Such a sweet, nostalgic song. Should have been a monster hit for the band.
It’s a monster in my head !! Been on my play list since it was released . 😉✌🏻
I think It was a hit at the time
@@MatheusGLima
It got major MTV play.
It was a hit for me, have listened to it at least once a day ever since it was released 😂
peaked at 20 in the UKs. not sure what country you're from, thou
There's always that one song that brings on a kind of happy sadness
This is it
I agree. The words "nostalgic" and "bittersweet" come to mind.
Cynical Basileus nice profile pic, Душане
I love Bloc Party and this song. Music video i love too also brings back memories.
Cynical Basileus 💯
It's like the end of the days of actual good bands on mainstream.
"I should have kissed you by water" Still gives me chills after all these years. very relatable idea of what "could be" in relationships and missed opportunities
Same 💖💖
Yep.
This combined with "I'd have let you if you asked me" really nails those mixed feelings you get when you look back at what could have been. On one hand you hate yourself for not making a move, but on the other hand you're wishing they just made the first move and it would have been easy. Sometimes we just don't know what to do in those situations and the opportunity slowly dissipates. Regardless, the memory stays with you forever; "I still remember".
I am convinced this song is about a potential homosexual relationship. The main singer claims the song was about a man. He is also very “dodgy” about songs about his sexuality. I think he is Bisexual and doesn’t really fit into the straight/gay boxes that people want to put him into.
Definitely!
one of the greatest songs on earth
Totally agree :D
Concordo.
Completely agree
❤
Fefr❤
2006: First time hearing them
2021: Still listening to them!!
Amen!
I was born 2006 and as a Baby i loved them😃
@@annaderblobfisch1904 lol how do you remember
Born in 1993 still remembering!! I Love them!! ♥️
So many memories when i listen to this song...thank you Bloc Party
same, unforgettable... will always love Bloc Party
Shit man, I'm just creating memories.
I still remember her. 14 yrs feels like yesterday, i should have kissed her.
I Still Remember
Bloc Party
I still remember
How you looked that afternoon
There was only you
You said it's just like a full moon
Blood beats faster in our veins
We left our trousers by the canal
And our fingers, they almost touched
You should have asked me for it
I would have been brave
You should have asked me for it
How could I say no?
And our love could have soared
Over playgrounds and rooftops
Every park bench screams your name
I kept your tie
I've gone wherever you wanted
And on that teachers' training day
We wrote our names on every train
Laughed at the people off to work
So monochrome and so lukewarm
And I can see our days are becoming nights
I could feel your heartbeat across the grass
We should have run
I would go with you anywhere
I should have kissed you by the water
You should have asked me for it
And our love could have soared
I would let you if you asked me
I still remember
I have autism but wasn’t diagnosed until I was 40. When I was 16 I met a girl from London who blew me away and I didn’t know what to do. This song reminds me of her.
you should have kissed her by the water
"Every park bench screams your name"
I love that line so much and I don't know why.
это правда
I always loved that line but it resonates even more now as an adult.
that line makes my heart ache so much 😢
One of the best teenage crush love songs of all time.
Conor, crushes are the worst. I lost a quarter of my life to them! Be careful.
Certified 00s classic. Beautiful instrumentation and production, and the lyrics really do pull at my heart strings. It just sounds like nostalgia
I get chills every time with this song. Kele (the lead singer) wasn't out when this song came out, and after he came out it had a totally new layer of meaning for me. Such a beautiful heartbreaking song.
He was, I can distinctly remember we knew he was at least bi sexual even with the first album, he didnt like to talk about it in interviews but everybody sort of knew he was gay buy didnt really care enough to push the issue I suppose. This song was openly about a same sex attraction between teachers
Sorry, but this song is about 2 teenagers not teachers. It's not only in the lyrics (teachers are not likely to be writing their names on ever train during a teacher training day while the kids are all off) but he's spoken about it loads.
