I think it’s insanity to spend tons of money on stuff you don’t particularly want. And actually, the bags are nice, but they’re not that nice. They’re more of a status symbol than anything. So, at the end of the day, people are spending money to buy perceived status. Pretty gross!

I agree with you, it is dodgy😂 that's why every Hermes bag I have ever owned was pre-loved. Although I do shop at Hermes (mostly online), I only buy things that I absolutely love, like shoes, twillies and perfume. And since my purchase history is mostly online, I have never had a chance to create a wish list for a quota bag. I bought a pre-owned Birkin before (it was a size 35, so it didn't work out for me) and I would go the same route if I wanted to get another one (size 30 would be perfect). When I recently asked the SA at the boutique about a Picotin, she flat out told me I shouldn't buy anything from the website anymore and ONLY buy through her "to show loyalty", if I ever wanted to get offered one🤣 How ridiculous - Picotin! the bag that Hermes sells on their website...So I'm supposed to show loyalty to the SA (according to her) and not the brand (which I was doing by shopping online)🤔 I'm not sure if Hermes is aware of what their SA's are telling the clients. I can't imagine them being trained that way - to discourage people from shopping on Hermes website. Just seems like they want commissions🤷‍♀ In my opinion if Hermes requires purchase history for the quota bag offer, then it would be fair to count online purchases (so many people live very far from the boutique and can only shop online).

      @whatsilviadid3993 Рік тому +20

Hermes website items come from their e-commerce company and e-commerce logistics partner stock warehouse so what they mean by loyalty is this: each boutique and SA have sales targets. They use K/B/C as bait to fish customers that will help them reach their boutique sales targets and then gift them with a quota bag and keep them wanting more, hence spending more. It is not about brand loyalty, just about helping each H store reach their sales targets established by their HQ. This means H doesn't care about the loyalty of customers to their brand but to the loyalty of their customers to the boutiques of their area of living.

@@whatsilviadid3993 interesting, but I don’t see why Hermes wouldn’t care about loyalty to the brand and website sales. Doesn’t make sense from a business standpoint. Website sales don’t have commissions, so they make them more money in theory. But idk how the whole logistics side works, so maybe they do lose money by providing free shipping. It’s an interesting subject. Thanks for your reply 🤓

It doesn’t make sense that H doesn’t take into consideration the purchases we make online. All the sales go to their company ultimately. Thing is, some items are not available in store. Brands and Shops that make clients play some sort of game, for me, it´s not luxury at all! Luxury for me is the best experience in the stores with the sales assistants, the best treatment and if you have the money you buy what you want. For me this is luxury! I´m ok with rare products and waiting lists, but making clients lost their money with products that even they don´t care much just to get someday a bag, it´s ridiculous, it´s explorative, it´s not the type of treatment that is considered luxury! Luxury is about making dreams come true, not living nightmares.

I personally like Hermes products. But they make things I like hard to obtain. Example: I was in the market for a gold bangle. Tried one at Hermes in the style I really like. It was two sizes bigger than my wrist and banged around on me making it uncomfortable to wear. I asked the SA if they make it in a smaller size. She gave me a speech on how they are so backed up that they won’t be able to accommodate me but maybe down the line, “because you are a customer of the brand” they will make my size for me via a special order.
Who needs this headache? I walked into Cartier and was greeted like a dear guest. My daughter was given coloring books and crayons while I browsed a much larger selection of bracelets and tried on different sizes until I found the prefect one. Now when I wear it, I recall the great experience. And I will be buying matching jewelry overtime.
Hermes shopping experience should put a smile on your face and create great memories not give you anxiety and stress over something.

Resell sites are flooded with uncommon sizes Hermes shoes.
This game is not worth it. With how much you'd need to spend, buying from third party is actually saving you money and you get exactly the spec you want.

But hearing recently about their manipulative, suck up to a sales associate tactics, just to buy a bag that most of their customers can’t really afford, I’m actually quite appalled. Their marketing is exploitative. If you have a product, it should be readily available to whoever walks in and desires to purchase it. There’s no artificially inflated resale market if consumers can simply pre-order the bag they want (like they used to be able to do). Hermes has created this bloated online market and spawned the Chinese reps with their stupid sales strategies. There are so many consumers that would gladly work directly with the store, wait for their order, and gain a true love and interest in the brand that’s organic and real. Instead it’s a mean girl’s club, the brand has lost its luster, and people who want the status are simply turning elsewhere without playing the mind games.

We are talking about a Brand, they targeting psychology of exclusive, so crazy expensive to drive others to compete to buy it. Great explanation, the other side of how the sale associates feel and what they went through .Someone unsuccessfully 15 times, then someone else was successful to get a Birkin so easily. Drives the ladies nuts!! The Hermes Game can be continue for all these years because everyone is defeated and playing the game. 1 of someone's one goal to just have 1 and love and cherish the handbag is impossible ( otherwise just buy through after market, quick and simple). Very interesting video, great information educational for others. I think it’s a terrible way to do business, but it’s the way the way that a lot of business that cater to the wealthy operate. Country and sport clubs have spending requirements way beyond the exorbitant dues, forcing you to write more than just your dues check, but also a yearly minimum spending check. buying a box for a season of the arts or a sport, is generally only available to people who have donated to the organization, or it’s charities, often it’s a publicly stated sum, but not always. It’s the way to keep it more exclusive, make more money, and keep things more elite. These businesses are happy to take hard saved money from the middle class, but the middle class is not who they are in business for. Having a fair waiting list, would mean that some gentleman who has been buying his mistresses and wives Birkins, for years, might take his business to a jeweler instead. It might meaning telling the equestrian family, who outfit a stable full of horses, year after year, sorry there are no birkins for your daughters whim. Having an strictly member dues system and waitlist to your club, might mean some gentleman would have to sit next to a guy who made a killing in the trash business, rather than a gentleman whose grandfather did. And that gentleman would likely join a better club, rather than hob nob with the stench of a guy who spend his days running that business hands on. But the club will more than likely have golf rounds and dinner available for purchase at different times for the purpose of people approaching those elusive minimum spend goals.

