And that includes masking cartoon characters in all that stuff❓
It takes around 45-50 mins .... I saw his desktop time at the corner 😁
It's means not easy? 😁
@@qalamahmadkhazain6220 yeah
you think thats alot of time? you realize things like this can take litterally days
@@qalamahmadkhazain6220 nothing is easy in life
Hari Hadwin no it doesnt hes also explaining thats why
Good one, but you could also set the mask layer from "add" to "none" and you will see the main footage and get no black. Also, you can duplicate your main layer and add the mask. In this case, you don't need to do that TrkMat thing.
True, but the adjustment layer does come in handy if you are copying and pasting masks onto different size footage. So many times I've masked out a 4k clip and then tried to apply that mask to a 1080 clip, vfx shot, etc and it doesnt work correctly
True, but it's likely less processor intensive to do one adjustment layer as a mask (composited down), then 6 video layers with a mask. Both achieve the same result -- I'm just guessing it's going to make a big difference in rendering time -- AND if you apply an effect to the video itself, those separate layers are not going to function as a whole, and you'd get some kind of artifact showing the edge of the mask where the video overlaps.
This one step saved me around 20 minutes for each mask I do. Thank you so much for this!
Ahhh, wow... I can't believe after 10 years of editing, I never thought of this myself 😂😂. Thanks Josh, great tip bro! ✊✊👌👌
DJTronuk awesome bro! Yeah! This technique is a life saver!
Someone please help Im trying to apply a mask to the Adjustment layer but it doesnt want to apply to the adjusttment layer
it Keeps applying to the actual video whenever I click on the screen of the video to apply the mask it switches down to the video !
HELp
@@SaltedMallows Maybe you are confusing the Video's window, with the Composite (project) window, It can happen easily because the video's window opens OVER the Composite window, if you happen to double click (ie click twice ;) on the name,.. Then you don't see it pop up and think you are in the Composition window! :O
or u can just use a rotoscope and save your time
Doesn't work for all footage.
It's OK for UA-camrs or student projects.
Just give it a shot. You know how time consuming rotoscope can take.
Masking is a actually the proper way to rotoscope. AEs Rotobrush is a great tool, especially with its latest advancements with refine edge, but old school masking is the proper way to rotoscope :)
Rotobrush... Tracking mask... can be used and they may be more practical than this.
Masking out body parts at a time is really smart! thanks for the tip, still relevant 2 years later!
A key technique when rotoscoping is to move the vertices in groups. Not one by one. That way you maintain the shape and reduce the risk of chattering edges. Also create ...keyframes.
If you're tracing a ball that flies up and down. Trace first the lowest position, the highest and then the final low position. Then adjust the in-betweens, correcting the positions where after effects goes wrong.
Thank you so much for pointing out using adjustment layers, for anyone who does not know, if you have everything in one mask and you mess up, it is a few hours of cleaning up you have to do. Thank you again for this technique. Almost feel stupid with the answer being right under the nose the whole time.
I never thought of using adjustment layers to correct masks! There's also the option I've always used of using a subtraction mask over poured edges, but not sure which method would be faster.
why do you keep saying ligaments...? good tutorial...footage crate guys did the same type of tutorial
Appreciate it but this is not easier and not faster.
I wish they put some effort into some AI masking instead of AI for stupid phone cameras.
i think you mean limb instead of ligament but great vid!
gotskittles WHERE IS THE LAMB SAUCE?🤔 * Gordon Ramsay voice*
Oh yeah you meant limb
so
WHERE'S THE LIMB SAUCE?
is that really better than roto brush plus refine tool? I mean roto brush looks much faster and the result it's still good
Thank you very much for the tip, I know this was in 2017, but the mask mode can be set to none instead of applying it to an adjustment layer, the less layers in a compostion, the better haha.
yeah
This was helpful thanks
why not mask Track?
@Wheelz *in the morning
... ligament...? You mean limbs?
I like your video.
I think is not really necessary add "adjustment layer"
In the mask there is a option called "none" and it's for dont change the alpha channel.
I recommend to you use mocha Pro plug in for mask and Rotoscoping. Congratulations for you video.
This tutorial looked great but I'm having an issue (I'm new to AE). I created the adjustment layer but when I start using the pen tool it creates a mask on the original clip instead of the adjustment layer. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
you have the original clip selected instead of the adjustment layer. tap on the adjustment layer
@@ryth9121 when i click on the adj layer it simply goes back to the video layer as soon as i touch the edit are with a pen and if I double click the adj layer it goes white. Tutorial is dogshit with bought likes/comments
@@engage1942 same thing for me. Ive tried everything, even locking the clip. It just flashes and doesn’t allow me to use pen tool.

