. Same with Mary Poppins when I asked her what Bert was up to. Love the Disney characters, they're great!

    I get the ones about not quizzing your character on their movie, like don't ask Ariel about Melody, or about Kingdom Hearts or Descendants. But I see on a lot of websites to ask things like, asking Alice how many impossible things she's accomplished today, or asking Ariel what her favorite human treasures are. What do you think about those?

    If you think about how many kids ask the characters very detailed questions about their characters on a daily basis you would see that its not an "insult" to them. They are required to know a bit about the character too in order to "keep the magic". My sister works there right now and part of her job is to answer all the little kids questions. my sister has been in situations where a kid has known more about a movie than her, but shes required to improvise. its part of the whole show that is disneyland. if cast members don't answer peoples character questions in a magical/applicable way they would get fired.

    When getting an autograph, can you use a small sketchbook or journal? Or do you have to use an official book from the park?

    • @Nimeariel
      @Nimeariel 8 років тому +8

      You can use any kind of bound paper book, so a sketchbook or journal with a non-Disney pattern or theme or decoration will be fine (it can even be, for example, a "minions" notebook that you have the page open to for them to sign)- they just mean don't give them a Minion doll or piece of clothing with Harry Potter on it or some other OBJECT (or poster) with a NON disney character on it to sign. Like, "oh, hey, Snow White! Can you sign my Monster High pillowcase?" No, they won't really do that. But if you have a Monster High notebook, with empty pages, then you should be okay. Just don't make a big deal out of the non-disney theme, either like "can you sign my Ninja Turtles notebook?" Just be like, "can I have your autograph?" or "can you sign my book?". If that makes sense!

    I really don't get the "Don't quiz them" tip. Part of the characters interaction experience is sharing with them how much you loved their adventure. When I met Moana we ended up talking about the adventures she lived and she was more than glad to take it from there and share her point of view on the main events of the movie. And that was the BEST part for me.

    Disney owns the ABC channel and one of the titles it has is once upon a time could you ask them about this without getting into any issues. If so could you talk about separate universes in the Disney franchise such as Marvel's Avengers or pirates of the Caribbean.

    I had an obssession with making my own autograph book by cutting out picture of a Donald Duck magazine and pasting them on paper with empty spaces next to them for the autographs. I remember Goofy giving me a thumbs up for it.

    Hey Sarah, burning question I've been wondering: How do the talking Mickeys work? I'm never sure how to interact with him…is it a recording that plays and is controlled behind the scenes?
    what stumps me more is the Crush turtle one

      Mikey has a bunch of pre recorded sayings (I got him to sing happy birthday to me!) and crush just has a guy say the things then a computer changes his voice

      All of talking mickey's phrases are prerecorded by the official voice of Mickey and through some Disney Magic he always knows what to say!

    Hi there! Thanks for this informative video! I'll definitely take it into account when I (eventually) visit Disneyland!
    However, I do have a question. I would like to demonstrate to Mary Poppins my ability to say 'Supercalifragilistic...' backwards, but I don't want to go up to her and just say "Hey, I can say 'Supercalifragilistic...' backwards". So would asking _her_ to say it first count as quizzing her? Do the 'friends' of Mary Poppins typically learn how to say it? I know that some of them can, but I really don't want to embarress her....
    Thank you in advance!

    • @Thingamavlogs
      @Thingamavlogs  7 років тому +1

      I'd probably not ask her to do it! Maybe try saying "did you know I can say Supercalifraga.... backwards just like you?" and then do it for her!

      Amelia Shaw Its not that they're not allowed to, but it is extremely awkward. Common decency should tell you not to put the characters into such an uncomfortable situation.

    • @donetm1241
      @donetm1241 7 років тому +2

      Amelia Shaw I also feel as if they don't because their singing voices probably won't sound just like the princess they are portraying. Kids tend to remember the songs they sing very well, and if it doesn't match up, it could be very disappointing...

    I disagree with the "Don't quiz the Disney characters on their movies." When Disney hires people to play face characters at Disney, they're required to know their specific Disney movies forward and backward.

    There's only one Peter Pan, Cinderella, and Snow White? That's rather fascist. After watching this video, I really don't want to interact with any Disney characters. If I see them I will just politely keep my distance.
