Crazy how a NFL medical assistant made the executive decision to reroute the ambulance and that was the difference that saved his leg.

I wish they would expand upon who exactly made the initial call to go to a hospital 45 minutes away. Something is definitely missing because I’m here to tell you as a 23 year fire department veteran, the medics just don’t go to a hospital of their choice. There should be strict protocols and standard operating procedures in place that dictate where a patient is to be transported to. Very interesting to say the least. Damn lucky his assistant trainer spoke up and advocated for him.

I was told for almost 2 weeks that they couldn't find a pulse in my foot and they'd most likely have to amputate my leg from the knee down. I also had that external fixator (metal rod device) attached to me for about 2 months and had 12 surgeries done; it's 5 months later now, I'm able to stand on both legs and I'm so thrilled at the idea of being able to walk once again. I just thought I'd share my story if anyone else is going through this too and they're feeling down. Keep fighting.

Bears trainer getting Zach to a trauma center fast was huge- plus the NFL has more resources than an ordinary school and family

Never let an injury stop you from what you love to do. I tore my ACL in the last game of my 8th grade year on JV after the varsity players and school were asking me to play varsity in 9th grade and I came back in 10th grade as RB on varsity and scored 2 touchdowns our first game against one of the best teams in our division. There are players playing football and basketball with 1 arm or hand or missing fingers and they don't let that stop them. Especially with something like a tear or any breaking, after treatment, you'll be stronger than you were before the injury. Just know that if no one else believes in you, other people who have come back from injuries and I believe in you.

Whenever people see injuries like that, they tend to not watch, but I see something in it. I see... hope... I see a new beginning. And to Zach, if you are reading this: That was a new beginning for you. You keep following your dreams and never give up. A lot of people are here for you. I met you at training camp, and when I saw you up and walking around... well it showed everyone that you must never give up. Stay strong brother! And to everyone, "Never give up. Tore my ACL 2 years ago at RB. 6th game of the season in my junior year, I was doing very very well. Next season my senior year, started off very well, I was going off again. 4th game of the season broke my collarbone do to a late hit on the sidelines. If I wouldn’t have gotten injured there could have been so many opportunities, I broke my highschool’s record for most rushing yards in a game, 3 times, also beat the touchdown record once. It was an easy opponent though, we ended up winning 62-23. Im currently working on becoming a script writer for live action tv shows and movies. Life can change real quick man.

As of right now im recovering from another knee dislocation on my right knee. and the first time it happened it wasnt bad at all, it was put back into place and recovery was fast. but this time it was pretty bad. almost needed surgery and it was out of place for almost 2 hours and it was a bad fall that caused it. but im thankful that i am in the comfort of my home and didnt need anything like this.
