For me I've listened to a lot of Electronic Music so when I entered K-pop I already know how to identify each genre-- it's something I can't really explain well lol I suggest watching guides in identifying stuff like this here on YT as well 😅
usually the types of synths and bases differentiate them, also the sometimes the tempo, some r like fast and energetic while others are more calm and chill
My main advise when trying to figure out a song's genre is: listen to the drums and rhythm section. And then you can pay attention to other instruments because, yes, it's usually a matter of tempo (speed) and also the use of certain synths, samplers, sound effects, etc. Some examples if you feel like watching this video again: -Listen to the drum pattern in the Moombahton songs. It's the same as the "riddim" in Reggaetón music. For reference: listen to the drum beat in Reggaetón songs like "No Me Conoce (Remix)" by Jhay Cortez or "Ginza" by J Balvin and then listen to Moombathon songs like the ones by KARD in this video or "Latata" by (G)I-dle, "Blood Sweat & Tears" by BTS, etc. -Same goes for Trap: it uses the beats you'll find in Trap Rap songs (those relatively "soft" but intense hi hats that sound like they've been "chopped" very quickly). In this case you can listen to the drums in "F&N" by Future or "Bodak Yellow" by Cardi B. Trap EDM essentially took that specific Trap beat and then gave it the rave treatment. -Deep House and most House subgenres rely on the typical "oontz oontz oontz oontz" 4/4 beat pattern (kick drum + hi hats) and that's usually the main giveaway when you try to identify House music in general. Deep House tends to have a warm, spacey sound and the best examples for me are "Can You Feel It?" by Fingers Inc. or "Midtown 120 Blues" by DJ Sprinkles. -The main thing that sets Tropical House apart from the others is the addition of a synthetic "pan flute" melody in most of the songs. That's a prominent feature in the chorus of Iz*One's "Violeta", for example, and you'll also find it in "Save Me" by BTS, "Playing with Fire" by Blackpink, and countless other examples like the ones in this vid. Sometimes these are combined with other genres but that one detail will make them recognizable. I could go on but maybe this is a solid start : ) For now I'll repeat what I said at the beginning: always listen to the DRUMS because they can reveal all the key ingredients (like tempo/speed and what type of tools and software were used).
