dont know why people shit on ray wilson genesis. he has a raw powerful voice . its not like they forgot who they were. ray had blessings from phil AND peter. underrated album! i love ray :)
yeah too bad they didnt do a 2nd album with ray... :(
He got completely shafted, it's easy to blame the new guy for all the problems even if he did a really good job.
Underrated album, they should’ve continue with Ray !!!
They should've. Only problem was Ray Wilson wasn't very well known in the USA, which is one of Genesis' biggest markets. As such, A&R reps at Genesis' USA distributor (Atlantic Records) weren't all that supportive of them doing so, especially since sales of "Calling All Stations" weren't all that great in the US. By 1997, Atlantic Records had basically wrote off any further works by either Genesis or Phil Collins' solo work as having any chance of success, which is why they were unwilling to sink any more cash or resources into either. So, both Genesis and Phil Collins retired from the industry for several years afterwards.
Yeah only album I love after Duke
@@robbiestewart89 What they should've done is take Ray on the road and played the small theatres like the did in 1980 on the Duke tour - up close and personal. Having seen Ray at a Genesis convention in Crewe , he would most certainly have found his feet with the audience. He had great stage presence like his predecessors. The true fans could've go to know him at the smaller venues . Blame game ? Tony Smith.
I wish they did
I concur. Did they really get rid of the lead singer?😮
One of my absolute favourite songs from Genesis.
Lyrics to one of the best tracks on the album; 🔥👏
You say that I put chains on you
But I don't think that's really true
But if you want to be free from me
You gotta lose me in another world
Send me to the Congo I'm free to leave
There's always somewhere anybody can lead
Send me to the Congo you have to believe
You can do it if you wanna just do what you please
Like a soldier ant
I will wait for the signal to act
To take a walk right through the door
If you don't want me here any more
Send me to the Congo I'm free to leave
There's always somewhere anybody can lead
Send me to the Congo you have to believe
You can do it if you wanna just do what you please
Into my heart you came
And gave a whole new meaning to my life
Into my world you brought a light
I thought it never would go out
Send me to the Congo I'm free to leave
There's always somewhere anybody can lead
Send me to the Congo you have to believe
You can do it if you wanna just do what you please
You can send me to the Congo I'm free to leave
There's always somewhere anybody can lead
Yes you can send me to the Congo, you have to believe
You can do it if you wanna just do what you please
I would never be the one to say you had no reason
To want me somewhere else far far away
But someday you may understand, someday you will see
That someone who would die for you is all I've ever been
Congo the Congo, if that's how it's got to be
Congo the Congo, if that's what you want from me
I would never be the one to say you had no reason
To want me somewhere else far far away
Someday you may understand someday you will see
🙏🏻
To me, Ray Wilson sounds like Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins, mashed into one voice. Clearly underrated!
yes!! that's what i always thought
He sounds more like Rod Stewart.
One of the most underrated songs and album. What a time and era. Such a legendary era filled with non-stop legends like these who are all one of the greatest singers as well as musicans of all time. Like literally. Music, tracks, emotions and feelings that even to this day are ageless and still relate to us. Music that is so heartfelt and always touches your heart with feelings, emotion & rhythm. With a legacy that never ends. All the best Genesis, and thank you so much for everything that you did for us and countinue to do for us. A voice and a talent still unmatched today. Truly legendary. 💙👏
One of the best tracks on the album, and a favourite for me, on an album that's already donest get much credit for what it deserves. What a track, All the best Legends. Genesis had so many eras, and literally a legacy that'll never end 💙👑
My favourite track from an underrated album!
From 2:38 it gets very much like Wham or Tears for Fears. It's so bad I'm angry. I avoided it all these years because of the snippets I'd heard. Genesis aren't supposed to sound like Toto. I'm only on the second track, I may not make it out alive.
Here it is, believe it or not, the biggest single from the album.
I actually really like the chords on the chorus, and the little solo near the end...
"what will be the final instrument?"
"What do you mean what's the final instrument, this is the instrument!!"
This song has great R&B rhythms, is underrated.
I’ve keep saying this many times but I believe “Congo” gives me a 90s era INXS vibe since Nir Zidkyahu’s drumming ability in this track reminds me of Jon Farriss’ style as heard in those INXS songs in that era (god rest Michael Hutchence’s soul).
