- Georges Joseph Christian Simenon, 86 (13th February 1903 - 4th September 1989) was a Belgian writer. A prolific author who published nearly 500 novels and numerous short works, Simenon is best known as the creator of the fictional detective Jules Maigret. Georges Simenon died in his sleep of natural causes on the night of 3rd -4th September 1989 in Lausanneaged aged 88.
I find Simenon very addictive. I've read all 75 of the Maigret books and around 70 of the 'Romans Durs'. Finding an old green Penguin Simenon in a second-hand bookshop is almost an emotional experience.
Apparently he had several thousand lovers !! A miracle he
had time , or energy , to write
anything !
I think he might have been exaggerating. According to his wife the number was more likely to have been several hundred and most if not all for the purpose of research!
Oh.....ONLY several hundred !?
A monk like existence .
Hello friend. Which of the maigret did you like the most....or are they important to you?
I have no particular favourites among the Maigret novels but perhaps I like the stories set outside Paris slightly less.
I can't get enough Maigret. Any edition any medium any production. Admittedly some better than others but the story never fails.
Very interesting video thank you for this share.
Simenon’s prolificity damned him as a significant artist.Had is output been limited to that of Camus he would have been hailed as one of the greatest writers of the 20c.
Yes . Rather like Leslie Charteris
who wrote the Saint . He was a very stylish writer but as he was
' popular ' he was ignored by critics .
Phenomenal writer
Hawaii five 0 Mc Garett out of Maigret...
I cringe whenever critics refer to him as French. He was a Belgian, after all!
Like Poirot-
he wrote in french.
I read many of his books in the 1970s and now I am listening and viewing many of stories online. Love his stories.
First heard (read) about Maigret and Simenon as a pre-teen (thank you Collier Encyclopedias). Why it took me reaching my 40s to read and realize the beauty of Maigret is beyond me
Thank you for the video about Simeone's history. ❤️
One a legend.