if any of yall are still watching this at this time. don’t bother. watch noemie.edits masking video it’s so much more easier and quicker. i’ve tried both methods. this one and noemie.edit method and noemie’s is easier trust me!!
I masked a lightsaber and watched so many tutorials and never can make my mask invisible can someone please help me I’m desperate
Change the mask from “add” to “none”
Ok thank you,if I have any problems I’ll tell you
Sometimes I accidentally double click on the adjustment layer, then the mask disappears and only appears on the adjustment layer (which is a white canvas). How would I be able to get the mask to go back to show on the footage (ctrl+Z doesn't work)
*I agree with the thumbnail.*
99/00 was sotNice tutorialng called Vision DSP or DST or sotNice tutorialng and didn't quite work the way soft soft does, but tNice tutorials video helped so
all of these tricks are great but it still takes so much time! IT SUCKS!!! Mocha or DFT has auto masking available its automatic! Mocha is tricky to learn but you can track the masks to the movement of the body parts so its much faster because it moves the masks for you.
He's clicking everywhere and he knows what every button does. clicking by mistake " where did it go?!?!" Start pressing random keys
actually your good idea is end up with a shit pose masking is old bold worse method which u used here roto brush was awesome new idea but AIO Mocha track Shape rotoscoping is life savior god father of all this in world of masking !!!!
Why not just RotoBrush the easy frames that don't intermix with the background, and set smaller masks to cover the finer details. Saves time in my opinion as you no longer have to do the larger easier masks by hand, and you're only doing select areas. I can explain differently if needed.
I agree. Rotobrush is better and quicker.
Masking can be so time consuming! Hah but definitely going to try this out for my next mask, awesome video man.
Yo thanks for checking it out! Yeah segmented masking will change out life for the positive
Olufemii Tutorials it makes so much since too!
As far as i know, the FIRST tNice tutorialng We should do is SET THE TEMPO, it is very crucial.
interesting but is there a way to isolate a moving person out of a still background automatically. By identifying moving pixels vs still pixels...?
No, unfortunately not. To this date you still have to manually mask out every frame of a video.
I know this video is old but did it not annoy anyone else when he kept on saying 'ligaments' instead of 'limbs'??
Am I missing something..? Or is he saying that instead of going through all the tracking ONE time...do it 6 times.?...
I get that with this method you don't have track as tightly but still...at the end of the day it seems like the two techniques take the same amount of time over all
i think, that it's biggest advantage is, that it gives you a healthy change of perspective. instead of focusing your attention once on the erratic movement of the outline of the masked shape, you focus it multiple times on the steady movements of the shapes that constitute it. just think about the creative possibilities, that this opens up for you. :)
videos on pretty much everytNice tutorialng. Feels like I can finally move forward with making soft.
TNice tutorials is very easy to understanding.i have soft soft tutorial Tamil language .keep on each other's.greet job dudes
Shit that's exactly what I was thinking that masking in after effects is sooo annoying there has to be a better way lol so i found your video! Thank you
Ok yeah that's the perfect word to describe it. I've been sitting on it for years and i'm just so intimidated by it. But tNice tutorials video helped more in
why my masking always shifting positions after editing? this annoying me all night and almost got crazy!
I've always wanted to make soft but every ti I download software to do so, I just look at the 5,000 buttons/settings, cry for a few
It s very hard and booring
The one tNice tutorialng I would like to do (and tNice tutorials will completely convert ) is to copy and paste items from one project to another, it just doesn't
This is good but I need the video for people right before this.... I'll check your page and see if you offered a link for cutting that chick out the scene.
Ahhhhhhh this is so simple but so smart, god only knows how many hours I have spent trying to mask the whole subject at once 😂😂
Nice tutorial Micheal, great video to get us started. May you tell - how do I link two or more channels (in the rack channel) as to share the sa
how to set the duration of a mask? i only need to apply a mask to the first 2 seconds of my video
In The setup If the master channel is located in the top, next to the counter, then no - IT stays witNice tutorialn acceptable limits, when I play so of
What’s the advantage of using the adjustment layer / track matte technique? I assume you could just duplicate the layer and mask each “ligament” individually anyway?
