Replay. Definitely hit home--my biggest takeaway is that the swish pattern interrupts the compulsive thought with a picture of my ideal self in a general, non-specific way, which allows it to work universally on any number of patterning issues. This is deep. I'm so glad I have been able to find your videos, sir.
I randomly found the swish pattern via Dr. David Snyder. Later that night I went home and ran it. I had a very specific goal over something like 'completing my tasks.' It was a great experience.
However, the surprise came at 2am. I suddenly woke up with a VERY LOUD urgency to go by some more colorful cloths. I went to Walmart at 2:30 am and bought some bright colored polos and shirts to wear at work. That morning at work many people stopped to mention how bright I looked. I was typically not noticed.
I wore black polos and khakis everyday. No wonder.
I got a loud urgency to look up psychology issues. I discovered that I had an 'attachment to deprivation.' I realized that I was trying to hide while also being a very loud personality among peers. I am not an introvert by any means, but my inner child was still trying to hide.
What a trip. I'm pretty sure that whatever I 'actually' did with the swish pattern, it CERTAINLY shook some deep things loose.
old school love it
Watching replay. Yesterday I spoke with a coach of yours. I appreciate you providing such a valuable context on NLP.
Replay. Thanks very much @damoncart. Your lessons are valuable and engaging. I really like the way you bring out the nuances and explain them with ease and calmness.
THIS IS VERY HELPFUL!
Replay. Thank you Damon. Swish pattern is such a powerful tool, this is such a great reminder
Watching the replay... thank you SO much, Damon! You explained this extremely well - I am relieved to know how to do this correctly, as I have also had the disillusionment of m previous efforts not actually working. You are a gem! 🎉
thank you Damon for doing this. I have used this on procrastination and it gets rid of that super good. also it works great on public speaking. i was mediocre. and it transformed me into a great real estate sales guy for two decades. you will laugh, there are only about 1000, but i actually ranked and put people in my top 10. you are #1. I replayed this video about 5 times and i have no doubt it will help me shed this stubborn belly fat.
Listening to the replay. When I studied the Silva method one of the tools was the swish pattern which as you said in the lesson, focused on my ideal state versus a more neutral state that replaced the trigger image.
For me I find this approach more “believable” as I am sometimes challenged by visualizing the wish fulfilled.
Lots of great take always as you described in the presentation. Thanks for the insights and the simple explanation of the tool.
Replay, looking forward to learning this
Replay, will try this out now. Thanks!

Wow, thanks for this. I love that you brought up that Steve Andreas wasn't afraid to challenge people who he thought were doing it wrong.
It reminded me of a time years ago in the late 90s, when there was a very popular nlp (ish) email group that steve happened to be a member.
The creators of the group were branching away from nlp into their own methodology. I remember steve actually commented a few times saying he could see some value in where they were creating.
But unfortunately they took offence once to Steve's very legitimate questions around one of the techniques and ended up having a public falling out.
I can't remember the exact details, but i felt so bad for the way they treated him that i emailed him directly (Steve) to see if he was okay.
He didn't seem bothered in the slightest about it and was actually more interested in how they came to that reaction. How did they structure and represent his questions that lead to that reaction.
Steve Andreas was the real deal, advanced nlp in so many ways, and I'm glad you're continuing his work
Thank you. Yes, Steve was undeterred by people taking offense to his mission to find real answers. He was relentless. Even a few months before he passed away, he sent me an email critiquing some of the copy on my website. Oh Steve. But that's what made him great.
Replay - Thank you so much for explaining more about Swish Pattern. This is the first time I heard about creating the ideal self with no content or context in swish pattern.
Replay, fascinating stuff.

As a starting coach, I have learned so much from this video! The whole script is on my Manual but how you explained HOW SWISH PATTERN works and the theory behind it made me more confident to use this on the people I am going to serve. My biggest takeaway was Creating an Ideal Self without a context or behavior and particular location. It makes total sense. I appreciate it a lot.
You're so welcome. Yes, it's important to follow the steps, but the main point of following the steps is so that you have an experiential understanding of how the techniques and processes work. Also, it's unfortunate, but most NLP teachers teach this process incorrectly.
Watching the replay... for the umpteenth time! Thank you, thank you, Damon for your amazing, generous teachings and sharing! 🙏🏻⚘️
I used this version with a couple who were struggling with their relationship in how they respond to each other rather than react. Thanks again.