Great rhythm, great sounds, great synthesisers.
Great track! I am happy they uploaded the album version.
I don't understand how Genesis couldn't go on and make at least two more albums with Ray as the singer. One of my favorite CDs to go for an epic jog to. 🙂
Funny story actually how I acquired this one. My sister received it through Columbia House when we were kids. She listened to it thinking she was going to hear Phil Collins. She was disappointed. She gave it to me. At the time I was getting ready to go back to school. And would listen to it in the car riding to and from school. Although it was not Phil Collins singing I made note the music was undeniably Genesis. I instantly fell in love with the first track "Calling All Stations"and eventually the whole album. We didn't have cable at the time. I didn't see the video for "Congo" till many years later.
My dad bought Calling All Stations back in 1997, and it sounded so different to me, I thought there were two bands called Genesis. I was 8 at the time XD
@@Fuzy2K thank you for sharing your perspective 🙂
Love this track, never understand why it never seemed to do better
It did not fit with the generational shift in music in its time, and many long time fans were ... mixed to ambivalent about the band after the long wait on Phil to finally announce his departure.
What I don't understand is these "reissue" videos. This is not appreciatively better sound or quality to what was previously here. I mean, I know they have to promote the new sets being put out and all that, but come'on man ...
I still wishing so much success for my favourite band! I do love you Genesis! ❤️🎼🎶
I would love to hear Phill singing this song... :D
it sounds like a Peter song from So.
I fell in love with this song ever since hearing it back in 2007. I absolutely loved it and still do.
REALLY great song ❤ still miss Phil singing. Ray is close on this one. 👏👏👏❤
I really enjoy this album, it’s too bad we didn’t get more from this lineup. Rock on.
exellent band perfect music thanx for posting, Ray is the Best
For me this is a hot & cold album. This is one of the hot bits.
Great song 🎤🎵🎵🎵🌟
Yeah Genesis!🎶 I remember and Love This One! GREAT BAND through ALL of The Decades! 💖💖💖
Superb production on this track!
I remember when I bought that record, back in 1997 and I never got tired of listening to it 👍
"Genesis" my first Rock step with Pink Floyd
One of Genesis's best music videos! 🎸🎹🎶
Absolutely amazing thanku so much love an God bless always x
First of all, I’m glad official GENESIS finally doesn’t ignore CAS anymore. I love EVERYTHING they’ve done, including FGTR and CAS.
The very first time I listened to Congo was via telephone. A friend, one of the founders of the German Genesis fan club, called me who had just received a promo CD.
Underrated brilliance. Still
My favorite song off this album.
My favorite track on this album. There is one extra track called "Anything Now" that's even better. Not sure why it didn't make the album.
Yea, I know that song. That was a total banger, got buried in obscurity.
Wish they had this version on Spotify instead of the single version it was replaced with.
I LOVE GENESIS!
Wow Magnifique🔥
Fu**ing Great!!!
They received a bunch of crap about this one in it's day. Compared to some of the crap that has come along since, it is powerful and refreshing.
I have th cd!here in Argentina this song and calling All th stations song gaind good airplay in th radios stations!
i actually like this album
it's different & has a dark mood, i feel like the line up worked even if it wasn't too popular.
Needless to say, not the track we know from the CD. Tony and Mike's contribution to the track makes it totally Genesis. And even though I'm very partial to Phil Collins, the vocalist must have been good enough for Tony and Mike! And at least it was able to give us true fans another Genesis album. It is a great track.......... but we do miss Phil!
❤️
My favorite song in this album
best fucking soug ever
what is a SOUG?
I would have loved to have heard a 2nd release by this version of GENESIS, I think getting this first album under their belt was a good start and I have a hunch that they would have created something even better for the 2nd album.
Too bad, there's some very good material here, some great sounds and let's face it, Ray's voice has some of the timbre that Peter Gabriel's voice has and I wish they would have taken more time to explore the possibilities with his voice!
Great
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🔥🔥🔥
I'm not a big fan of CAS, but this song is amazing, for me it's the best on this album
Tasteful theme ...a great band
GENESIS Meravigliosi❤️
❤️🌹❤️
It's like slow eighties rock
This song reminds me of when I used to drive to Little Rock at night and driv around listening to genesis
This is a damn good song to send to an asshole boyfriend or girlfriend when you're DONE. Freaking perfection.
