HANN and HWAA is actually connected According to Soyeon, you need to listen to these songs in order : 1. HANN (Alone) (Their first comeback) 2. HANN (Alone in Winter) (Which is the latest EP's intro) 3. HWAA HWAA also means both fire and flower and yes, there are 3 main symbols for this comeback, winter, flower and fire. The versions of the album are Winter, Flower and Fire versions as well. It's like burning the cold winter with fire and bloom again like flowers. It's shown well in their first M Countdown stage for this, they're dancing with a winter background, when it got to the bridge, the stage background became red as if it's a burning fire, at the end, the background turned green, like a garden, it's finally spring time.
hwaa from the first two choruses mean fire, the last hwaa chorus mean flower (hwaa in english means fire, flower, anger). you can hear lighter sounds right after the first two Shuhua's bureul jipyeora.
Soyeon noted that a big influence for the concept of Hwaa is Shuhua's usage of Korean, specifically her tendency to say "(blank) girl". "Winter girl / 겨울여자" gave way to "a girl frozen in winter", and the rest of Hwaa. I thought that was a cool tidbit of something small leading to something bigger and creative. I've heard that track 1 of the EP, Hann (寒, alone in winter), is a followup to their 2018 single, Hann (一), and also acts as a lead-in to Hwaa.
Hwaa is really inspired by Shuhua. And also Hann(Alone in Winter), which is the first track of the ep, and Hwaa are both connected to Hann(Alone) from 2018. Storyline goes like: Hann (2018) > Hann (2020) > Hwaa And it's a story about overcoming bad breakup and finding strength in yourself to move on.
@@rebecanadaluti4298 that's not true, and it was clarified a while ago, yes she says the phrase opening the chorus, but she also did the last chorus lol, plus we should be comfortable, just like Shuhua feels comfortable with the lines she gets.
@@rebecanadaluti4298 lol and the fact that she lead the chorus. In the first 2 chorus everyone was singing and in the last she was alone. HWAA is intended to be listened as the ending part of a triplet of songs that includes HANN(Alone) and the first song from the I BURN EP which is titled HANN(Alone In Winter). I love that you totally got everything that Soyeon was going for in the imagery and symbolism of this song as well as it's connection to HANN. Also, the whole mini-album is really good plus Yuqi and Minnie did some writing as well as Soyeon. Worth checking out, imo.
I love this song and think this EP is some of their best work ever. Hwaa is such a vocal flex by Idle and even Soyeon herself said she thought they had all leveled up their singing skills for this comeback.
The fact that you got the entire message of the song and ep on ur first listen is just insane Idk whether im more impressed by ur analysis skills or soyeons ability to express things through her music
initially i was very shocked with how suddenly it ended and i couldn't understand why it is like that. but after listening to it again, i actually think the ending fits well with the song. it's one of my favorite songs of theirs now, i really like it, and i would definitely recommend checking out the album, all the songs are great! i hadn't realized what you pointed out about the outfits and the use of red in the mv even though i watched it so many times lol thanks for the reaction pd!!
Just about Hwaa, I think the video is just beautiful. Not a lot of complicated setups and minimal effects but just the basics done EXTREMELY WELL. The colors and the stage design really highlight the empitness within the song and the isolation and sadness in the song where its JUST the girls in a small space. The brief ending is interesting to me because like you said, it makes you want to repeat the song which I totally agree. When I first heard it, the first thought I had was that "Imagine what theyre going to do when they perform this on stage.. that ending is very easy to extend into an epic dance sequence or just something BIGGER" talking about the album, I loved all of the girls stuff previously but I have to say this is my favorite album. The thing I find interesting with IDLE and what I think is their strongest trait is that theyre very cinematic. Lion and Oh My God being prime examples that if you just listen to their previous song without the videos, it does lose some of its drama or it does not "feel" as epic. Their albums also feel like a collection of songs like most typical artists. With that said, this album (I Burn) is their theatricality translated perfectly to their sound. Putting this album on shuffle should be illegal because every song is connected and its their most cohesive album to date. The sequence portrays the full story of the whole album. Its the despair and the coldness of the breakup, the loneliness and the reflection, the learning and the process of moving on. Their cinematic nature was put into the album and I love that. They chose the right instruments and mixed them beautifully. Vocally, I also feel that this album pushed them further than before and I think they succeeded in improving and showcasing their vocal prowess. Its hard to pick a favorite song from this album.
