  • One of the few creatures that can afford to turn its back on an enemy, the Porcupine has approximately 30,000 good reasons for doing so. Barbed quills on back and tail insure that it has few enemies in the first place, so this large Rodent confidently goes about its business at an extremely relaxed pace.

    Thank you for sharing these full vids. These are UA-cam treasure.
    Watching this, it reminds me what utter crap passes for nature documentaries today. I learn more in 3 minutes of Marty Stouffer's work than almost any glitzed up, over-wrought drek made today. Stouffer invented this medium, perfected it and is peerless ever since. He includes every aspect and the camera work is priceless. Just imagine the time and effort he had to put into these shots. And to think some ungrateful loonies criticized him for it. He married a message of true American nature conservation with television, and did it with real quality, value and artistry. Just amazing work. Marty Stouffer's Wild America is the gold standard.

      People that live in the same places that porcupines do. They explained at the beginning that porcupines, just like many rodents, are destructive on human property.
      Personally, if it can be helped, I’d look into an alternative means of keeping porcupines out, not kill the animal.

    щось таке ностальгічно-домашнє є в цих старих документалках 🤤 таке миле, добре, таке рідне і приємне ииии це все музика, я зрозуміла! а ще ж таке цікаве!! якась дитяча допитливість і захват
    зимові пейзажі незрозумілим чином знаходять нерізкий, але сильний резонанс у грудях. оце відстежування слідів, гасання серед хащів, спостереження за іншими лісовими звірами - усе це наче будить глибоко засілі спогади предків, щось таке могутнє, правічне і дуже рідне, дуже природнє, дуже затишне.. от так-так

    Just like Hedgehog. I think it would help wildlife a lot if people put salt licks around when they go hiking, all animals need salt and if you position a trail camera near the salt lick you will eventually get some amazing film, you would have to replace them when they are used up though because a lot of animals and birds will use it.

      They destroy tons of trees and kill tons of crops. They aren't native to north America. Brought here just like the mangy coyote or the POS iguana that is destroying the coral reef in Florida. Need erraticated to their land and tear up their land .

    • @EarthenCavy
      @EarthenCavy 2 роки тому +1

      @@mattcox3914 okay, someone clearly has mot done their homework about the origins of this species. This species of porcupine has been indigenous to this continent for three million years, dude, as in, they established populations in North America LONNNNG before the first humans ever arrived here. Where in the name of christ did you get the idea that porcupines are not indigenous animals? 🤣 Also, coyotes have been here for around one million years, so though they aren’t “as” indigenous as porcupines, they still belong here more than humans do, pal.
      The purpose of the destruction of trees is to provide homes for animals who rely on such places to raise their young. The only reason porcupine populations have become unmanageable is because humans are killing off their only natural predators. Nature evolved porcupines to serve an important purpose, but once again, as with most things, humans are screwing it up. The same goes for coyotes.
      I certainly hope I set your facts straight.

    • @mattcox3914
      @mattcox3914 2 роки тому

      @@EarthenCavy you certainly did. You certainly told me . Glad you love rats more than trees

    • @EarthenCavy
      @EarthenCavy 2 роки тому

      @@mattcox3914 oh my god, did you not pay attention to a single word I said? Nature created porcupines to damage the trees in order for animals to use their hollowed trunks as homes. Many of these animals disperse the tree seeds, and thus, continue the life cycle of said trees-a death to perpetuate multiple lives. Nature had a perfect system in order until it was disrupted by human encroachment and human eradication of the porcupine’s natural predators-namely, fishers.
      Porcupines are not rats, though they are rodents. That would be like me calling you a gorilla, because humans and gorillas are both primates.
      Stop being a deliberately obtuse child.
