The Jinhao is actually a very nice pen, in my experience the problem comes to quality control sometimes being inconsistent. I have 3 Jinhao 80s, two work great, the third has drying and flow issues. I've had my all black for a little more than a year and it's holding together very well.

I love my Jinhao 80 with a Lamy 1.1 nib on. I use it with Lamy Turquoise ink which shows the shading of this lovely ink.
Thanks to you identifying the name of the part I lost on my Lamy 2000 (the clutch ring) I was able to find a seller online and order it. So I’ll have a working Lamy 2000 again! Thanks to you!
And I ordered two of the Jinhao 80s from AliExpress. My fault entirely. The white one and the brown one. I’ll likely put Lamy nibs on them. Good video, thanks for the inspiration.
That’s great news! I have another tip: if your cap starts to not snap on as nice as it used to, you can take the clutch ring out, stretch it out slightly, and the snap will be better.

I own both. I prefer the Jinhao with Lamy 1.1 nibs. What ticks the boxes for me is the price as in i'm not afraid to use and abuse it and it's less slippery than the Lamy. I do however wish the Lamy nibs came in a gold finish.
You are not stupid and thanks for the review. I got a grey on and the nib was awful and cut into the paper. I had to use sand paper to get it somewhat ok. Fine but writes almost as a stub. I got stub nibs and the black stealth one coming. The cap swivels. Does yours as well?
Oh no it writes like a stub? That’s odd. I’m not at home right now to test, but yeah I think my cap swivels if I force it. But not on its own
@@Reflekks in my effort to smooth the nib I used sandpaper so that may have actually turned it more into a stub It writes way smoother now, but I’m just noticing that is more of a stub medium than an actual fine. I have not gotten an extra fine or the 1.1 or 1.5 yet so we will see. The cap does not swivel on its own but it does not stay in place like a lamy would.
Jinhao 80 nib is rather dry. Swapped it with a spare Lamy Safari medium, and now it writes like a high-end pen. Best of both worlds!
I was totally gonna get one, until you revealed the nib and snap cap.

I got one for the heck of swapping the nib with the Lamy Z50 nibs... I'm suddenly a Lamy pseudo Safari user...
It might have been a better comparison if you had used the same ink in both pens. In using fountain pens, the three factors are the pen itself, the ink, and the paper. Youcdid use the same paper, using the same ink would have put the focus more on the difference between the pens.