Nice to see I'm not the only one who was disappointed with how abruptly the song ends. That instrumental part at the end is so cool, and all I wanted was for it to loop a second time and finish us off on a high note. Dunno why Soyeon chose not to do that. She's a brilliant composer as a whole and I love the song overall, but I think she sorta got a little too clever with the song structure and left us hanging there.
What I notice when soyeon made a song it's actually meaningful and POETIC even the summer song dumdi dumdi lol and yes she has that style of her that people instantly know the song is by her. I like your interpretation of the song and music video, and i just notice when you said 3 different parts of chorus represent winter, flower bloom and fire (could be rebirth like you said)
One part of the MV that I really like is as Shuhua says her last "bureul jipyeora", her confident/determined AF face becomes more visible, as if a fire was just lit.
Yess hann(alone) is connected to hann(alone in winter) which is the intro to their I burn album which then connects to hwaa and love the way they made the connection!! I burn is such a cohesive amazing album with beautiful songs!! Also thr mv for hwaa really represents the storyline so well as well as complimenting the amazing music❤
I'm late to this but I'm really glad you're getting back into the swing of things and really enjoyed watching you break down this latest comeback from Idle! Your set kinda fit the themes of Hwaa too, with the cool blue-green wall, and the plants and the candle with a touch of red! Also really hoping you do a listening party for I Burn. It'd be awesome if you put it up on UA-cam, but Patreon would be great too. I really think it's easily their best album yet, it's very cohesive and makes for such a fulfilling listening experience. Also the songs are just incredible on their own, which helps lmao. Minnie and Yuqi have songs where they were the main lyricists/composers too. Idle as a producing group took a big step forward with I Burn. Stay happy and healthy everyone!
Thank you very much for your opinion on this beautiful comeback. The B sides are as beautiful if not more beautiful than the title itself. I was patiently waiting for your reaction, it made me so happy to finally see it on my feed today, and I'm not exaggerating, I was holding back my tears of excitement while watching this video. I almost never use the comments section unless something hits me really hard like I-DLE does, and of course, your very insightful commentary is really delightful. I'm also very happy to know you're getting better each day, please stay healthy. Thank you very much.
Soyeon said in a vlive that she likes songs that end abprubtly cause they're impactful. The way Hwaa ends leaves me wanting more, but not because the song isn't good enough, it actually makes me wanna listen to it more and more. 10:47 speaking of old asian themes, soyeon said that in the lyrics she used old korean words and even the way they pronounce them is different 12:06 what you said here is interesting, because in one of I BURN besides called "MOON" (co-composed byt Minnie and written by Soyeon), the chorus says: "turn off the moonlight, please don't let it shine, so that till the morning comes, nobody can see me, please hide me". The whole song is about wanting to be hidden from the light so that the person won't have to fake a smile. 15:14 yes, the album has 3 versions: winter, fire and flower. So basically, after the breakup, the girls ignite a big fire that melts down the snow (or coldness) so they can bloom as flowers which represent them becoming a new strong person and living a new life. What I wonder is why they left the "fire" scene untill the end, I'd switch it with the flower scene in the second chorus and leave the flower one until the end. Maybe they did it that way cause the fire one is more impactful so they prefered to put it in the end. 17:20 Thank you. That's it
Hey FoT I fully support your in-depth analysis of videos. Even though I only watch your (G)I-Dle reactions/breakdowns, I think what you do is insightful and serious analysis, so deserves to be supported. Please keep up the hard work and G/L with the new employee!

I think you are the most professional reactor on UA-cam Great sound quality, great video quality, great production overall, and most importantly great presentation. You look professional, sound professional and you are professional 💙. Love g idle content 💙. I'm a new subscriber but I already love you lol.
