  • Many of us come into being nomads with very low budgets. With luck, we at least have a reliable car and maybe not much else--so what do we live in--a tent? What we need is a super cheap, super light trailer we can tow with our car so we can sleep comfortably, safely and with very little money--where can we get such a thing?

    I love my CoolCamp XL! This is a great value for the money! Steve and his family are great to work with and produce a quality product. For anyone who just wants to go camping (not glamping) this is the real deal. I pull mine with a 2016 Chevy Impala (1,000 lb towing limit) and it tows straight, stable, and effortlessly. If you are an Android user download the ParkAdvisor app. For Apple users it is AllStays. This is really an excellent app for finding campgrounds.

    We bought a RangeRunner in August 2017, couldn't be happier! We love every single thing about this little camper! We live in California and had it shipped sight unseen. Steve and his staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and were happy with our purchase. Great company to deal with! Highly recommend :)

    Hey Bob, Camo Dave did a righteous bit on you. He explained how with all the things you do and have done to teach and promote the Nomadic lifestyle and all the help you have gave to others you deserve to get paid and I agree. What I really liked was how he pointed out that you are NOT an ebegger. Much admiration to you Bob.

    I've seen 7x12 cargo trailers on ebay with diamond metal protection on the front and all .. for about 3000$. And on those we can stand up. But this is indeed a good choice for the price no doubt.

    • @johnshannon
      @johnshannon 6 років тому

      What is the typical weight of that size cargo trailer?

    • @John_Smith__
      @John_Smith__ 6 років тому +1

      Yup, they were about that size. I think I have seen their listings on ebay and it was about that price with the diamond metal "coating" on both the tires fenders and the front. Of course one has to work inside in order to adapt to everyone needs, bed, storage and whatever else is needed. But we can stand up and walk fine inside unlike this. The problem is of course more weight and a very bad aerodynamics. Those I've seen on ebay have a nose cone (triangular shape) that's better form fuel mileage due to better aerodynamics.
      But even with more weight they do not compare with the heavy "competition" :) I think any car can carry those with no problem.

Hope to do research for another few months, then do the build and then get out on the road by the end of 2019. I seen some negative comments about "I can get a cargo trailer for the same price and can stand up" there is one thing one must understand cargo trailers are bulky and heavy empty and you need a truck to hall it. These campers are for small vehicles 4 and 6 kickers. I would buy if they have doors on both sides. I will stop buy sometime when I'm in Ocala maybe in march. The only way to know is to get in one and see if it's roomy enough to sleep two in. Thanks for posting.

    Great alternative to a tent. We don't own one of these, but we have tent camped A LOT. We got a cab-over camper for our truck now, because the dampness in a tent can cause back pain, ect. And when the people who camp next to you are a problem, you can just drive away. No hassles. Not so with a tent. When it rains tents are muddy and have to be dried out to store (mildew free) If we didn't all ready have the cab-over we would buy one of these. Gas mileage would be better and you can move about without the "fun" of have to put the tent up at every new spot. I think these are well worth considering.

    Very informative video, especially listening to the owner explain the different models. My biggest concern is for older people as myself and sleeping on a 4" piece of memory foam. My back just can't stand that. I wonder if there is any other option available for bedding. These campers are primarily used to sleep in and stay out of the weather and afford some type of basic security which a tent does not give. I like the luggage rack option that one can attach an awning to that gives shade and a place to sit to view the campsite and scenery. Will weigh the options and look into purchasing one of these units.

    Hi Bob, Great video. There are a couple of other manufacturers that are offering great value as well. One in in Florida called the "Tiny Camper Company" . The other one is in SC. called "Rustic Trails teardrops". Both company's offer great value for their products. Their trailers are very reasonably priced for those on low income. Thanks again

    How well are these trailers holding up? I'm curious how durable something so light is actually going to be going down the rough roads.
