Area T Bridge, Neck and Fender Gen 4 Neck Sound clips. Change out video of my Dimarzio Area T 417 Neck Pickup for a Fender Gen 4 Noiseless Neck. The Bridge is a DiMarzio Area T 615 DP424 for all Bridge and Middle Audio. The guitar is a 2014 USA Fender Telecaster with 500K CTS pots. The amp used was a Suhr Badger 30, with a clean boost pedal and mild reverb coming from a Strymon Flint.
Both are great sounding Tele pickups if you want noise canceling pickups but want to keep that single coil Tele tone. The Area T Neck was a little brighter on the higher strings and the bass seems to be in a different frequency. The Gen 4 was less aggressive and seemed to have a softer attack to me. You listen and decide for yourself! Thanks for watching!

Especially the side-by-side-comparison is really informative. All reviews should be this way. Thank You :-)

They both sound good, but the Gen4 sounds like a generic “Fender guitar” to me; it could almost be a Strat. The Area T sounds like a Telecaster.

At 7 seconds the video shows the bridge pickup being used. I corrected the wording in the gear used section. Thanks

Heh, well, guess I’m gonna have to get a DiMarzio bridge pickup with a Fender neck pickup 🤷🏼‍♂️😜 lol

Glad you gave it a listen. 500k Works great to brighten up the neck. I ended up adding a 100k resister from the bridge pickup hot lead to ground as a treble cut because this Area T bridge pickup was the hotter one and was a bit too bright for me.

So your impedence went from 500k to about 80k, that's drastic. A 1M resistor would have been more appropriate. Bringing things down to maybe to a 375k pot.

This was from the hot lead (@ the selector switch) of the pickup to ground, parallel. I like the brightness the 500k adds to the neck. Changing the pot would darken both pickups. I tried 1M and it had no effect. Then did from 470k to 24k before I settled on the 100k. I was more worried about the sound of it than the math behind it. You should try it yourself if you have a bright pickup and get back to me.

Sounds great, Dimarzio have a warm sound for me, but the Gen 4 in middle position sounds great too. The dimarzio help with canceling the Hum?

    • @gregsteffey1266

Ebel Aquino yes the DiMarzios are him canceling but stay bright and clear like single coils. Thanks for the comment

I thought the Fender pickup was scooped a little. Nice highs and lows not as much mids

Greg Steffey great! Im contemplating having those dimarzio’s. My American Tele still stock but increase gain always get me a lot of hum.
      Thanks for letting me know

I've been wanting to hear those Area T pickups with 500k pots. I think the Dimarzio sounds mre alive. I think I'm going to have to give them a try again witty 500k pots. With 250k i think the bass strings sound mushy.

Both sounds excellent i want to use the area t for my baja tele but i am canfused that the s1 switching with area t works well?because I noticed that it is a humbucker. How does it sound like?

    • @gregsteffey1266
      @gregsteffey1266  4 роки тому

This set up did not have the S1 switch and I sold this guitar so I am not sure. The S1 switch is really just a switch so you can use it for any mod that works with a switch. It should work the same as it does now if you wire it in the same way. Good luck!

Actually I think I did use an S1 on this guitar but it may have been for a mod that I was trying at the time.

One thing I love about Fender single coils is the separate magnets for each string. Most humbuckers use one magnet for all strings. Makes for not much string separation, but does cancel hum. Fender noiseless are stacked humbuckers with separate magnets for each string. Noiseless gets the knod as far as I'm concerned.

Are the Dimarzios noisy? I have a stock old Fender Telecaster and I'm sick of the noisy they are.

Di Marzio AreaTs are noise canceling so no noise. Way quieter than stock single coils.

Sorry I don’t. It’s been a while and I don’t have the guitar any longer. I would just do a google search. Depends on the switches, pots etc you use.