I have an Evelyne and is Looking for the perfect color in my New Garden Party.
I love their leather Bracelet and got quite a few. And the Silver jewllery
    And the perfumes.
And the decorative pieces. I could go on and on 🧡
I have the best SA and he never push anything towards me.
I usually stops by when I am in Town, sometimes just to Say hi and give/get a hug.
So my Hermès Journey is from my house to the store.
    As simple as that ☺️

I'm not sure why in the US they ban link selling. In China, Hermes store sa tell you how exactly much you need to pre-spend to get xyz bag. Very upfront and customers get to decide if they want to spend that amount or not. Everyone is an adult and everyone can make their own decisions. I think it's awful to spend a lot of money, say 15-20k and still not get a quota bag in the US. I prefer upfront selling than US' way of everyone understood that you have to play the "Hermes journey" game. I remember walking into a Hermes store in Santiago Chile, sa there told me she has a constance but I need to x amount of none leather goods in order to buy it. Isn't that refreshing compare to US' Hermes journey game? Love they way they are being so upfront about it.

Even if I had Hermes money I would probably stick to buying vintage Coach bags and high quality bags from less known brands. I can only imagine spending $50,000 on things I don’t even want!

It's the Hermes game that has incentivised me to seek out bags of a similar style to the Kelly and Birkin but not actually buy a genuine Kelly/Birkin. Teddy Blake, Mirta and.many other sites have similar styles. For the $$$ Hermes is asking for I want to buy exactly the bag I want, not a bag that isn't my ideal colour or size or whatnot. This linked sales strategy is toxic and I won't take part in it. So I support brands with similar styles and buy other luxe brand bags from other retailers (Celine, etc).

I’m glad I got my Birkin and Kelly from the preloved market for a good deal. The Hermes game at the boutique sounds ridiculous and exploiting. I don´t understand how people can feel obliged to buy super expensive stuff they don´t want in order to get ONE super expensive thing they DO want. Isnt´s much cheaper to just go for a brand new Quota bag right out of the store on the second hand market...??? I know those bags are much more expensive when bought second hand, but the margin is certainly not as huge than when you buy countless things you don´t want...

I don't play the Hermes game and I do not suggest anyone play it. The game basically is: you will jump hoops until we say so, you will not complain if we don't give you a bag that you will overpay for, we will make you feel uncomfortable or unworthy if we deem necessary to stop your pushing...basically is a lot of mental stress for an overrated bag and IT IS NOT WORTH IT. I prefer to put my dollars in brands that lift me up and treat me well as a customer which there are many btw. If you have high standards for people around you and you know how to establish boundaries, you don't need to follow this H journey to get a bag, because your own self-worth and self-respect are so much more valuable than a B/K/C. Imagine Queen Elizabeth going into an H store to beg for a bag. No way! Treat yourself like a Queen and exit the H game, darling!

I started shopping at Hermes in the 1980s when there were wait lists. By the 1990s, one could purchase click-clacks or scarves to be offered a bag; less than a 1 to 1 ratio. Today, in the very wealthy US markets (think NYC, BH and Palm Beach/Miami) you need to be purchasing fine jewellery (High Jewellery is NOT a term I would use at Hermes) or furniture or large purchases of tableware/crystal (think 16 to 24 place settings, etc.) That is a no-go for me. Hermes fine jewellery is not my style and pretty unappealing. There are much better places to shop for true High Jewellery. If you can afford High Jewellery you need to be at Harry Winston, Asprey, Boucheron, Chaumet, Buccellati, etc. I have fantastic furniture. I don't need Hermes furniture. And, other than St. Louis Crystal, which Hermes purchased, I would much rather by exquisite bone china from the UK. Hermes has been so corrupted by the YT community and many people of wealth that I know have moved on. They tell jokes about the brand at cocktail parties.

@@Jessiestyle Thank you for responding. I did not mean to sound so abrupt. I actually enjoy your perspective. You seem smart and inquisitive, as well as articulate. You have an innate sense of what is fashion versus style/quality. Enjoy Hermes, but do not let it devour your life and pocketbook.
Also, remain inquisitive when it comes to jewellery. Learn the ins and outs and be careful. Many of the top houses have their 'boutique' lines (think Cartier love bracelets) versus their special pieces including their High Jewellery creations. Cartier stamps those love bracelets (f/k/a the 'sl*ve' bracelet) out by the thousands. All of my nieces have them, some with the tiny diamond chips that Cartier overprices. Look for more special pieces that are interesting and require true bench craftsmanship. Signed pieces always hold their value in a more significant way. Sort out your motif. Mine is floral for jewellery and always soft round/elliptical instead of square/rectangular. No equestrian motif for me.
Ditto the above with furniture, tableware, etc. Do not just default to Hermes.
Wishing you much success! Happy New Year!