I was Bloc Party fan back in the day, they were one of the few good indie bands that came to West Coast of Ireland regularly
He came out publicly about the time of the song, likely to get ahead of the Tabloids doing it. It may have been an open secret before that for your average listener, it wasn't known (or cared about) widely.
Again, he's spoken about this quite a bit, you don't have to take my word for it.
Regardless, wonderful song
If this song doesn’t conjure up in in your head a montage of a all the firsts of a teenage love then… I don’t know what will. Still can’t believe this song was released when I was 15 and it still stirrs up all the same butterflies now, about the same guy 😌 madness! Will always be one of my favourites!
Means alot to me this song. I'm sure some people understand.
I love the bassists voice being put through that distortion... Gives the harmonies a great, unique feel.
0:54 The essential lyric of this song "We left our trousers by the canal."
Yup. The lyric that reveals the song's gay undertones.
Its pretty dope how all across the world people can like the same good music.
Rob Banks So dope
so fuckin dope, dec 14, 2018 from manila Philippines
Yeah dope January 21 2020 outside of Albany ny
🇵🇭
Austria here 👍
In 2019... I still remember. This band, this song, this sentiment, what I felt when I first heard it.
This is one of those songs that just about everybody can relate to, and think of someone who fit the description - if not at school... somewhere.
Expertly worded squire..
Now this song makes you live through the emotions, again. Just like that, my heart scars re-open as wounds.
Same.
This song is just so beautiful, I still remember when my dad gave me a copy of their album back in 2007-2008.
This still gives me the happiest sad feels after 14 years. We all Still Remember our childhood sweetheart.
One of the sickest songs ever written honestly bloc party one of the most underrated bands
You should have asked me for it
I would have been brave
You should have asked me for it
How could I say no?......
Epic!! one of my favourite songs
I never really listened to Bloc Party, but damn i loved this song back in the days! 🥰
This is an excellent song but it is also a brilliant lesson in production and song dynamics. The way the song builds (particularly the intensification after "I should have kissed you..") is exemplary.
Greatest indie track ever?
Its defo in the top 1
I love he’s so romantic and the band backs him up
I fell in love with Bloc Party when I saw them in concert in Manhattan over ten years ago. And I still love their music to this day.
I’m listening to this song in quarantine, someone else doing it? 🤕
still one of the best songs out there, after all these years I still come regulary to listen to this gem.
Takes me back to a time, a place, a person.
Honestly one of the best songs ever made. Captures a specific feeling so perfectly. Timeless
I love this song from Japan.
I forgot how good block party were and how many great songs they made and how many great memories of days I wish I could re live. Until I started listening to them again in February 2023 🤘❤
Still puzzled by how the general public saw their sophomore album as a huge disappointment. Great song btw.
It's just as good as Silent Alarm in my opinion.
Four dissapoints me but is far from average& their new album HYMNS is amazing
A Weekend In the City is like Bloc Party doing a Post-Rock album, it's fucking mad.
I think it's better, deeper more mature themes. This song is an absolute classic and is so underappreciated.
It is just that their debut album set the bar so high with true gems like "banquet" or "this modern love", that when this one came out.. People where disappointed but over time you realize that it is just as good. Overall the entire album is solid.
And I still remember this song
wow.. 10 years already and even a bit more, good old bloc party.. good old high school times
Great band, never got the success they deserved
The ultimate sad banger
I stand dropping feeling in my gut with this song 😭😭😭
Summer 2007. Some of the best memories I'll ever have.
What a beautiful song reminds me of my youth ❤
This song sums up my university years in the 00s. That innocent happy sad nostalgia of chasing love interests and friends only to eventually see everyone move away after college, but yet looking back at those fun, care free years of early adulthood. We were freer then
This song is a fucking masterpiece! I am saying this as a Beatles fan.
This song is swooning - how the heck does it have so few views, compared to songs like Banquet or Helicopter? Apparently, romance isn't among the Bloc Party fans...?!