But is not possible to make a tracker for each single point of the mask? In this way only the program would work
honestly, it's not worth it. it's faster if you just do the whole body, especially if there isn't a lot of frames or movement.
would using the mask tracker that tracks the mask and key-frames for you automatically combined with this make it faster?
dedication to what you want to acNice tutorialeve in life! Stay safe and be wise! Much love!
I was rather hoping that it would be possible to open another instance of soft soft VST in rewire and drag stuff from one to another but
Interesting! :D
TNice tutorials might just be the first motivational comnt ive ever seen on a tutorial vid. ga thanks bro
100% I make the sickest soft in my head all day long then the mont I open a DAW...
So no one is even going to point out that his friend is Kel? like.... Keenen and Kel. I'm surprised that people aren't talking more about that then they are about the tutorial.
This works. Recommended to try this out. Thanks a lot for your help
I believe you can but tNice tutorials will depend what version you have.
How do I get the ligaments though?? like I just get the little dot but I don’t get the little branches that let you smooth it out
Good but this may be hard to explain to a beginner how fast your moving but good video
I have a trick for YOU!! Hit ALT when you add or edit a mask point and out come two little handles, that allow you to make a big CURVE with just ONE 'node'! (You can clear the area of other vertices near it!) Use this, any place there is a curve, and you can use one or 1-2 instead of 5-8 for a smooth curve and total fast control!!! Where you are placing 14-20 nodes (vertices) I place 5-9! Having 5 vertices to change over time (and the smooth curves taking care of themselves!!! ) makes it all go a LOT faster :) This trick will save you time, (and yes, breaking it up into moving parts is brilliant! Good idea!) Our two tips together make JURASSIC PARK!! BTW The end video is REALLY Cool!!
looks like a pain in the ass......lol
or you can shoot green screen
What kind of tNice tutorialrd party plug ins an tutorial do you use??
ive been trying but it wont let me move the individual dots when keying it only lets me move the entire thing
wow, you a Nigerin? Please can you mentor me for VFX?
has anyone ever co up with such a good lody, and forget it seconds later
using it for a few years and now I want to upgrade and I'm happy I did that.
Its maybe better detail... but still the same amount of work... i mask the whole body you can select only the arm vectors and skip a vew frames to place them together... so work the same... but thanks for the vid! Have a great day!
am going to try this method, wish me luck.
This looks a worse job than standing at a chinese factory production line putting in 4 screws into some lamp-stand 10 hours a day.
Why wouldn't you rotoscope this instead?
Do the basics first, if it would be easy, everyone would do it
track footage 3d ..select all of the points on the dudes body as possible then create solid.make it big as fuck..mask the solid and watch the solid follow the dudes movement..u may need to correct the mask obviously but its alotttt better faster than this
not wNice tutorialle quarantine but how r u doing is that hard ?
Super useful man it take me less than 10min.
Do you know how to delete mini lens flares but keep the main flare? I tries using the pen tool around the mini flares but the main flare immediately disappears.
What dont u want to use the rotobrush as any normal person would do?
This is 3 years ago tell us the updated way it 2020 now
you should do masks with different modes and the trkmats!
is it possible to unite all mask Colour to one?
things are much more easier now , you have rotobrush v2
Awesome tut. Love from Calgary, Alberta
Learned this with Mocha Pro a couple of years ago
Your tutorials are appreciated. You explain everytNice tutorialng so simply and show the fundantals of producing. Many people and myself thank
Bro thats what I said haha im back right now sober lol
What are the differences from the regural and the free trial one
Can the adjustment layer just be a duplicate layer?
└⚠️ TNice tutorials folder is empty
????Mocha???? DAAA
Indeed...you'll see this method in every mocha (FREE! with AE, BTW) tutorial, with the added bonus that mocha will track shapes changing, so much less manual adjustment.
So if this is 5 times faster, mocha is 5 times faster again. It's like he saw a mocha tutorial, then forgot to mention using mocha (Again: FREE! with AE for precisely this type of masking.)
@@berenfishe7363 yes mocha AE or this could work with Track Mask in AE's Animation too, not as well as Mocha.
I always like your videos, so that you keep making them :D Thank´s a lot for all your tips, they are very useful to me
thank you. Only vid showing this on UA-cam and now I'm not confuse anymore. Continue to follow whatever dream you have. peace and love hommie
Why can't Mask Tracking softwares just treat each Node as a Motion Tracking Point? Motion Tracking points and Camera Tracking seem to be way more precise and almost no work.
I bet that guy loves orange soda.
Does this translate to premiere as well?
Damnnnnn he edited my idols music video
