Thank you for the series of videos on the XT - you're one of the few people on UA-cam to have covered it extensively. I really appreciated the strengths and the drawbacks. It helped me make a decision to buy one today... and also get a Fireboard to let it control the fan and the pit temperature.
Great information Tommy. Those Masterbuild grills look pretty awesome. Maybe some day I will have one but it’s good to know now how they work. Have a wonderful weekend Tommy.
They are! I started with a MB Cabinet smoker and it did great, just too small. I went to a Pit Boss Pellet and disliked it from the first smoke. It had very little smoke flavor. Came home to MB GF Series and have been impressed with the operation and taste!
Great video mate...Just discovered you channel, will definitely sub. Ive cooked on GMG, Treager, Kamado Joe, and Yoder. This grill really caught my eye, but my only question is about the controller, the temp algorithm and temp control probe. Ive read some reviews that the temp swings when opening the pit are wild, and the software and algorithm are not designed well enough to compensate for these swings and can cause the grill to just run the fan and over shoot the target temp every time. Have you experienced this??? and if so how did you combat it ??
These are great tips..560 for 4 years and still kicking but once I get a new house I'm getting an xt and if I got 2 masterbuilt than so be it lol plenty of times I could use bigger or smaller or both lol
I have been so close to pulling the trigger on one of these. The inaccuracy of the temp gauge concerns me. What would you do if you had ribs on at 235 and the pit was actually 275 internal? Turn the temp gauge on the controller down to 200? Open the lid?
At the moment I am running my initial burn off for my Masterbuilt Gravity XT. Do you leave the three doors open when not in use to prevent the seals from compressing and leaking air in the future? I bought the 1050 cover (Per Masterbuilt) to keep it covered with the doors open when not in use.
@@thegalleryBBQ I have dealt with vacuum equipment that says to not keep the door lid closed or air may leaks may occur in the future from the gasket deforming. Since these are air seals as well I wonder if the same can happen. Perhaps they don't compress over time and seem rather hefty. Of course you have to keep the doors shut for the coals to burn totally out or just use all your fuel. Does Masterbuilt sell replacement gaskets?
Omg loved this ❤ because I've always wondered if i could start a fire on the barbie and definitely made some steaks that came out tough (never post those...lol cause it's too embarrassing 😅) cheers to learning from your tips 8)
After a smoke, I always have some fuel left in my hopper, as we all do. My Smoker is covered when not in use, but I always have difficulty starting my next cook. I suspect it may be the leftover fuel has become damp? Would that be your best guess?
shake shake and shake that bottom grate that sits above the ash catcher. If its even a tad clogged your gonna have problems. Also, i use 2 firestarters.
Im really close to pulling the trigger on one of these bad boys, my only worry is the lack of customer service ive heard so much about.. I really hope MB up there game in this department.? Oh and the wild temp swings people have been experiencing when opening the lid is a bit disheartening. Great video tho mate!
I just got the 560. I am having an issue where i set the temperature lets say to 250F and while there is certainly a fire and the temp is running at 500f+ the display is reading well below the set 250F. Then eventually a err4 code will sometimes kinck in. But the charcoal is def lit and the grill is hot. Way hotter than i set it for. Is this a temp probe issue? Would replacing it be the best fix? Or is it something else ?
I have an 800 for almost 2 years now. The fan just started working intermittently in the middle of a cook. Have you run into this? The door sensors are tight and it starts up fine. About 1-2 hours in the fan stops, temp drops close to 80 degrees. I shut it off and restart it. Nothing. Then to test it, I crank the temp up and it can just turn on after 30 minutes or not at all
I found that the switch on the ash bucket door was playing up and sometimes when I add wood to the basket you'd need to push the switch a few times to get the fan going. Have been times I'd check the app and see the temp dropping off so that tipped me off

you'll love it....
Nice job sir, thank you.
Spot on every point Tommy as always! I might add for the char griller folks, everything Tommy said applies to the 980 and Even the auto kamado!
Great stuff, can’t wait to own one some day
I sure do love my new XT, and THANK YOU for being my guide!
Glad you are enjoying it.
More great info! 👏👍🍻
My man..

They defiently are but have mellowed out. You can press that hold button. Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. I love this Pit.

More great tips, Tommy! One of these days, I may get one of the smaller ones?🤔
Go for it!
Great video my friend…….a must watch for all!
Thanks my man...

I never go by what the temp gauge says. they always wrong. I adjust using my Chefstemp which is dead on.
@ thanks for the response. Have you found the xt to not have the wild temperature swings?
Great tips bro! I feel like I could use one of those grills without any issues after watching this
Right on!
Love your videos! I’m learning a lot. Do you know or can you measure the thickness (gauge) of the steel in the XT vs 1050?
Not sure-. But what i do know is they(1050-xt)are in two different leagues.

I don't and have never heard of that. Have you read that somewhere?

@@thegalleryBBQ I will give that a shot. I use two as well. Thanks!
I took a shot every time he flipped his finger at the camera.... I can't feel my legs anymore.
Thats a good thing. lol

Great video tho mate!
any problems. LMK...... Its an awesome pit!
The real trick is being able to find one
just got the 600!
your gonna love it. Any questions. LMK

Your fan is hooked up right. I mean. Its really hard for me to say.
Could be an issue with your grill controller. I just replaced mine in my Gravity 800 after only a year and a half or 35 cooks.
I replaced the temp probe and has worked great ever since
Is this a bigger grill than the 1050? Or is it considered bigger because there’s more grate space?
id guess grate space
@@thegalleryBBQ thank you for responding!
@@jeffa5616 always. If i don't you can get me here gallerybbq@gmail.com
@@thegalleryBBQ do you prefer the cast iron grates or the steel grates ?
@@jeffa5616 steel for the simple fact they are more easy to keep clean.

I have not. I have asked in my Facebook group?? 30k strong

On my 500 that I got on release it happened a few times. Fan was dirty as all heck, pull it off clean it and around it with compressed air