Viewed from replay. Thank you for sharing your insightful golden nugget for, swishing success!
Replay: I had the same experience where it didn't work and I thought it was something wrong with me.... Now I realise I was taught incorrectly Takeaways
1. No Content with ideal self its more the sense of who your perfect self is
2. Don't Swish the compulsion and ideal self - clear the mind then do again
Awesome! Going to use with a client today
Be careful with the word perfect. It has the implication of an impossible standard that you will never reach, which means you'll always fall short and likely feel bad about yourself. I like to use the term 'ideal self' because it implies that you're living your values, which results in fulfillment and satisfaction.
Awesome Message!!
Your Idea self must be the physical image of you FUNCTIONING/BEHAVING differently when experiencing situation.
It is the Verb part of you that automatically forms your new Noun.
Actually no, what makes the Swish Pattern so effective is by not binding yourself to any particular behavior or context.

This has always been my favorite technique . Listening now and hoping to get some good positive results with this tool . Greatly appreciative to this post. Stepping out of my element into a new sales role in a new industry for myself (Insurance sales . Yes. LOL) Thanks again Damon. -Victor Dean

Replay. Big take away is that once this is really grasped it can be innovated and adapted to change in more areas than just the overly problematic compulsions.

Well, I go through these videos in March 2024,thank you Damon. Amazing concept, not to say content!
Watching the replay just beginning a beautiful nlp and hypnosis journey! If you see this comment, please believe in me with me that I will help many in my calling and continue to become the best version of myself in the process!❤ Much love to this teacher and his audience
It's an incredible journey. My unsolicited advice is to focus on practicing everything you learn on yourself as well as others and don't waste your time focusing on certifications. They mean nothing.