I like this new way of looking at MVs! You spread the music vid out so that people don't leave halfway (for me it's always more eye-catching when the MV you're talking about pops up, and then it gets a bit dry when it's just the analysis, so it's good that now they're integrated together), and it makes the analysis easier to follow!
The symbolism of : fire, flowers, the tree and the birds nest, has been also used in "Oh my God" BUT the japanese music video, which imo was a little teaser for "Hwaa" and is something definitely worth checking out, especially since it didn't get a huge promotion and for many people( just like me) might've gone under the radar.
I totally agree. How could they end it so abruptly? Just when you think that the big final chorus is about to start it ends! It's such a unique song in my opinion and their vocals and lyrics are chefs kiss.

I love this song and think this EP is some of their best work ever. Hwaa is such a vocal flex by Idle and even Soyeon herself said she thought they had all leveled up their singing skills for this comeback.
I've been addicted to their music recently to the point that I bought their album even tho I listened to them for a week
Hwaa is Hann's long lost sister
I really recommend having an Album Listening Party for this EP. PLEASE
The fact that you got the entire message of the song and ep on ur first listen is just insane
Idk whether im more impressed by ur analysis skills or soyeons ability to express things through her music
You really need to listen to the ep, it's their best yet
initially i was very shocked with how suddenly it ended and i couldn't understand why it is like that. but after listening to it again, i actually think the ending fits well with the song. it's one of my favorite songs of theirs now, i really like it, and i would definitely recommend checking out the album, all the songs are great!
i hadn't realized what you pointed out about the outfits and the use of red in the mv even though i watched it so many times lol
thanks for the reaction pd!!
i hope you react to the whole album they really release lots of good songs in their comeback specially lost ❤️
You should definitely check out the I Burn ep! It´s really good and this time 3 of the members produced and wrote songs (Soyeon, Minnie and Yuqi)
Its always "First" but can it be "PD udoing okay? We hope ur okay." :((
Yeah :((
This has absolutely given me a new understanding and appreciation for a song I already liked a lot ! Thank you PD, we're really glad to have you back
I’d been waiting for your reaction to Hwaa so long but its totally worth the wait!! Thank you for your detailed comments on the song!
Did cube send you a script or something? How did you know everything with so much understanding? You're a genius. It's like you made the mv yourself.
When I first heard it, the first thought I had was that "Imagine what theyre going to do when they perform this on stage.. that ending is very easy to extend into an epic dance sequence or just something BIGGER"
talking about the album, I loved all of the girls stuff previously but I have to say this is my favorite album. Its hard to pick a favorite song from this album.
yuqi's voice is so full its so addictive.
YEEEESSS I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
Loving the new videos! Shout out to the lighting and the new background, they are really beautiful, like our awesome PD!
Soyeon did say that Hann (Alone) -> Hann (Alone in Winter) -> Hwaa is the correct way to know the story
I’ve been searching for this multiple times when it doesn't even exist :>
The visual quality of this video made me appreciate again the visual quality of HWAA! So, thank you for that =D
What I notice when soyeon made a song it's actually meaningful and POETIC even the summer song dumdi dumdi lol and yes she has that style of her that people instantly know the song is by her.
I like your interpretation of the song and music video, and i just notice when you said 3 different parts of chorus represent winter, flower bloom and fire (could be rebirth like you said)
I've been waiting for this omg😭
Soyeon is one of the most talented producers/rappers/singers/artists in the whole industry. I can't wait for her to go solo.
yeah I really want a mixtape from her
have you seen her solo stuff already?
@@judithkim4050 She actually has a solo before debut, Jelly and Idle song, Idle song is the teaser about the upcoming group (G)I-DLE.
@@shawnclifford yes I have seen those and all her unpretty rapstar tracks I love her so much
One part of the MV that I really like is as Shuhua says her last "bureul jipyeora", her confident/determined AF face becomes more visible, as if a fire was just lit.
