Hi , I have a question why on amp heads like Marshall have 2 inputs of each 8 ohms or 16 ohms if only using one of them , ? Also what side do I use if only using one of them ? Hope that made sense. Thank you !
good info mate... can you explain the stereo option also? if the switch is in stereo, how the left and right inputs work? any idea if this style of jack can be used on a 2x12 setup? mono, both speakers work, in stereo the left and right would drive one speaker only. i have a spare one of these jacks and trying to put together a 2x12 version of a 1960a cab.
@@axemanstevecollins ah ok, so to answer your original question, yes. You could do that and it would be safe. BUT!!! Most of your signal will go into the 8ohm cabinet. I wonder if there is a way to wire your cabinets speakers in a way that they would match?
Ive got a crate v33 head with a 2x12 cab. Only one speaker is playing. There are 2 imputs, one 8ohm, one is 16ohm. One imput plays the left speaker, and one plays out of the right. Do i get a y cable to get both speakers to work?
Fantastic thank you! I have a V30 1x12 16ohm 2 input wired in parallel cab. Do I plug in to 1 of the 16 ohm inputs of the cab and the 16 ohm input of my Marshall or do I have to use the Marshall 8 ohm mono input ? 😅
Hi, what would be the advantage of connecting two single speaker 16-ohm cabinets in the two 8-ohm input jacks vs one single speaker 16-ohm cabinet in the 16-ohm input jack. Would you gain or lose any volume or maybe get a fuller sound. Thanks for the simplified explanation of how to figure how to properly hook up speaker cabinets.
Great video. However, could you make a video how to set up all those buttons at the back of the amp so that I could get a sound from the amp? I am sure that on my 6100 LM everything works but I must have pushed some by-pass button and I am not getting any sound from my amp. Thanks.
I've just brought a 2x12 unloaded I've 2 x16 ohm speakers it has mono and stereo switches on back so am I right in thinking I would run in mono to the 8ohm jack on back of my amp? Thanks advance
Question. Can I connect a 280W Marshall 1960AV cab and a 300W Marshall 1960B cabinet to a 100W matshall head (JCM2000 DSL) to make a full stack or will it be a problem with the wattage difference of the cabs? Both cabs are 16 ohm.
@@RDamps Ok awesome, thanks! I picked the cab up so long. Just waiting for the weekend to go get a second speaker cable. Wasn't aware that instrument cables are a HUGE NONO when connecting speakers to cabs XD Luckily no disasters of yet.
Great video!!! Quick question: I have a 2x16 Ohm cabinet (G12 Celestion speakers). What input should I use in my amp (Marshall AFD100)? I have available (1x8 Ohm), (1x16 Ohm), (2x16 Ohm) and (2x8 Ohm). Thanks in advance for the help.
I have a Randall RH100. Which has an output of 8 ohms. I have 2 Peavey 5150 cabinets both are 16 ohms. There is no switch of ohms except a knob with LIFT om the left side and GND on the right side. And it has 2 outputs next to that. Off course I should put 2 cables in it 1 in the left and 1 in the right. But on what side do I have to put the switch? LIFT?Or GND?
That's good information also there's another question say I have an English amp but I live in the USA on the voltage selector what do I do just set it to 110 or 120 volts?

Hi ..good video..I have a question please ........I have a Pedal baby 100 Orange head (100 watt).......The speakers cabinet 2x12 has two inputs Power rating: 120 W at 8 Ohm or 2 x 60 W at 16 Ohm.....shall I plug only one power cable or it is better two at the same cabinet? The Head output says 1 x 8 Ohm , 2x 16 Ohm and 1 x 16 ohm speaker. Thank you. Cheers
Hi Gian, with your cabinet I would just use one cable. Using 2 makes no difference. By using 2 it just equates to the same as using one. So use the 1x8 ohm out on your Pedal Baby head into the 120w 8ohm on the cabinet.
Great video. I've always understood the Ohm halving. I do have a question though. I have an old 70's Traynor Head (only has a single 8 Ohm output) What are my options connecting to a 4x12 Marshall cab if I want to get full use out of it? Is there a safe selector/input combination on the cab to get usage of all 4 speakers? Or is my only option to either re-wire or load with speakers that will total 8 Ohms? Thanks in adavance!
To add some more context to this question... I know that as is I can place the selector on stereo and only use either side at 8 Ohms (2x12 at once) giving me 150 watt overhead. My amp head being about 100 watts I know that is more than sufficient. I am really just interested in (safely) hearing the tonal possibilities of all 4 speakers firing at once even though I am nowhere close to the 300 watt overall rating of the whole cab :) Additionally, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I've always been told it is "okay" to have a higher wattage rating on your speakers, but not the other way around (example: head cranked at 100 watts and speakers only rated at let's say 50 watts. That would blow the speakers and potentially kill your transformer(s)) Is this correct?
Thanks! This is all so confusing. I've asked these questions in guitar groups but sadly many guitar players in these groups either don't want to help or they just want to show off how much they know while speaking in overly-technical terms. This was at least simple to understand. One remaining question is, can you recommend a good mid-priced (under $500) 1x12 or 1x10, or 2x12 or 2x10 cabinet that would be good for blues, rock, and metal?
Glad to help. I all honesty i think the Harley benton 2x12 with V30’s is a bargain. I would certainly go with a 2x12 to cover all the ground you want. A 1x12 will struggle with metal.
with the cab in stereo could you use the two 8 ohm connectors on the cab and the 2 speaker jacks on the amp setting the output selector on the amp to 4 ohms?
My Valvestate Marshall Amp out puts 150 watts and says total load must not be less than 4 olms and the Marshall VS412 says 140 watts RMS and says 8 olms. Do these work with each other?