Replay, and loved the video Damon. Thanks.
What are your thoughts when it comes to associating into the ideal self image before disassociating and running the pattern? My hypnosis teacher teaches it this way to get a “feel” for how it may be to experience that ideal self first, then keep it disassociated for the actual pattern to keep the motivation to move towards that ideal image.
I appreciate your input!
I think that's fine as long as you disassociate from it when you run the pattern.
Replay - new to this topic and find listening to you very interesting
I've suffered from clamping of my eyes for many years (blepharospasm). Botox is the recommended treatment and this didn't work for me. I've tried many things including homeopathy. Nothing has worked so I've tried to talk to my brain and all the other recommended things. Listening to you talking about the switch pattern has somehow calmed me. Let you know when it's sorted
Replay.
Biggest takeaway was not using a specific context for the ideal picture I was taught differently.
Question: If the image is only from head to shoulder how do we know it’s our ideal self?
I ask because I always had this thought that my ideal self isn’t doing the things I’m doing now so to make that image I though it would have to be me doing the things my ideal self would be doing.
Thanks for everything you do you are deeply appreciated. 🙏🏽
You can make the image the way it works for you. Head and shoulders is just a suggestion. The bottom line, that’s been hard for me to really get, it that it’s a very personal thing. Test and experiment and change it for yourself and see what works for you. If seeing more of your body ( be sure there’s no context or content) helps you to have the result you want, then use that. It’s for each of us to discover. Just be sure that you follow the steps excactly at first. Then, when you know you have got it, start getting creative.❤️
If you were to see an ideal image of yourself in no particular place and not doing any specific behaviors, what would that look like?
Replay: going to try this today. There is nothing more convincing than experiencing unexpected changes for the better in yourself. It's extremely motivating and thrilling!. I love getting past limitations, which I now know to be increasing the scope of whats possible. Is that correct? (enriching the map) Working at a higher logical level? trying to get the hang of these last few days as I'm really enjoy understanding why things work. Thank you Damon
Watching the reply
Greatly appreciate this clarification! Question: When I visualize my ideal self I’m
Would it be okay to “pluck” a still life image of our ideal self out of an environment that we feel, say, accomplished (or whatever value)? The still life image is still on a blank background but the positive associated emotions remain.
Realising the power of my imagination
I enjoyed watching the replay. You provided great content and value :) You mentioned that the swish pattern should not be practiced daily because it becomes part of the subconscious. I was wondering which NLP practices you recommend to do every day. That are based in the self-concept model the most powerful NLP model.
You can do the Swish Pattern daily if you're working on something different every time, but you would probably run out of things to swish after a few days.
Daily practices could be working a bit everyday on transforming qualities. For example you could spend a week transforming one quality and do that weekly.
Just studying NLP and practicing the exercises can be a daily practice.
Replay. I will try this out today. I want to stop eating sugar. Cookies, muffins, anything sweet in general. I'll come back and share if this worked
Watching replay! Thanks, now I understand why no content or context makes it work...
This is my first listen to anything NLP. It’s like showing a crying child a fun toy for adults.
Since you're using a metaphor I can't be certain of what you mean but it doesn't sound positive. NLP can certainly be fun. It's not a toy though.
Replay - Thank you so much for this Damon. I was wondering if you might use this on a memory that causes issues. An example would be a bad accident that resulted in serious injury. It has been a long time and the person has recovered but now the person is having this memory come up when they reach a certain level of relaxation. As in when going to sleep, this memory re-plays and wakes them up.
It certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a try. There's no harmful side-effects. It will either work or it won't. A better process though would probably be the NLP Fast Phobia Process.
replay. Take away how to do Swish pattern correctly and then also the importance of Decision vs Negotiation. That statement affected me in the importance of making decisions about certain areas and eliminating or minimizing negotiation in those areas that are important to me especially in light of values. Going to spend some time here addressing this.
can you practise this on several habits etc., like, let's say I smoked AND overate. can I exchange whatever association/trigger I have with either one with that ideal image? And in that line, would it work with several triggers for the same habit - like, if I smoked and not only a image of a cigarette would trigger that, but also an imagine of a friend I smoke with, a certain place or whatever?
Very good questions.
Yes, you can use it on multiple habits. When I say don't practice this everyday, I mean that for the same habit because you want this to eventually become unconscious. It's more powerful that way. But if you want to use it on other habits you want to break, go for it.
Yes, you can, and should, use the same ideal image of yourself for any habit you want to break because the ideal image is in no particular context and because you're not doing any particular behavior. Your ideal image is universal so it will work to break any and all bad habits.
Yes to your last question. If you find that you have multiple triggers for the same habit, you can do separate swishes for each trigger.
replay - I'm going to use tomorrow on a client for the sugar hit which is an emotional response. I know that eating more and more sugar creates a hunger that is never quenched and does lift you temporarily. I am looking to pattern interrupt to make a different choice within therapy not contextual in the swish. Just seeing the head and shoulders with no context brings about a feeling of 'you've got this'. If the head and shoulders defines who you are without a problem, it reinforces this perfectly as if you have already overcome and is past tense so lets keep going as it is attainable as the picture shows.
Please let me know of anything you would change or add to this.
Many thanks Mandy
replay. going to use to finally hit a classic kick serve in tennis and is the ideal great player vs. one who cannot hit one and is mediocre at best. can it work in athletics? and also to be more patient in traffic congestion. patient guy vs. ready to flip someone off
What process did you say might work better for fear? I didn’t understand the words you said there and I am brand new to NLP so couldn’t figure it out. Thanks!
Replay. I watched you explain how to do the swish pattern in another video some time ago. It did not work for me, but I'll give it a go again.
@@DamonCart Smoking. I'm from Serbia, and smoking is still allowed everywhere unfortunately, so whenever I sit for a coffee, or worse a glass of wine, I get tempted. I don't smoke all the time, but it really bothers me and would not want to smoke at all.
@@anaperovic1706 the Swish Pattern might not be the best pattern for this. It doesn't sound compulsive. The way you describe it, it sounds more like you're fulfilling a value or possibly a few values that has to do with social acceptance and connection. Find out what the values are that smoking fulfills and then find at least three other things you can do besides smoking that would fulfill those same values and are healthier.
Watching from replay. I'm few days behind and so I had a temptation to skip this video and go to the next one. I'm so glad I didn't.
It feels very empowering knowing a tool that can help me change habits that I'm trying to change for so many years throughout all sorts of therapies... I was going to work on my short temper issue, using the swish patern, but as you explained about the trigger image, I'll have to work on that first. So I'm going to try it on using my phone excessively, flipping through facebook mindlessly. the trigger picture would be my hand holding the phone I assume. But then what if I want to use the phone to read the ebooks that I have there...? Should I work with the image of me holding the phone and going through the facebook (so I assume the trigger picture would be the bell with number of notifications on it) or should I go with the picture of the phone in general and then conciously chosing to use the phone in beneficial way? .
Hope I'm making sense
Once again, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us 🙏
There's a certain trigger that causes you to mindlessly and compulsively scroll on social media. Find that trigger image. Don't make it up and don't assume what it is. Find it. There is something that triggers it.
Replay would you like to tell us more about the identity level i am surprised that you mentioned that i thought that most of the times these strategies are used to alleviate symptoms or change habits but identity level goals goes deeper right?
Much deeper.
It's too much to try to explain here. However, I have done several videos on this.
Thankyou for amazing content
Can you give ideas regarding how to create an ideal image without content and behaviour
Can you please describe it by example... like you gave an idea that my ideal self can be like someone who has solved all problems of my life & someone who is living an ideal life -- so here this contains the behaviour and place as well .. ?
Help please...
This is when your creativity becomes important and don't say you're not creative. We're always creating in our minds. Create an image of yourself that when you see it (you), you just know this is the you who is fulfilled and living your highest ideals without seeing any specific context and without seeing you doing any specific behavior. No one can create that image for you. Maybe you see a black curtain behind you or a green screen. Maybe your eyes are bright and your skin is full of color. Perhaps the muscles in your face are relaxed and you have a happy and confident smile, etc. Take the time to create this image. Ask yourself what does your ideal self look like?
Hello, I understand how using an image modality associated with the action or compulsion you want to change is used instead of a kinesthetic one is in your explanation, but would it be possible to use the swish pattern to ease anxiety if the action or compulsion is a kinesthetic or feeling that is more associated as a trigger, i.e. if touching something gives you a 'feeling' that triggers the compulsion to for instance wash your hands, cloths or whatever got touched (in the case of ocd)? If it's the kinesthetic feeling of discomfort, can you "swish" that feeling for one of comfort or relief? Thank you for your help!
You can swish a touch (kinesthetic perceptual) but you can't swish an emotional feeling like mental comfort (kinesthetic evaluative).
Damon, I am trying to swish from having a really hard time swallowing pills (caused by choking on a pill about 10 years ago) to how I used to swallow pills with no problem before that. However, I need to relate the ideal image to the sensation of being able to swallow pills, I don't understand how I could swish if my ideal image has no context. I just want it to become natural again to swallow pills. I've been making progress, but it still takes me quite a bit of time, concentration, and a lot of water.
You can swish in the kinesthetic modality. Use sensations rather than images. The sensation could be how your whole body would relax, including your throat muscles, when you're being your ideal self.
You might also try the Fast Phobia Process.
What is an ideal image?
An image of the you who has solved all of your problems and is living your highest ideals and values.
REPLAY viewer.
I've been trying to build up a sense of urgency at work so that I can work faster.
Then things go slightly wrong and I've had to use "mindfulness" to deal with painful flashes of intense emotion that would normally make me fly off the handle. I think this might be a result of an informal swish itself; it has kept me from my worst behavior (flying off the handle.) What that means is: feeling the pain of rage rather than raging.
My takeaway is, my ideal self would feel capable of handling these urgent and petty situations. Thinking of myself in this way would obviate the need for that intense punitive (away-from) signal. Therefore, once I have installed the reminder of my ideal self in the routine, I can reasonably expect the recovery-from-pratfalls to be much more pleasant.

