    One point of contention. As somebody who whipes the tip off all my dropper bottles, checks the caps for buildup and closes them at 1/2 speed for the best seal, dropper bottles don't dry out, people are lazy. If you want something to work flawlessly, then you have to do what it takes to get that result.
    FYI, the best dropper design I've found is from Reaper. The thicker nozzle with the wider base means the neck never splits in transit or from the factory sealing process. So take Reaper's bottle design and combine it with the flexibility and volume of the clear stuff from Vallejo at 18ml, and you'll have the best droppers in the business.

      @user-mc4sq3fk5d 4 місяці тому +3

      Excellent point. Saying people can not provide proof of a good dropper bottle design is lazy also. P3 didn’t work before so let’s do it again.

    I'm excited by a lot of this! I own the whole P3 range, and use it for 95% of my painting. I like how pots are still a possibility over dropper bottles, and that Mat isn't completely 'bottle-pilled' and sees the upside to pots. I also wanted to say that one of my favorite parts of P3 is that it's not in a 'triad system'. Every paint needs to be mixed to get a shade and highlight, which really makes me feel more involved in my painting. I hope this factor is carried over to the revamp. Looking forward to the Kickstarter, and trying to figure out how to avoid buying the whole range at once.

      I've only got a few but my god I wish other paint ranges wet blended the way p3 paints do. I absolutely love the pots, I'm sick of my dropper bottles getting gunked up and exploding everywhere when I squeeze too hard

  • @Vorpal_Wit
    @Vorpal_Wit 4 місяці тому +1

    If you do dropper bottles, it important to use the one that have the sealing cone inside the tip. Those seat that cone into the top of the nozzle and keeps them from leaking or drying out.

    I have PTSD from the Citadel paint change of the mid-90s when they changed from the P3 type pots to the black screw on cap paints. As a result I bought out most of my LGS stock of P3. I'll give SFG a chance, but I couldn't risk living through that again.

    P3 was revealed in a series of articles by Mike McVey in No Quarter magazine, Privateer Press's equivalent of White Dwarf. It was obvious from the design of the pots the paint was manufactured by HMG Ltd in Manchester who also used to make the Citadel Paint range amongst others.
    It's interesting HMG don't want their name mentioned. Perhaps this is because the manufacture of miniature paints isn't the company's prime business.

    What I'd like to know is; once the Kickstarter is long and over and they're being produced en mass, will they continue to do both pot and bottle or will one be disregarded? Because I don't want to be buying a bunch of pots on the Kickstarter only for them to produce them only in droppers. I like dropper bottles but those p3 pots are awesome. I've got a bunch that are like 7 years old I don't get gunked up tips I don't have issues with the pot rim having dried up paint and the paint itself is still really creamy and smooth. I don't have cracked pot lids like other people have, maybe I'm just lucky or maybe I look after my pots better I don't know

    It's interesting to see mentions of 'creamyness' with ProAcryl, because if it has a positive property, it's that it doesn't come so thick as to need significant thinning. So when I compare it to Army Painter or Citadel, it's a very different behavior. The major weakness of the matte is that the color changes quite a bit from wet to dry: You have to know that the highlights need to be brighter than you think when wet.

    His comments on the "flattest matte you've seen in your life" really struck home for me. I really loved PA at first and then came to dislike it more and more over my attempts at using it. I switched to Ak and Vallejo's new formulations because they're matte, but not the same level of matte. The biggest problem paint for me that made me really start to dislike PA was actually their standard black paint. I don't mind doing 5 thin layers to get a really nice looking red as opposed to one or two coats that don't end up looking at good. Citadel is too satin for me, but PA and Scale75 are too matte for me as well

    Good video gents and welcome more of this type of content. I have a pretty good track record on business and corporate decision making and my guy says that P3 failed for a reason and this interview did zero to make me think it will succeed as P3 2.0. A bit of stuck in the middle mindset. We want to keep the heritage but need to compete with a lot of great competitors who have come out since our decline and demise. You can’t go half way. His thoughts on keeping the old pots simply is living in the past, a failed one. There IS a reason no one creates new ranges with pots and P3 is not Citadel on the heritage front. Trust me, they will try the pots and other old as and keep a few diehards but lose out in the greater market. I wish them well but I foresee a fail.

    The amount of weight that "Coverage" gets these days is just super frustrating because it takes control away from me if the paint is made to have heavy coverage. It also makes it frustrating for new painters because they don't understand these differences so when they have less coverage they freak out and wonder what they are doing wrong whereas they just need a couple more layers. The chemistry of paint is antithetical to that concept. All pigments behave differently. I will always paint 10 layers over an underpaint if I want "coverage" with something like a yellow. It does take time to learn all this but I hope the results look better.