Love this song. Towards the end of the video, when he's rowing the boat, I always think "I wonder if he's back at the canal looking for his trousers?"
Only 500.000 views, i'm so sad, this band, this video, this song, are amazing, what's wrong?
Why should it have more? Greatness isn't defined by the # of views. Gaga & bieber can share the attention of the mindless
+gianni dep The Midia love Justin Bieber & Lady Gaga The Midia Hate Bloc Party
I love this Song from the first hearing for many years...❤❤❤
I wish I could recreate the chills I got the first time I listened to this song
J'ai l'impression de me prendre dix ans d'un coup et de voir ma prime jeunesse défiler instantanément. Cette chanson a le don de susciter la nostalgie !
Hello from the Philippines this is an awesome song
Hello from Germany yes it is :)
Each verse hits a sensitive chord in this song! Memories memories...
the feels :(
Used to listen to this band all the time. This was one of my favourite songs of theirs. Makes me feel sad the life I had at the time.
Bordel, j'ai mis tellement de temps à retrouver cette chanson ! Ca fait tellement longtemps que j'espèrais la retrouver.
I still remember they were such a great band.
This song explains my teenage years to a “T”.God those were the days..💯😢 miss them
Nostalgic music.........great song for traveling on the time! Amazing! I still remember "Eu ainda me lembro".
A song about close calls and missed opportunities. Haven't we all been there? It sucks, but great songs do come out of the experience. Thanks Bloc Party!
i still remember this nice song
The fireworks part at 2:39 has given me butterflies in my stomach many many times over the years. Charming video and a lovely song.
Gute Laune😊Ich liebe den Song
And here I am 14 years later still romanticizing living in England because of this song.
anybody in 2019
Yeah!!
Me!
Zuzana Feb 2020 now and the track is wonderful.
Still here 2020
This was the song that introduced me to the band and Hunting For Witches made me love them. I get all the feels listening to this track.
this song should’ve been more iconic than helicopter or banquet. this should’ve been their last nite or obstacle 1 moment. this song is amazing.
This song is so beautiful but so depressing :(
Depressing? How come? xD
@@justrollin1210It’s about a love that could have been, but never happened.
This is such a beautiful song.
This is such a wonderful song.
This was where it got me to love Bloc Party for the first time.
The song I still remember...
What if's and a life of regret.
Bitter-sweet memories
Love this band ❤
Quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard, and the most incredible video clip. Someday, i wanna meet them in person i can tell them how inspirationally beautiful they are.
my fave bloc party song like ever
Lost in you is our new love anthem ...this song was the 1st❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
that riff man......
just fucking epic!!!!
I love this song so much! I fell in love with it the first time I ever heard it!
How was this song not commercialised? Tune of a past summer. Memories
It was. I think to sell sneakers.
Best 2nd album. #BLOC_PARTY rocks!
This song reminds me of my first love. Probably my biggest love. A regret that im happy to have.
Still one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
And it's so fun to play on guitar.
This appeared in my Apple Music recommendations recently. I hadn’t listened to it in awhile and have had it on repeat throughout the day. 💕
Der Wahnsinns-Ohrwurm schlechthin! 👍👍👍👍
What a beautifiul song ❤
2007
Good memories
The defiance of Memory , the sweetest metronome , the ultimate weapon against the powers that Be
This makes me cry

Aww, nicest song..😊
So many awesome memories, this was always one of my chill songs on the drive home =) thank you so much for this song, the album & every other track guys =)
Gran canción...particularmente este grupo me encanta
This is the song that made me fall in love with Bloc Party. Now they're my favorite band.
adoro esse som, é viajante.
Very nostalgic music. Amazing stuff.
lol 2009.........
Nostalgic in reference to the lyrics, not when the song was released.
Naomi Prendergast
For me it's nostalgic in both senses of the word though. It may not be super old, but when you're young 5 years ago is a long time ago.