I also did a few reps of the fast phobia cure, so I don't know which...
It worked. I felt much cooler despite the usual gaffes.
Next up: Generalize until this opossum turns to a tiger.
Ah wow, you just solved a problem for me, with the swishing of sound, because I get triggered on certain songs.
Is it possible to perform a covert swish pattern?
Dor example into a Nested Loops? Or in other way?
With enough creativity, almost anything can be done covertly. I've done a re-imprint covertly and that's an extremely involved process.
I would like to add that L Silva also said that we can imagine ourselves as we look at ourselves in a mirror and see the future self, not acting.... Damon, is this correct what I said and the swish pattern will work? 🙏
Yes. Just make sure that you design the image in such a way that when you see it, you know that you're looking at your ideal self who has solved all of your problems.
I always wondered why it would be a good idea to swish back and forth several times. The answer I got when I asked my lecturers was it confuses the brain when processing the trigger, which I thought would be half correct. The main question I have at the moment (before going away and practising this new information) is what is the best way to get a subject or client to envision their best self with no context. What sort of words or phrases have you found are best at allowing them to see that new image?
You don't want to swish back and forth because that can create a yo-yo effect where your ideal image swishes in place of the trigger image and then the trigger image swishes back in as the ideal image goes away. Only practice swishing the ideal image in so that it takes over the trigger image. Don't swish back. Set the images back up and practice the swish only in that one direction, never back and forth.
The Swish Pattern is not about confusing the brain. It's about interrupting a pattern and setting a new course toward your ideal self rather than being triggered to engage in a bad habit.
I just tell people to see an ideal image of themselves in no particular context and not doing any particular behavior. You can think of yourself being in front of a black backdrop or a green screen. I will tell them that you'll know when you have a good ideal image when you look at it and you're not even quite sure what it is about the image, but there's just something that communicates that this is your ideal you who has solved all of your problems and who is living your highest ideals.
@DamonCart thanks for the quick reply! I'll begin applying this new information with clients immediately. Thanks again for such detailed and informative videos 👍
Step by step of Swish pattern:
Step 1: Have a impulsion image of you about to trigger
Step 2: Creat your ideal image of yourself without content ,head and shoulder let's say ,and keep it down or far in small size
Step 3:Let you ideal image come forward and destroys your impulsion image just before it makes you react impulsively
Step 4:Wipe out the mental scene or board since and start it all over again and repeat it for 10 times.
*Creating an ideal image without content is the key here ...
