You know what? I kinda wish Nickelback had more songs like this earlier in their career. I guess im a sucker for dance tracks with a guitar groove. The lyrics still needed another pass or two in the chorus. "Funky little monkey" and "Coca Cola roller coaster" are odd, but I've heard far worse.
I didn't know that Kroger was into hard drugs; somehow his music sounds too plain for that. The guy has more street credibility than I would have ever thought. A real Chad.
When I listen to this song I'm immediately overcome with vaguely uneasy feeling, like I'm staring at something that's just a little off, but I can't pin down exactly why - enough to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and a dull ache in the pit of my stomach. But I can't pin down what it is exactly that's giving me the heebie-jeebies...which aspect of this song is distracting me from accepting it as real music - it's like a decent counterfeit - I can't see what it's trying to be, or what it's trying to convince me it is, but even drunk and semi-conscious on a bad day its artificiality would still be way too obvious, like embarrassingly obvious. Like, even though they're the ones trying to pull one over on me, I can't bring myself to be mad at them or feel threatened, not only because the faux item is of too poor of quality to pose a threat to me, but I feel embarrassed for them, and kinda guilty for so quickly catching onto the ruse they worked so hard on, and because they're making fools of themselves, and worse, in such a public way. And the more I look, the guiltier I feel. In fact I have to look away before it saddens me. For even the mediocrities who lack taste or judgement or awareness and rely on the most vulnerable people who can be duped by their act only because they haven't had opportunities to learn about the subject or know better - even wannabes like this draw my pity since I can see they're trying so hard and display this heartbreaking confidence so detached from reality. Then it hits me: I can pin down which element of their schtick is the giveaway that they're posers. And it hits me - it's everything im their music. Every part of it is so bad, but also so I'm incredibly boring. And the harder they try and the more confident they look, the sadder it makes me, until I'm quite depressed, and I just wish I could help them out in some way, cause this game can't possibly work out. No one deserves to be laughed off stage and mercilessly taunted, which there's no conceivable way they're not. I'm embarrassed for them. And so sick and depressed, and must look away, depart and think happy thoughts.