Soyeon said her self that just like Hann(alone) and hwaa(flower, fire) the song was inspired by Shuhua (my bias) because of her pure beauty
The first part they're using HWAA (as in fire) but the final part they're using HWAA (as in flower) I like the word play that Soyeon did!
HWAA is a Masterpiece
Yess hann(alone) is connected to hann(alone in winter) which is the intro to their I burn album which then connects to hwaa and love the way they made the connection!! I burn is such a cohesive amazing album with beautiful songs!! Also thr mv for hwaa really represents the storyline so well as well as complimenting the amazing music❤
Waaaah my smile as soon as I see this reaction finally happening
Pd thanks for this review ❤️ It was nice to have you back, hope you're doing fine luvlots 💕💕
Since I'm already here, I can't really leave without saying how much I enjoy and love your work, always the highest quality. One can feel all the hard work and love you put into this. I'm also very happy to know you're getting better each day, please stay healthy. Thank you very much.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU TO DO THIS VIDEO FOR SOOOOO LONGGGG!!! WELCOME BACK!! WE MISS YOU!!!
im not even a big fan of the cb mainly bc of the line distribution but i love to see pds explanations, reactions and interpretations so much
Soyeon said in a vlive that she likes songs that end abprubtly cause they're impactful. The way Hwaa ends leaves me wanting more, but not because the song isn't good enough, it actually makes me wanna listen to it more and more.
10:47 speaking of old asian themes, soyeon said that in the lyrics she used old korean words and even the way they pronounce them is different
12:06 what you said here is interesting, because in one of I BURN besides called "MOON" (co-composed byt Minnie and written by Soyeon), the chorus says: "turn off the moonlight, please don't let it shine, so that till the morning comes, nobody can see me, please hide me".
This is by far my favorite album from them
you should absolutely do a full ep listening party! i burn easily became one of my favorite kpop albums - with 3/6 members composing this time around, i was absolutely floored with how amazing the songs sounded!
The teal and orange aeshestic is SUCH A VIBE
La reaccion que esperabamos!!! / The reaction we all were waiting for!!!
Please check out their full album it's awesome. Yuqi and Minnie also produced songs for the album "I burn"
I wish you react to the album as well. Genuinely impressive and super cohesive
Hwaa grew on me after I got used to how short and minimal it is. Very beautiful work from idle
I've been waiting for this omg thank u for the reaction vid and I'm so happy that you're back already, PD. Please do take care of yourself and stay safe always!
HWAA IS ICONIC AND IT WILL ALWAYS BE! The visuals are on point, the vocals are showcased well (give shuhua more lines plz) and the dance is so good!!!
Welcome back Pd! We're glad you're back too!
I don’t want to sound demanding but please react to their EP! The bsides are so good and it’s probably idle’s best release so far
Love the new editing you have done =) So glad to have you back and hope you are taking care of yourself, PD.
we’ve been waiting for this one!
wow nice background!! it looks so good!^^
I think you are the most professional reactor on UA-cam
Great sound quality, great video quality, great production overall, and most importantly great presentation.
You look professional, sound professional and you are professional 💙.
Love g idle content 💙.
I'm a new subscriber but I already love you lol.
i love your set !!! the plants are so pretty
The new production quality is awesome!! Can't wait for more great videos
I like this new way of looking at MVs! You spread the music vid out so that people don't leave halfway (for me it's always more eye-catching when the MV you're talking about pops up, and then it gets a bit dry when it's just the analysis, so it's good that now they're integrated together), and it makes the analysis easier to follow!
definitely one of my favorite g idle title tracks
The symbolism of : fire, flowers, the tree and the birds nest, has been also used in "Oh my God" BUT the japanese music video, which imo was a little teaser for "Hwaa" and is something definitely worth checking out, especially since it didn't get a huge promotion and for many people( just like me) might've gone under the radar.
this setup is so beautiful!!! PD’s editing, sound, coloring always on POINTTT
I totally agree. How could they end it so abruptly? Just when you think that the big final chorus is about to start it ends! It's such a unique song in my opinion and their vocals and lyrics are chefs kiss.
