London Underground: Tight Action at Mile End Station

- Today we are at Mile End station in East London, which is a major interchange between London Underground’s Central line and the District and Hammersmith & City lines.
The station is the only subterranean station that provides a cross-platform interchange between deep tube trains (Central line) and the subsurface network (District and Hammersmith & City lines).
It originally opened in 1902 as part of the Whitechapel & Bow Railway, and the Central line reached the station in 1946.
With the Central line providing a train in each direction every 1-2 minutes and frequent service on the District and Hammersmith & City lines, this is an excellent station for trainspotting.

Mile End is definitely the best place on a hot summer's day to sample the contrast between the air-conditioned "S" Stock and the Central's non-air conditioned 1992 Stock. Changing between the two here is like walking out of a fridge into a sauna, or vice-versa!!

Where deep level tubes meet subsurface subway! As an underground fan myself (by no means any expert) I just had a fascination with subways since I was a kid who grew up with the Glasgow subway! Mile End is a good place to see the two types of trains, I've been there! Great video thanks. 👍 👍 👍 👍
The reason Mile End is special is that it’s the only station where deep level tube meets subsurface trains underground (as opposed to, say, Finchley Road or Hammersmith).
I really like the 1992 stock sound when it stops and departs. I also like mile end station because the deep level tube is next to the car level tube on the same level.

And When you look at a westbound central line train departing heading west, you can see that the central line train dips down to the left

Train spotting is very fun at Mile End! Though I've never done it, I have gone past on Central Line, and it's just always buzzing! This was a great video!
Victoria should be like that. But because the subsurface platforms are in in a curved, and slightly hilly, and not straight like Mile end, it will not happen

I think what he was implying was that it is the only direct change over across the Underground between the Central (Deep-Level), District and H&C Lines (Sub-Surface).

I like those central line trains. They sound really good and fast. I like their models. Along with the Jubilee and Victoria line trains

321 Bus route it enters stations like Hampstead at a fast speed but the ATO does slow it down at Kennington

I commute to Mile End Station every day and I wonder how the central line is on either side of the district and hammersmith and city line. Going Westbound, the next station is geographically north (Bethnal Green compared to D and H&C trains Stepney Green). I suspect the central line dips down underneath, but when I'm on the train, it never feels like it goes downhill, and the distance between Mile End, Stepney Green and Bethnal Green seems so close to not notice the crossover!
The central line always comes in at crazy speeds scaring me. Thats why its my favourite line.

It's good when I went to London last month and was soo lucky twice I got one from Embankment to Ealing Common and another one from Upminster to Monument. Thank god I had my last moments with them before they are all withdrawn from service.
The last D stock train ran on 28 April 2017. Now all subsurface lines run either S7 or S8 stock now. These videos are a great way to remember when they were in service.
I've only had the pleasure to ride one once, since I was staying near a District line station in Sept 2015.

In my opinion I think the 09 stock on the victoria line is the most beautiful stock on the underground. Second place is the s stock trains

Next time, your'e filming on the tube, could you please film at Aldgate? It's a rather curious station being sandwiched on the west side of a triangle with the District Line at the south end and the Hammersmith & City line at the north east end. Both lines pass within sight of the platforms at Aldgate but call instead at Aldgate East leaving Aldgate to be served by the Circle line and terminating Metropolitan line trains.
Amir Circle Line trains run through Aldgate and stop there, because the next station is Tower Hill. It is the Metropolitan Line which happens to terminate at Aldgate.

The oldest trains remaining are the 72 and 73 stocks, the rest of them are modern trains.

Central line trains don’t make the most exciting noise, though it’s fun watching them come in at crazy speeds
When I was soo young, Like 2 years old, I used to be scared of London underground trains, because of the tunnels. But I was mostly scared of the Central line, because of the strong power and the speed. So that's why I like them

Station could do with platform screen doors or automatic platform gates. However, it's quite cool to see the two different types of line meet here! Great work and keep it up!
Mile End station dosent require screen doors because it's not a very busy station

It's good coz as you progress to central London London from East District line and central line stop together and in seconds you board the next one
There’s multiple more like Stratford where jubilee line meets HS1 and Manchester airport where the deep level meets the national rail

I think the latter.
Central line is the deep one, that's why the trains are smaller to fit in the tunnels

No, as I think you said, the h&c and district line run cut-and-cover most of the time and completely above ground towards the end of the lines (hope that makes sense)
District and H&C are quite shallow, the Central is normally a deep line but rises up to the Districts level at this station before descending to deep level again
I used to be scared of the central line when I was very young because of the speed, that's why I like it

If by any chance you wanted to go to Ealing Broadway, you could get the Central or the District couldn't you. Which would be quicker? Central, I expect.

Trains run a lot faster on the central line about 20-30mph faster in a lot of sections
Central line, by about 15 minutes.
You can compare these trains with the 72 stock and see the differences.
Those 1992 trains are more powerful than the 1972 trains.

Mixture of both. Subsurface on District and Hammersmith & City Lines and Deep Level on the Central Line.
@@faizul280 but the look is subsurface because it's big for the Hammersmith and district. But when the central line disappears from the station heading westbound, they dip down the tunne,l if you look carefully when it departs

They are used because its the longest line they runs between Essex and Buckinghamshire and Ealing, so it needs to reduce the sunlight from getting into the train