This album reminds the pilot episode of Ren & Stimpy when Ren asks “Hey Jasper! Where is Phil ?”.
A shame they didn’t continue with Ray.
Underrated Álbum
Sorry guys. The last song Genesis recorded is called Fading Lights. Fitting name for a song that even the band knew it could be their last
This is Genesis' final album without Phil Collins: ... Calling All Stations (1997)! Some 6 yrs ago, I had an ackward crush on a Chicago-born, now 38 yr old black woman, Porche, and I would play "Congo" on my stereo system! Sadly though, she'd later be fired from the local Save-A-Lot, around Valentine's, 2017: I ain't seen her since! This song reminds me of when we first met: July of '16! Though I'm a Libra, she still thinks that I am a Scorpio; just because of my bday being on the "borderline"(the 22 is so close to it!); she's one, born in 1984; November 6; Election Day Tuesday!!
Saludos a mi mamita !!!
"Congo" is a solid track from "Calling All Stations." I still think the album holds up, although I think there were some very good Genesis-y outtakes ("Anything Now," for example) that if kept would have made the album stronger. My only criticism would be that as good as the album sounds from a production standpoint, it comes across as a hybrid Mike and the Mechanics / Bankstatement album with a session vocalist. Ray Wilson is a fine vocalist, but he doesn't seem all out invested in Mike and Tony's songs. There are a few moments were Ray's vocals really shine, like the ending of "Calling All Stations," "One Man's Fool" and the second part of "Alien Afternoon," where he really lets loose, kind of the way Phil does at the end of "No Son of Mine." But still, I would never say that "Calling All Stations" is a bad album. I just wish they had given it one more go with Ray invested in the new material.
I wish Banks & Rutherford would get together again and do another album, Tony balances Mike out! Would be much better than Mike's Mechanics!
@@OriginalSamClark I do too man, Wish he was apart of the Mechanics, or Atleast collaborated more 🤞
@@OriginalSamClark Those of us who have followed Genesis from the beginning know that Banks and Rutherford are the two pillars that support this project of so many years of excellent music where, in my opinion, excessive prominence has been given to the singer. They should have at least tried to make a record of several male and female singers, as Tony Banks has done for example on his solo signed records. We have perhaps lost some jewel.
I really liked the whole album, the production quality is excellent, especially the last two tracks. The change of singer has not affected much. It's a different voice and a different style, for me the soul of Genesis was always Tony and Mike, this was the last album because Mike decided not to continue with the project.
This
Congo
The moment i saw that Mil Mi-17 utility helicopter fly over at the start in the music video.
Mitchell Werbell would be proud.
0:43 1:22 2:10 3:05 3:15
Post Phil out of Genesis, Calling All Stations album >>>>>> Dance Into The Light album
3:44 is the good stuff. Of course they cut it out for the single and that weird video.
Also featuring the talents of:
#RayWilson #NirZ #NickDVirgilio
biggest problem with this album is that the name Genesis is attached to it. Solid LP
America is in deep to get a handle into this America and that is the fancy in all of these America is by mean America 🇦🇷
BOOOOO
Why is there like 28 different versions of this song?
I've heard 3 versions
The original album version (this)
The single edit one
And the one from the music video
🚛 👛 👦
this is like Bad YES albums.
It's an Ok song, the synth solo sounds quite clumsy though.
There's a lot of good music to enjoy on CAS, but live the band just didn't gel.
At least live guitarist Anto Drennan got a reprieve in 2011 when Mike revived the Mechanics.
Different vocalist changes the sound completely. This was no longer Genesis, but it wasn't a bad song.
One of my least favorite tracks on an otherwise pretty good album. I agree with all who say they should have continued with Mr. Wilson.
Best song without Peter or Phil.
Well, looks like I'm going to be the devils advocate judging by the comment section. But it's a no from me! Genesis managed to move on when Peter left and after Steve left but it was game over when Phil called it a day.
This is not Genesis
Shite. Sounds more dated than Trespass. There are no adjectives available to describe how bad this sounds. Gone are the instrumental flourishes, gone is the atmospheric guitar. What we have here is sub standard American rock n roll and what sounds a lot like a drum machine. The best people left Genesis and poor Tony was left to conjure something with a bass player. Sad end.
